Does anybody else have this problem? In the (European) evenings the forum is unbearable slow. The server is delivering about 8Kbyte/s, sometimes less and usually stops midwhere during loading the page. Sometimes you can't even get the index page, sometimes you can log in, but then only get half of the overview etc.

In the mornings everything is snappy.

i did a trace route in the morning and in the evening and got the same speed which is 41ms. so am guessing its traffic on the server, less people in the morning, either gone to work, school, didn't get up because of the cold weather, time difference. More people in the evening as that seems to be the time when most people are on. morning and evening relate to european time.

It might be traffic, but it likely something else, either a routing problem or a misconfiguration on the server.

Morning: Ping 145 ms for me

Evening: Ping does not return for me, ping 400ms from south africa for Serpentine (at the same time!)

Yesterday I used an external tool, and it returned 100 packet lost from all worldwide locations. Even in the morning, this one:

http://www.just-ping.com/index.php?vh=forums.thedarkmod.com&c=&s=ping!

Had packet loss between 50% and 100%.

Serpentine mused it might be a IPv6 misconfiguration somewhere (but unlikely on the client, or it occurs on all clients at the same time).

Modetwo, didn't you say you changed the DNS on the server lately? Did you change anything else?

Tes, I'm happy to see you report this problem. I already suspected someone having hacked my router, or a virus on my computer, or whatever internal problem, because no-one else seemed to have this computer. Now that I think about it, it might have something to do with the ISP. Mine is T-Online. I don't know anything about ping'ing websites (I'm on Windows 7 64).

My Eigenvalue is bigger than your Eigenvalue.

Yesterday morning I wanted to post the traceroute, but then the forum did no longer respond, again.

It seems to be some routing problem between German Telekom (I'm using Congster, which is their "cheap" rate) and Level 3:

Guess we need to file a complaint with either one - but reading some threads on the internet, I don't think this will lead to anywhere.

Another possibility is an agressive filtering on the forum server - I have the habit of opening multiple threads to read them later, maybe that blocks then the IP for a certain time. But it looks more likely it is routing, as 7upman is on Telekom, too.

Has anyone had any luck with textures from Polyhaven? Their OpenEXR normal maps seem too washed out and give incorrect shading in the engine.

I tried to upscale the TDM logo video. First try:

briefing_video.mp4 You can test it ingame by making a copy of the core tdm_gui.mtr and place it in your-tdm-root/materials/ , then edit line 249 of that file into the location where you placed the new briefing.mp4 file.
What I did was I extracted all the image files, then used Upscayl to upscale the images using General photo (Real-Esrgan) upscale setting and then turn it back into a video.
I might have to crop it a bit, the logo looks smaller on screen (or maybe it's actually better this way?). My video editor turned it into a 16:9 video, which I think overal looks better than 1:1 video of original.

Finally got round to publishing a tutorial on baking normal maps in Blender, since most of the ones we have are inaccessible or years out of date.

The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.
