  1. heeey welcome Saturnine! errr... who are you? I think I heard of you somewhere but can't remember now. forgive my ignorance
  2. I prefer none of them. I love pitch black.
  3. if it's not suitable for visportalling, lighting etc, at least it'll be use for a building decal after tons of work.
  4. same here. I thought it was only me, so didn't report it. It's waste of time to open editor again. Apart from that everything is perfect for me.
  5. When Thief 4 will be released, new taffers'll arise. AFAIS, Thief 2 and Darkmod have loyal mappers. I don't think there'll be a big migration from t2 and tdm mapping community to t4. Eventually, t4 has a different engine, dynamics. It's not a simple task to learn everything from the begining in mapping process. That's what happened between tdm and t2, right?
  6. good to hear that Oszkar. At the moment I could see details of mission 2,3 and 4. What are the concept of first and last missions? I want to participate on cave like mission however I need details. Could u send PM to me about scenario? I'll say my final decision according to it.
  7. Big news! frictional games released first official patch for the game about 53 mb that fixes some bugs and update for radeon cards. Besides, it's avaible to download editor. yay!
  8. I decided to merge my old stuff with my failed vertical contest entry. Since, it won't be in limits of vertical contest, it'll be totally a new and bigger mission. I'll edit the wiki.
  9. well actually it was cagelamp instead braizer. I couldn't remember exact word for it. It's ok with brazier. Anyway I reported the issue.
  10. A few minutes ago I installed DR on my new computer to continue working on my mission but had the same issue. Then I checked first page of editor guild to search keywords such as white, Darkradiant then bingo! thanks thebigtaffer and new horizon.
  11. biker I want to call u DRDude from now on. You're simply amazing! -Great patch work, lighting, and enough world detail. However, you need to resize the light in order to fit in braizer. It is good with 1 1 0.75 scale. However it can be problematic with in some cases if you know what I mean. Well, It was on my to do list to resize it on particle editor but I totally forgot it.
  12. @bikerdude just an advice; I don't know the concept, but all those beautiful details are nearly gone becaues of lack of lighting. Most players don't stop for seconds to check out details in dark. I realized that from myself after I started mapping. I don't say increase the ambient light, some areas are great in darkness (especially last shot:wub: ) but some areas needs more lighting if it suits with the concept imho (especially light radius of chandeliers in first shots). your work is stunning as usual
  13. Nice idea fidcal. I want to mention that one of the responsibilities of project manager is defining how rooms are going to merge from the begining. On the building process of my (probably will never be finished) fan mission, my first approach was create seperate rooms, working on them seperately, then finally join them together. However, I was working with patches and joints didn't look smooth at the end. Besides, visportals were not working perfectly. PM should have basic DR knowledge in order to define at least these.
  14. Well, up to now many tdm assets are overused. Still it's possible to make very good missions, hovewer with new assets player will be able to enjoy discovering much more. Since tdm needs new assets, it's a great opportunity to get them with a contest that requies prefabs(easy), particles(easy, needs trial&error), sounds(needs a recoder), models(needs time to learn), textures(needs time to learn). Although I'm totally newbie on modelling, a few weeks ago I made a low poly statue using Sculptris that's going to use one of the tdm stone textures. See? It can be even partially a new asset. I don't know how to import it into darkmod but there is a kind community in here to help and there are tutorials made by arcturus that I haven't check. I think it's better to model something that won't need complex texturing experience. So what do you think? A new contest won't be start soon and if it'll be a long term contest, then there'll be enough time for mappers to learn how-to and create a few new assets for their missions.
  15. oh, I wasn't aware of that. Up to now I was considering my graphics is poor because of not being able to play in HDR.
  16. Althoguh I don't have a low-end system anymore, I know very well how much low-end users can handle in tdm fan missions. While I had a low-end laptop (asus a6vm), I tested many ways in DR to optimize fps on my wip fan mission. I made a detailed room that looks nearly good enough to eye candy with one light, one ambient light, no AI, many entities with no shadows, no visportalling( since it's one room), and fps was about 24. My graphic settings were lowest and resolution was 1280*800. It's the acceptable limit to enjoy. I don't think my low-end was too low, but I can say it was not enough for near perfect looking fan missions. I got good fps on biker's and grayman's summer contest fan missions' first versions. However, as you know there were not enough ai and other things such as some cool looking particles including some fps killer effects. So lack of AI, world detail, and effects prevented them being a masterpiece. I'm not the only one thinking in this way. Check comments in releated topics if you wish. I wasn't serious on making low end version for a mission. Although I haven't released a single fm up to know, I have enough knowledge to get good fps in darkmod missions for low-end users. For instance, I'm building my fan mission according to position of light source in some cases in order to using single light and getting best good looking. And yes I definitely agree with mappers should do their best to optimize their maps for smooth performance.
  17. It'll sound unkind but I think if he has any plan to make it a masterpiece and maybe a tdm showcase, then it'll probably need to sacrifice low-end users. Or maybe he'll make two versions of it for this purpose. I can hear "no way!"
  18. biker to be honest I didn't like your previous shots from cathedral. It was too clean and textures were not in harmony, but now I really loved it! I hope this mission will be the best tdm fm so far, because it has very high potential. Besides, imo it has already beat thief 3' s cathedral in architectural comparison. Keep up the great work
  19. so is there an editor with the release? edit: found my answer from frictional games forum
  20. @aida err... thanks? I'm having difficulties to understand you as usual. @rich_is_bored I used your script (turned it into .ase) and it looks fine! thanks.
