DMAP again before you load your map. And if everything is still black, make sure you have lights.

 

Your error message means there was an entity out in the void, not enclosed by your brushes. Maybe a func_static that's in your map but whose origin is out there. Try selecting func_static6 from the entity list in DR (J) then switching to vertex mode (V) to see where the origin is and to move it.

Thanks, I think that did it - I have no idea how all the lights vanished... There are four of them blasting out but no show in the game... Think something's screwey here.

 

It's happened to me as well that the map loaded in with a black screen and unable to move - as in, no footstep sounds. That was solved by going to the maps folder and deleting everything but the .map and .darkradiant files to give the compiler a fresh start.

First a "leaf" means a room bound by brush walls and portals. (The tree is the whole map. Leafs are linked by portals to make the branches.) A leaf can leak to another leaf the same way you can leak to the void, by any gap without a portal. I'm guessing leaks and flooding are related. Messy brushwork, splinters, gaps, overlaps, and weird angles can also open unintended leaks by I guess rounding errors.

 

You know a leaf has a leak when a portal doesn't work, i.e., doesn't show up when you type "r_showPortals 1" in the console or it never closes when it should.

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

      tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

      Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

      I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
      Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.
