Btw, turn off rendering while on at spot and see fps gain. If there isn't much gain, then what AMD issue on Earth are you talking about.

Erm... what, if anything, does "turn off rendering" mean?

The issue is that AMD's latest most powerful card gives significantly lower fps in TDM than older nvidia cards, in the same machine. AMD have agreed there's a problem and have promised to try to fix it in the next driver release. Biker is gathering evidence to help that process and give feedback.

Exactly, I'm not sure where the confusion lies here since AMD have already confirmed that it is an issue.

Ok, I see what you mean. But we've already got past that point in testing. Whatever your particular card does, we're seeing drops from 60fps (older nvidia) to 35 fps (newest AMD) in the same spot and on the same machine. AMD have installed TDM on their test machines and reproduced the result. So it's not a CPU problem.

A 4-7Fps increase looks like a general driver improvement only, the equivelent nVidia card (GTX660) would be flat out @60fps at your highest setting. I have emailed my contact to see what version the driver team will include The Darkmod fix in.

It is actually a decrease (47 =>43), but at much higher settings. So this test result is useless, one would need to see the difference at the same resolution and AA setting to see what the difference is.

He did, with the previous driver 40, latest driver 47.

Exactly, but there's a lot of FPS variance.

Try renaming TheDarkMod.exe to darkathena.exe and see if performance improves.

47/48 -> 54 (1680x1050 - NO AA)

reading the FPS via com_showFPS (do not use FRAPS)

      Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

      i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
      tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

      Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

      Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!
