Torch ingame, complete with some new particle effects I added to accompany it and the gaslight.

I'm having the regular issues with black models everyone else seems to be having, and I wrote the entry into the material file...I wonder what causes it.

Open up the ase file and you'll see the problem. ;)

The texture paths are this.

"C:\3dsmax7\Images\LowTorch1NormalsMap.tga"

That will do it. :) Has it been converted to .lwo yet? You'll need to go into the .ase file and manually change the texture path.

I'm wondering if some of the models that were converted from ase to lwo were converted with the incorrect texture paths?

The path should look something like this:

*BITMAP "//darkmod/models/props/furniture/shelfs/bookshelf1"

With the correct path of course.

no, it depends on what kind of torch it is. this torch is definitely not a simple wooden torch, like the ones in T3. it looks more like the T2 torches or that:

Buzt then it doesn't make sense for it to have a wooden handle. Either the torch is for a drab environments, then it would be just a wooden stick. Or it would be for mansion settings, which means that the handle would be metal or something and tha actual torch is only put in it. The upper part of this particular model arelad shows that it is not a simple torch, so it would have to be all the way through non-wood. Depending on where it should be used.

The normal map was laid out with a wooden handle and a metal top. I kinda imagined this as being a pagan torch, so it doesn't burn wood (would be a waste!) but instead has a metal basin sorta thing, for endless relighting. It's not entirely metal, however, since that would be too expensive and heavy. So, wooden handle, metal everything else.

Whats the point of having a wooden handle and a metal top? If I stick a torch through a metal top what purpose does the metal have? To mount it on a wall. If it is to be carrying around then why would it need the metal top AND a wooden handle if the torch already can be held by itself?

Torches rarely burn actual wood. The flame comes from wood-soaked pitch and fabric wrapped around the top in simple torches, or from a basin of oil or some other consumable in more expensive ones. But the handles of torches are never meant to burn down (ouch), and they wouldn't unless the entire thing was soaked in some kind of accelerant.

The handle's main job is to keep the flame away from your hand. Metal tops like the one in the model were common. Keeps the oil from spilling out and gives the flame some protection against wind. Oil torches were more likely to be mounted than carried, however.

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!
