I was going to say it looks processing - heavy for a game, but then they had some (apparently) interactive bits. It would be nice to see this in some future sim game.

it says on toms hardware site that its running real time on a single GTX580 card.

Now if we could get our water looking like this, it would be out of this world :-)

  1. Nice pic on darkfate. This is the article that Kotaku references: http://www.polygon.com/2013/4/26/4269912/thief-reboot-impeded-by-office-politics-high-level-departures "Cinemax-level sex scenes"? HOW EDGY! Anyway, I wouldn't pay much attention to these rumors. Let them do what they're going to do.
  2. I've tried to use broadheads on the zombies in the past, a bad habit from Thief. In Thief I think they did a little more damage if they were stealth shots.
  3. Uh, I guarantee it exists. I think Springheel has a copy: http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/10832-main-picture-rights/
  4. Hey someTaff I really like the fog skybox in your 08 April 2013 - 04:11 AM shot. Is it set on a mountain? Add: I see you posted about it here: http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/11435-skybox-creation/page__view__findpost__p__300295
  5. I don't know how popular Desura (ModDB distribution platform) is, but it could be useful as another mirror for a standalone TDM +/- campaign package. If we go standalone we should be able to get the news on the ModDB front page.
  6. You can also buy coder time with Kickbucks, like VLC did in December.
  7. A pity. Rather, isn't likely feasible of OLDos. Let's stonewall.

Bikerdude: Yes we have! There have actually been two mine missions (if we don't count The Rift, which also has a mine segment).

I can think of The Rift and SATC by Gman. What's the other one?

  8. 3-2-6 If I set off a ton of alerts I generally find it harder to get away than Thief I/II, so I'll just reload and try to ghost better. But I don't have a problem with being seen if I can recover from it and it makes for an exciting chase. I'd also rather have fun making mistakes while trying to ghost than try to "iron man" the mission. In the past I've liked to knock out every guard, but more recently I tend to ghost if possible.
  9. It's the age-old clash between variable and fixed-width .html layouts.
  10. T.D.M. = TDM: Doom Missing
  11. When I thought about this, I felt that keeping the name could be rationalized away since TDM will ultimately continue to be a "modification" of Doom 3, regardless of how widely it diverges (it's already a "total conversion"). Plus the branding is somewhat well known, having appeared in magazines, etc.
  12. How about AI that are an arbitrary distance away from the player proceed to the next node in their patrol/route and pause if the player is out of range. Once the player moves back into range they are activated again and they proceed to the next node. If you set the distance cutoff high enough then the player MIGHT not be able to leave a body lying around, run out of range, and exploit frozen AI. AI patrols are generally not synchronous but if desired several AIs could be linked together into a synchronized group, so the whole group continues to move if one of them is within range. To not affect existing maps you could set every AI to have a default distance cutoff of 9,999,999,999... etc. I admit that the balance between keeping AI responsive and improving performance might not work well in either direction at any point, though having 50-75% of AI in a map active could improve performance. Also, how about LOD AI behavior, where certain checks aren't performed at a distance, such as a missing loot check or a sound check (AI can alert AI, right?). You could draw a series of overlapping circles with the AI at the center to visualize this. </brainstorm>

I bet you're in the pic somewhere. Good luck to whoever wants to model it in DR.

Cool. But I wouldn't want to visportal that.

I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem for our visportal wizard Bikerdude

  13. Seems more difficult plus not all maps are drawn to scale.
  14. Not sure how often this is updated but it should have links to some forum threads: http://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php?title=Upcoming_Fan_Missions
  15. Instead of using that trope, just say that the player cased the joint (if the story allows that much time). Another possibility would be to include a map as an object you can find somewhere in the mission.
