  1. I'm beginning to understand why people who aren't into social clubbing "don't last long" on this project, and why it's so full of holes. When moderators are siding with bullies, by closing down threads that they derail, then I start to wonder if I should support the platform to begin with.

I'm sure that the core development is solid, but when you're constantly tone policed and bullied, and moderators are playing into it too, then the project will just drive away talent, and replace it with socialites instead. ...and without talent, you only end up with a small skeleton crew trying to do everything themselves.

...so Dragofer and Airship Ballet, and all you other socialites, you win. From now on I'll just keep to myself. You'll never be able to do my work, but at least you'll be happy together, and that's what matters to you.

    Update

Actually, I have to revise my statement:
I actually messaged greebo - the top dog, I gather - about nbohr1more's outburst of insanity below, and since I haven't even heard back from him, I just have to assume that there's not a single core programmer here, who's not backing nbohr's threats. ...and that's bad.

...so if you're a newbie reading this, or an honest soul like ZergRush, then just slowly back out of these forums, run, and don't look back. This is nothing more than a cult posing as a game development project, using Thief and IDTech4 to sucker hopefuls in, to do work for them, while trying to cajole them into something going on behind the scenes, which apparently - according to nbohr - is something that should be hidden from the state. These people aren't programmers - they don't even understand things like how to fix the simplest bugs. All they have, is an engine, and an IP, and some sort of fascist social cult. There was some other project I saw being made in the Unreal Engine. Try joining that project. ...or start a project of your own. Anything but this asylum.

Hopefully that was "divisive" enough for a final post, because at this point I really want people to leave this place. This project is, on a management level, just awful garbage, run by garbage people, apparently from the top down, and I'm just glad that they have a garbage place to stay, together, and hopefully forever.

The amount of insults towards the team members and this community contained in Nort's updated status is a pretty strong indicator that something is maybe not right in Nort's head, don't you think? Also, I said "like Nort here maybe has".

Anyway, the core message was that we accept everyone as long as they behave. Let's not get lost in the details.

In general I just find this not the right thing to do, if you don't know the diagnoses, don't say it. If you have a psychological disorder, doesn't mean you would act like Nort, or maybe you do, but it's not clear. People with actual psychological disorders might be offended.

What I also hear often is people call someone "a bit autistic", while we know some characteristics of people with autistic syndrome, it's not like we can judge who is and who is not.

"...so if you're a newbie reading this", please know that we will accept you and value your contributions, as long as you don't talk down on others and don't spread hatred towards other persons or communities.

This is the proper message (I don't ask you to change yours, I just wanted to make my point).

  2. The GL_EXTENSIONS list would come right before "[OpenGLRenderSystem] GLSL shading IS available.".
  3. I see that your Dark Radiant log is actually very different from mine. For example, you don't have a huge list named "GL_EXTENSIONS", which lists all the functions of your graphics card. It's probably because you're on the Linux version, while I'm on Windows. "GL_VERSION: 3.0" shows that you're running version 3.0. I looked that version up on Wikipedia, and it directed me to "OpenGL ES (OpenGL for Embedded Systems), which is designed for embedded systems like smartphones, tablet computers, video game consoles and PDAs.". Maybe I'm wrong, but apparently there can be slight compatibility issues with the regular OpenGL, which I'm sure won't be beyond these devs to address.
  4. I'm not that creative. I figure that you could be able to save in safe areas. Not save rooms, but in areas like the normal streets, where people won't be suspicious of you. Then once you trespass somewhere, you won't get to save, until your little raid is over and you reach the streets again. Another take would make those green occult crystals be stationary through the level, and have them act as "soul stealers". When you die, you die, but your soul will imprint on the next guy foolish enough to touch the crystal, and you live on as possessed. At the end of the mission, you'll get a different ending, depending if you've ever touched one of those crystals or not.
  5. Also, in the Dark Radiant Console tab, the startup actually lists just what level of support your graphics card has. Could you perhaps post the list starting with "GL_VENDOR:" and ending with "[OpenGLRenderSystem] GLSL shading IS available."? I bet that's important for the devs.
  6. I see that GLSL 4.00.9 came out in 2010, 12 years ago. Is that how old your graphics card is? I'm asking because if you have a newer graphics card, and you've updated your drivers recently too, then it's clearly a bug that the devs here will be able to deal with.
  7. I've never programmed how a shader is drawn in my life, but it seems like you're saying that this "screenshot" is sent out of the graphics card, to become an actual texture. Why? Can't you take the output of the first render pass, with one effect, and use it as an input for a second render pass, and so on? ...or, ideally, if you're really savvy, just apply the effects on the first pixel-by-pixel pass. Anything but sending the data out of the graphics card before it's fully rendered - that must take ages.
  8. It can't possibly be intended when you have a panicked civilian screaming for help, while there are no alerts, and the stealth score has reset back to zero. It seems I have to keep experimenting and reporting these occurences in detail, until you guys get it.
  9. I like optional save restrictions very much. It will of course have to be balanced with forgiving level design, though, putting more responsibility on the mapper to think things through. Some mappers are not good at that, and so it's good that they can instead save at will. Also, some players are not good at playing, and so it's good that there are cheats. The only strong stance I have on this, is if the devs would not implement the save restriction feature at all, because I want to use that option very much. Edit I came here from another thread, which was about save rooms. Save rooms shouldn't be necessary. Resident Evil implemented save rooms mainly as a place to sort through your inventory, and store it away. You don't have a massive inventory in the Dark Mod, so entire save rooms aren't needed. Just implement some invisible entity that is a save controller, which would enable and disable saving, and let mappers choose the saving mechanics in his map.
  10. It's not "just that". This user blame game has got to stop. Programs should properly check for inadequate hardware, or whatever, and respond gracefully - not crash.
  11. Does it help if I say that I don't have this issue? I don't usually update my graphics drivers - it's been a year or two. I tried that "clear_warp" texture too, without issues. (I assume that it's supposed to be just a white box. If not, then I've got issues too.) Your material editor is looking a little dark there, but that's probably just some kind of a dark mode skin. Judging by the dialog message, this could very well be a temporary bug in your graphics card (and its drivers). Still, DR should be made to check if GLSL is supported by a card driver before opening the Material Editor, and not just freak out, tableflip and crash to desktop.
  12. All my experiments have been done, quite reliably, from a long distance away, but it did involve a noble woman and an armed wench.
  13. ...and Araneidae, I really like this plugin, so if there's anything specific that I can do to help you, let me know. If you've found some more reliable score script functions that you want me to experiment with, I'm happy to do it. Try look into how the score is determined at the end of the map. Where is that code? I want to take a look at it.
  14. I was busy, didn't think it would matter, and it took me only 30 minutes to change my mind.
  15. 1. Could this adjustment be mentioned in the tutorial map? Is there a sneaking section there? I can't remember. I was thinking that there could be an area at the end, where the tutorial just goes "Here's a friendly thief standing guard to spot students traversing this room. Experiment with the settings to the point where you feel able to traverse the room without the guard seeing or hearing you.". 2. Do you mean writing a wiki tutorial about how to set that up according to difficulty? ( ...because I doubt it's fun to be surprised by just one of the guards suddenly having extra good hearing, especially on the easiest difficulty, so the only good way to use altered acuity, is probably to set it up according to difficulty.)
  16. (I'm on Dark Radiant version 3.0.0, but this is a very old bug, dating back at least a year.) If you select one of the above modes, with no brush selected, and then select a brush, the mode doesn't apply to the selected brush, and the toggle of the mode gets out of synch, so that off is on, and on is off, from then on.
  17. Since this bug also affects the rotation step value, you actually lose the ability to enter such a value completely, and have to rely on direct input, or only rotate in 90 degrees, in order to rotate textures. Hopefully solving this, will also solve the nasty effects I sometimes get when I use "Fit" with certain values, and the texture just becomes some kind of smear.
  18. Mouse Wheel zoom works fine on my end. I think the blue dot is gone for me too. I only vaguely recall it being there. Maybe the "Select Faces" mode is new, and meant to replace that, because then you get dots for all the faces of a brush.
  19. Also, if I select something (like a brush) in the 3D view, the graphical Media texture preview in the Properties view, freezes too. To get it unstuck, it's the same solution as it is with the freezes of the other views: I just click in another view, move the mouse cursor about a little, and then click back in the Properties/Media view and click the texture, and it updates like normal again, until I of course select another brush in the 3D view. This type of freeze is only partial: A thin border at the bottom of the preview, never freezes, and continues to update as normal. It is the rest of the preview which is frozen. (I am using Dark Radiant 3.0.0.)
  20. I've already told you that we're going right to a feudal system, and that's at best. At worst we'll just die. Well, in any case, I hope you do well in your struggle, improving the "social advancements" of a society that I'll never be a part of. Good luck.
  21. I don't know how to model, and so I made a window prefab instead. It's 42 brushes, and 6 entities, per window. I'm going to have lots of windows, so buy new computers. "But Nort, why is it 42 brushes big? Have you handcrafted every brick in it?" Only some of them. "But Nort, didn't that take a stupid amount of time, which you could have spent watching advanced futa porn instead?" It probably took a few hours, yes.
  22. ...and if you're going to adjust the default settings for that, maybe you could also set it so that the default is named the same, because right now hearing and sight is different levels. ...and none of these levels are named "normal", so you just have to remember which level settings is the default.
  23. Iris probably has the best brushwork I've seen thus far, yes. It gets ridiculously ambitious at places - like you want to scream "Calm down! We're astonished already!". It feels a bit cramped, though, but maybe that's intentional.
  24. It's just that I don't have any faith in humanity. I think all ideologies are scams. They are all "fight for this, so that when this thing happens, it will keep you safe", or "improve things" or whatever, but there is no free man today, who wouldn't throw me to the dogs if they were voted into some kind of power. I have yet to find a cause who wasn't about me sacrificing myself and ultimately getting nothing in return. I am a dog, and I'll always be a dog, and nobody will want to have a dog with rights. I spend my days mapping and training, and that's just all that I have time for. In fact I don't train enough, and so I'll probably die once society starts to crumble. I won't be able to eat an ideology. It's all just a bunch of words, man, and the tacked on unspoken footnote will always read "and Nort gets the bullet because f- him". Everyone does best looking out for himself, and not somebody else's remote children.
  25. I guess that's where you're coming from. These things that you're saying, about any grandchildren existing in 40 years from now, and them having the time to piss on your grave just because they can't speak their minds, on an internet that's supposed to still exist... ...that's not the future in my world. In my world, India is going to become the world's biggest baked meatpie, if not in a month from now, then next summer. ...and in October there'll be no Russian gas to keep Europe warm, and then the survivors of this winter, are going to have to deal with the starvation, and the zombies. The internet? Children not being on certain sites on the internet? You not being able to say "the N word" to strangers half-way across the world? I don't understand these concepts. I don't understand their importance. ...but they're obviously important to you, and so I hope that your future will happen, and not mine, where the only ideology is measured in how much I can bench.
