Komag Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 I went ahead and took the liberty of adding The Dark Mod to the Doom 3 mod database at PlanetDoom. I picked a handful of screens and wrote some crappy captions for them. You can see it all here: http://planetdoom.gamespy.com/View.php?vie...etail&id=66 Quote
BEAR Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 Cool, no reason not to spread the info around as much as possible. One thought, do we actually have a story for a character of TDM? That is probably a stupid question that would best be answered by looking around, but I'm feeling lazy(er). I'm fairly familiar with the universe that things are set in, but the character itself is, I imagine, totally up to the FM authors, is it not? I just wondered because I don't really see why every FM would have to involve a master thief in the city. Being in the same universe is fine, but I can imagine being able to think up all kinds of scenarios that would fit with the universe that might not involve a master thief. Quote

That's why the main character is intentionally left vague. Tels Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 Exactly. That's why the main character is intentionally left vague. Maybe we can also add TD as a download? I'd also fix the first "We will be creating new and improved AI..." with "we have..." because it is well underway already Otherwise readers might get the impression we just started last week (they won't read until the end anyway Quote "The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Komag Posted September 24, 2008 Author Report Posted September 24, 2008 It only allows up to 25 MB files (IIRC), so no directly Thief's Den. Yeah, maybe I'll reword the intro a bit like you say Quote
ZylonBane Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 (edited) Exactly. That's why the main character is intentionally left vague. He'll always be Gareth to me. Edited September 24, 2008 by ZylonBane Quote
Komag Posted September 24, 2008 Author Report Posted September 24, 2008 It now starts out: "The Dark Mod is primarily a toolkit. We are almost finished creating a complete conversion of the Doom 3 engine, turning it into a stealth-based gaming platform. We have created new and improved AI, ..." Quote
BEAR Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 What I meant was this text: In The Dark Mod missions, you will play a master thief living in a dark, sprawling city. A blend of gothic architecture and steampunk technology, I don't know if it needs changing, just so long as that is just a line to give newcomers an idea of what kind of missions they will see, and not a guideline for me (or anyone else). HappyCheeze Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 I think the master thief thing makes sense. I mean, our play character is dressed like one, you can see it on the arms the dark leather. So unless people skin it to look different, its pretty much gonna be a master thief. Quote My games | Public Service Announcement: TDM is not set in the Thief universe. The city in which it takes place is not the City from Thief. The player character is not called Garrett. Springheel Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 I think the master thief thing makes sense. I mean, our play character is dressed like one, you can see it on the arms the dark leather. The fact that he's wearing bracers doesn't make him a master thief. He could be a professional spy, an assassin, a novice trying to look the part, etc. Quote TDM Missions: A Score to Settle * A Reputation to Uphold * A New Job * A Matter of Hours Video Series: Springheel's Modules * Speedbuild Challenge * New Mappers Workshop * Building Traps

Schatten Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 He'll always be Gareth to me.I've pretty much settled on "Jorge", since he's a bit of a placeholder (there to be filled with character by the FM authors, not a placeholder in the actual sense). Plus I like the name, and the Name of the Rose character. Quote
ZylonBane Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 Or he could be that other, much more famous master thief, Jorin. Quote
Komag Posted September 25, 2008 Author Report Posted September 25, 2008 although if a lot of guards know Jorin by name maybe he's just a bumbling idiot thief who never learns his lesson and keeps coming back only to get caught AGAIN! Quote
