Hello everyone,

 

I searched around at wikipedia to find an english Dark Mod article and sadly couldn't find one. o.O All I got was this: http://en.wikipedia....ki/The_Dark_Mod

 

So it was deleted because it wasn't significant in 2007. Oh, come on... Maybe try again nowadays?

Sadly my english isn't that good to write a well elaborated article, but maybe it is something someone else want to get his/her hands on?

It seems like a translatin of what is written on the Dark Mod wiki, but I didn't checked that

 

Half the time those idiot's make up stuff to suite their own agenda.

 

What is the purpose of the Dark Mod wiki than ;)

The German article is pretty large. And it didnt got deleted. If it dont gets deletet on the German Wikipedia which is very restrictive, it wont get deleted on the english one too. You just need someone to write it + some external sources like Pc Mags or so which write about it (to prove relevance).

Sure, you can name it like you want. ;)

It's a form of marketing and thats enough for the mod, significationrules or how they wanna call it put aside. I also hate those rules, when I see articles like this one: "pile of sand". One sentence translated for example: "The critical angle of repose is at 28°-34°. It depends on particle size and clamminess of the sand."

Oh boy... so this is more relevant than a mod?

There are no rational underpinnings to the whole Exterminate! Exterminate! Exterminate! faction on WP. OTOH, they are tenacious and well-organised. However, TDM can probably pass their criteria on the basis of having been mentioned in significant offline sources (yeah, funny how that connection works). And we can link to the coverage new versions get. But it needs people to write the article, and then defend it against a few of these weaselly assaults that inevitably crop up. Not easy, and I won't be doing it.

BD, do you mean autotranslate as in Google Translate? I don't think that this is a good idea, as GT (and other translation software) only produces loads of garbage. Of course, one could put up an unpolished translation that is then edited by a skillful writer like Niels Bohr...

I bet the English language one considers itself a kind of "last best hope for mankind" central hub for world knowledge that you have lots of self-appointed mandate-police that want to preserve its heavenly mandate lest the world fall into ignorance & anarchy or something. And the Germans probably just thought our article was a nice way to feature a popular & successful mod lol. Sometimes it's nice for your language not to be expected to speak on behalf of all time & space sometimes. (Don't tell this to the Hegelians though.)

No, the article was just released in 2010 at first, when more people knew it and it was showing progress. The german wikipedia and also the sports association hates e-sports for example.

A thing around this I always wanted to ask the native english speaking people:

Don't you see the crude usage of your language in the internet as a lingual rape? I would cry if I would see half of the world, using my beloved language with soooo many horrible mistakes. And most of the times these people think they could even compete with a native speaker. Which they can't in fact.

Well, if you have a look at purely American forums, you'll quickly notice that the overall level of language usage is as low as in German forums (especially if you look at the Redneck breed). Native speakers rape their own language as efficiently as foreign speakers, I'm afraid.

To be honest, I find many foreign speakers are more proficient at English than native speakers. I suppose it may have something to do with the way the language is learned, and/or lack of colloquialisms replacing "proper" words at many levels of society.

I absolutely dislike people using slang and internet haxor spech too much, especially if said people are actually non-native speakers and do it wrong most of the time. That's what I always liked so much about ttlg and this forum: A high standard for communication.

Me? I get too distressed because of language mistakes as long as the idea and message are conveyed in a satisfactory manner.

 

wat i don't like is it when u never use capital letters and replace you with a 'u' or similarily write poorly like leave no periods in thier sentences on purpose my eyes tend to just skip such posts while they seek something properly written

(Unfortunately, the latest 4 edits where done by editors who don't get their articles "marked" automatically, which means the latest "marked" or "reviewed) edition is visible to the public, only. Which is still about v1.07. My edits are automatically marked as good (don't ask my why), but now my edit is waiting "in line" behind these other four edits. I have no idea who can actually view and mark Wikipedia edits to resolve this. It's a mess over there :-/

Or it was just that the article was aded by a "senior" member of Wikipedia and was f.i. automatially marked as "reviewed" (don't ask my how or why my account aquired that right), and mabye also because it was flying under the radar.

 

The German Wikipedia also has a nice article about Thief and the Stealth genre, TDM was mentioned on this and all I did basically was spinning it into its own article. So that might be another reason (but sometimes articles get folded back in for no reason).

@Tels: With 150 edits your edits get reviewed automatically if the last version was already reviewed. Edits by IPs or editors with less edits have to get reviewed first manually. You can manually review those edits too with 200+ edits. There is button for that in the article or the version history history.

I see the button, but it's grayed out. So I'm probably having more than 150, but less than 200 edits. Thanx for the explanation ;) (I generally do no longer participate in Wikipedia, so it's unlikely that I will gain these edits).

      The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.

      Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

      i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
      tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

      Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh?
