I don't see how the texture could be so easily applied though...what does it do for the other side?

The texture is planar projected or mirrored across both sides. It would look really bad if you used it as is.

...Aaand some of the meshes looked a bit borked with closer look. Sticking that into ase exporter to get it into game would probably result in imaginative array error messages.
