  1. I think the game clock runs independently of how fast your PC is producing frames. If you run the game at 20fps, the game clock advances by 3 frames even though you've only seen one frame in that time. The shortest possible waiting duration is 1/60 of a frame, so 0.0167s. As Obsttorte pointed out once, if you use wait commands the engine checks every frame whether a greater or equal amount of time has passed. So if you specify 0.0200s, the engine will wait 2 frames, 0.0333s.

  2. This would have been an upgraded version, not a clean install. And I likely used the stand alone upgrade, rather than using the updater. I tried deleting the GLprogs folder and ran the updater, and was told I needed to download 1.6GB, which is more than my bandwidth can handle at the moment. I do however have all the installation files tucked away exactly for moments like this, so I'll try a clean install momentarily. And as an aside, this reminded me of a problem I had with Doom 3 RoE that was solved by disabling AA. Thinking this might be an engine problem, I tried disabling AA on TDM, but that did nothing. Update: A clean install seems to have solved the problem. Doesn't really narrow down what the problem was, but at least there is a solution.

  3. From their website: So, that sounds to me like you accept cookies, when you're using their extension, which is why it is so important to also delete cookies and block trackers.

  4. https://betanews.com/2020/10/06/disable-bing-windows-10-start-menu/ Much like with any self-respecting rapist, these big corporations do not take "NO" for an answer. You WILL have Bing integrated into your start menu. We WILL collect any text strings you type in there. If you take steps to stop this behavior, then we will change the way the system works internally via updates so that your registry tweaks (which only exist to placate our large business customers) no longer disable said functionality.

  5. I'd like to give a thumbs-up for @STiFU's recommendation of "I don't care about cookies" (https://www.i-dont-care-about-cookies.eu/) It comes in both extension form and as a filter list for an existing adblocker. Whichever one you use, it hides every single "accept cookie" popup and banner notice I've seen, and I've tried it on many sites that I know have the message and it stops every single one. It should be noted that this is all it does - hides the cookie message. It doesn't silently click the "accept" message these things usually have since, as the site states, most of these sites use cookies regardless of your option and the notice is mostly just for notification (and adhering to EU regulations of course). It's a nuisance reduction tool - if you want more control over cookies you need to look elsewhere.

  6. This is a fun idea. Wish I'd played thievery back when it was fresh Implementing thief-like AI behavior would be the toughest problem. As mentioned above, they don't really have a sense of "hiding", but you could probably be clever with patrols and scripted events to make them feel like garrett wannabes. Some custom items or mechanics for guards would be fun. For instance a whistle that alerts other guards to your location or maybe a potion that briefly gives you night vision. If you could really sell playing as a guard and get some convincing AI thieves- that would definitely be cool to see!

  7. ABZU is on Epic Store. It's a relaxing diving game. As a scubadiver myself, I found it quite nice, but generally, it's not too engaging. When you're feeling down, sick or hung-over, this game is definitely a nice change of pace.

  8. The current plan is to start 2.09 beta in December 2020. Keep in mind that we planned to start 2.08 beta in December 2019 too

  9. I guess he meant that both players are thiefs, hence he called it coop On of the old Splinter Cell games had coop missions. Played them with a friend who never played Splinter Cell before - very funny.

  10. Firefox has a reader view option for a lot of pages, I've found it gets rid of the "accept cookie" popups & nearly all the ads The display is a bit basic but it's good enough for what I want You can also prepend "about:reader?url=" to url's, you may need to encode the URL like PHPs urlencode though Just tried appending it to the URL for the forum & it works, the page doesn't look like a forum any more

  12. Dragging these companies through the mud in the press with bad PR is the best way for consumers to fight back. Sometimes it even works! https://www.askwoody.com/2020/microsoft-backtracks-on-office-search-changes/ https://www.theverge.com/2018/9/12/17850146/microsoft-windows-10-chrome-firefox-warning Additionally, they haven't a shred of respect for consumers, so we have the duty to treat them just the same. https://www.theverge.com/2018/9/12/17850146/microsoft-windows-10-chrome-firefox-warning https://www.askwoody.com/2020/still-using-firefox-microsoft-edge-is-here-or-is-it/ I already converted mom to Linux. No, it's not a religious thing, I just don't feel like letting corporations fuck me sideways, and worse, being expected to personally help them do it! Things of a religious nature tend to be unproven scientifically. Nobody can say for sure whether a god exists and is watching over us. We can, however, say for sure that these companies are just out to lie, cheat, and screw us over in as many ways as they can for another five cents, as the evidence is all around us.

  13. Maybe I'm naive but I always associate Linux with WINE and virtual machines. If someone "switches" to Linux as their grand-daddy OS, that doesn't mean they are giving up Windows, it just means they can shove Windows into the corner and use it how and when they want, in a confined environment. After all, this is how Microsoft have been treating us, so why not us treat Windows the same way.

  14. https://www.computerworld.com/article/3519872/win10-search-blackout-due-to-fiber-provider-glitch-pull-the-other-one-microsoft.html Welcome to "software as a service"! Through the magic of an Internet connection and compulsory updates (take it or... take it), your computer is now someone else's play thing. Some (like me) liken this to being put on a leash. Next on the agenda is making you pay monthly to use your personal machine, and rigging it so that whenever the network is unusable for any not inconsiderable length of time, so is your PC! "Sorry, couldn't sign you in, come back later." They already tried to cram this type of policy up the ass of gamers once before, and it did not go down well. https://kotaku.com/xbox-one-needs-to-connect-to-the-internet-every-24-hour-511751949 Anyway, looking around the Internet, you can see that average Joes are starting to grow wrestless. Not that they'll do anything about it mind you (i.e. switch to Linux), because playing AAA video games is the only thing that matters in this world!

  15. https://www.theregister.co.uk/2020/01/22/office_365_bing/ Here's a novel idea. The computer stays the way that I configured it. No company arbitrarily adjusts the settings to prefer their products right under the end user's nose. These companies know as well as I do that millions of grannies won't notice what they did, the rest won't know how to change it back the way that it was.
