  1. Ghost if possible. If getting detected, avoid, then blackjack while they're searching. Killing only as an absolute last resort.
  2. Finished it just now, in about 2.5 hours. Glad I decided to spend the night playing TDM, had a lot of fun! I didn't bother to check every nook and cranny of the mansion for loot: just did what a real thief would've done: complete the main objectives, get enough loot to make it a good haul, and call it a day. Didn't bother checking a lot of the rooms I felt didn't need checking. I did go out of my way for the Blue Room, though, since I figured there might be some highly valuable items in there. Overall very fun. Blackjacked 3 people in total, which is very low for my playing. Great job, looking forward to WS2 and WS3!
  3. Something like this, but in the form of anonimized mapper feedback would be helpful too.
  4. Yeah, different manufacturer media. I cannot install a different OS because I can't boot from CD. Maybe USB will work, but the problem is at the BIOS level. So I asked someone else, and he said it was maybe the drive letter that mucked things up. I then changed the drive letter of the new partition, but that didn't work. However, I found out about Acer's standard built-in recovery methods. Alt+F10 on boot will give you a screen. However, it complains about the D: drive not being there or something, so there certainly is an issue. Right now I'm trying to restore the partitioning as it was before I changed it and see if it helps.
  5. Actually, deleting upper/lower filters is what I did last time. The problem is, I can't even boot from CD, because the drive immediately spits out the disc, even right after turning the computer on. It does have a drive letter, and Windows says the drive is functioning properly.
  6. So I'm working on an Acer Aspire 1690 laptop, running Windows XP. I'm trying to get Win7 on it. Before repartitioning the HDD, the dvd drive (Matshita UJ-345D) worked fine (after I got it working by disabling a bunch of services). However, after resizing the OS partition and re-allocating the gained space to a new partition, the dvd drive has stopped working: it takes in a DVD/CD, then tries to read it (making this "nuh-uh" noise, quite funny) and immediately spits it out. This happens even right after turning on the computer (so while it's still booting). I already tried: * Updating drivers * Removing and reinstalling the device * Using different cds/dvds * Cleaning the drive with a cloth and a credit card * Taking the laptop apart, giving the drive an extra good clean and putting it back together. Another thing of note: at first the drive wouldn't work either, but that was fixed by deleting upper/lower filters in the registry. After that it worked fine. However, now it doesn't after repartitioning the HDD. As far as I know, I can't boot from USB on this laptop, so installing Win7 that way is not going to work, probably.
  7. I agree. Being colourblind also doesn't help, so I just use tdm_show_loot if I think it's starting to get boring.
  8. I like it. I'm a sucker for good puzzle games and this mechanic is certainly interesting.
  9. Siege Shop sounds really like your cup of tea, Matoro.
  10. I'm pointing out that the tone of the discussion isn't very productive, so we might see some productive discussion rather than whatever this is. Making an effort (however minor) to improve it. I'd say it helps more than saying nothing.
  11. These kinds of statements have no place in any discussion. You're just insulting IHR, not contributing anything of value, except maybe a cheap laugh for the audience. If you don't want to debate with him, then shut up and move on. Being a dickweed helps nobody.
  12. Different strokes for different folks, I'd say.
  13. What do you mean, besiege? We're going to infiltrate it as a sneaky thief.
  14. Well, the thing with running and creeping is that you can also do it sideways. Best way might just be to set up something like autohotkey. I think it's curious how long the loading times of the maps initially are. No idea what causes it. Maybe the entire mission needs to be unpacked? It's just once, though. So if I'm playing, I just make sure to play for a long while. No idea about alt-tabbing.
  15. There is a pile of hay that does this in Lords and Legacy. Kvornig should know.
  16. Is the text in this thread showing up all cursive for anyone else? From Jon's post "LOL" a bit up in the thread.
  17. Open up the console and use TDM_show_loot if you really can't find it and the thread isn't any help. Though people could probably give some hints.
  18. Well, the problem is not so much the idea of controlling doorlocks from a distance. There are secure protocols for that, as well as various Smartcard technologies to keep the keys secure. The problem is that the companies utilizing these things often don't use the right technology or simply implement it badly, allowing for easy entrance. Another thing that contributes is that a lot of the systems they use are proprietary, and as such they haven't been looked at by outside eyes. There's a saying in cryptography: "Anyone can make a cipher they can't break. The hard thing is making a cipher that others can't break", and the same goes for implementing a security protocol. This means that proprietary implementations will be more likely to have security issues. A way to fix any issues in old cars would be to ask a garage to cut the power cord to the receiving antenna. It's probably an easy fix (provided you can locate the antenna) and easily reparable should you want to. However, you'd need to make sure the locks still work when you do that.
