  1. Really incredible outstanding mod, I can't believe you guys are so close to completely creating the Thief experience on a incredible engine. Every FM I've played has felt just like Thief 2 but with superior graphics and decent sound quality. This mod really is the true thief experience for Thief 1 & 2 lovers. Thanks a ton for creating such an outstanding Total Conversion. Heck, I might even try to make me a level. This mod truely does live up to the hype. I have played Thief 1,2 & 3 FM's to this day and am very impressed with what you guys have created. THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!!! keep up the amazing work. I look forward to release because TDM has a permanent spot on my hard drive.
  2. hi there, due to reasons beyond my control I need to restore a backup of my machine from before I put doom and darkmod on, now I've no problem reinstalling doom, but I was wondering can I make a backup of the darkmod folder and pull that back after I've finished all my other stuff and reinstalled Doom3, rather than run the darkmod downloader again as the download takes a really long time ?
  3. Brethren did this interview with one of the LGS guys working on Thief's render engine and what became the Dark Engine and dromed. http://southquarter.com/2009/05/08/intervi...h-sean-barrett/ I thought it was interesting, much of its inspiration came from the (early) Prey and Quake engines and what Carmack was doing. So it's sort of cool to think that Darkmod's using the Doom3 engine is sort of coming full-circle, and inspiration flows in the other direction. You guys might have already heard the story, but it was interesting news to me.
  4. Building a new computer. Was going to go with XP OS as that is what I am use to and happy with it. But a lot of people are suggesting I go with Vista, which then gives you a free upgrade to Win 7 OS. I heard either Vista or Win 7 may have problems playing games ( cant remember which OS) Any input? I will wait to order til I hear from you guys Thanks!! Matt
  5. When I select a new mission to play, the launcher restarts DM. After that restart is complete, my mouse pointer is frozen and the splash screen will stare at me endlessly. I have to ctrl-alt-delete to get Task Manager to kill Doom. After restarting again from tdmlauncher it is fine. It's fairly minor, but thought I'd point it out. What does the launcher do before restarting? Is there a way I can do the task(s) manually to avoid this for now? I'm running on XP service pack 3 with nvidea GeForce 6800. All else is well, just that oddity. The Mod is looking mighty fine! -DS:12
  6. Hello! So, I've installed DM, and loaded it up - when it asks to install the mission, I do so and restart, but after the restart all I can see is the menu icon and nothing else. This happens on both my PCs. Steam install. Vista and Windows 7, both 64 bit. Both machines are AMD/ATI. Any help?
  7. I'd like to hear how people got to know about TDM, just out of interest. I allowed multiple selections, I hope that makes sense.
  8. We have a Frequently Asked Questions article on our wiki, addressing a lot of common problems: http://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php?title=FAQ
  9. I searched before posting, but most of the results were either about the Doom patch or the level editor, so apologies if this has already been asked. "tdm_update.exe" won't work for me. I've been running it as admin, even put it in compatibility mode for Vista (I'm using W7) but it won't work. A DOS-type window pops up, writing flashes and then the window closes. It goes to quickly to read much, but I think I saw "can't find" in there... I'll use the torrent for now, but any help would be lovely. Thanks all!
  10. The Dark Mod team is very happy to announce that we will be releasing a Pre-Beta Demo relatively soon. Members of the team have been quietly working on preparing a Pre-Beta Demo mission for public consumption for some time now. The release date will be Friday, January 18th. Please keep in mind that this date could change if we do not deem the release 'stable'. Several months ago, TTLG's Fidcal began working on a small mission, called The Thief's Den. We found that it was playable as a real mission. We were so pleased with his work, that we asked him to begin readying it as a playable pre-beta demo. We thought we might release it for Christmas, but as things usually go...this wasn't really attainable...as we wanted to release the best demo we possibly could. Details: You will need doom 3 installed to play the demo. The demo includes all the files needed to run this TDM map on your doom 3 installation. This means that the download will be a bit hefty, around 200megs...but that's actually kind of small for a demo these days. It is PRE-BETA, so please don't expect a fully polished game. There is still much to be finished, so enjoy it for what it is. For anyone who cries out....FILE SIZE UNACCEPTABLE!!!! Future Fan Missions will be much smaller when the mod is released, since players will already have the full mod resources installed on their systems. That's all for now. We will update this thread when the Demo is ready for download, or if there are any delays. Oh! Don't forget to REGISTER and VOTE for Dark Mod at the Mod DB website!!! http://www.moddb.com/events/2007-mod-of-th...r-awards/top100 Discuss here.
  11. We weren't planning on any new videos for quite some time, Gleeful decided to have a little fun and treated the team to a video that showcased a new map he has been working on. We decided it was too good to selfishly keep it to ourselves, so we are making it public. Here is Gleeful's original post. Keep in mind, that The Dark Mod is still a long way off from completion, but the tools are still quite usable at this point. Anyone wishing to beta map can drop me a line at recruiting@thedarkmod.com
  12. Hey, I'm setting up the mod, and dark radiant. I try to run darkradiant as the tute says, but it fails to load with an error: "This application failed to start because MSVCR71.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." I tried reinstalling, I tried updating the mod again, but it still doesn't work. Anyone got this dll file? If so, where would I put it, or where can I find it? If you could email it to me, I'd appreciate it. email: neon3003@optusnet.com.au Venus
  13. Hi, The FAQ on the Thief's Den mission mentions that Mac OS X support is not provided at the current time however based on my brief study of what the mission installs, requires and the differences between the Windows and Linux installations, I think it won't take a lot of work. It seems the problem lies in the use of a non-doom 3 file called DevIL. My guess is the team is using this file to provide read / write access to image files. For Windows it's simply a case of copying a DLL file into the install directory. Linux is a bit more complicated but basically involves the installation of two packages (libmng and libdevil1) these then provide (I assume) Linux with the equivalent of a DLL file presumably in the "system" so that calls made by the Dark Mod will work. Since Mac OS X is based on Unix and so is Linux, I thought it might be possible to get DevIL installed on the Mac. The library is open source and platform independent but only exists as source code which needs to be compiled (out of my area of understanding) Thankfully I found a compiled copy along with several other packages (including libmng). The file is available here: http://rapidshare.com/files/149141201/DevIL_Binary.zip.html Despite running the packages it doesn't seem to work though I wonder if any of the developers working on Linux would consider helping me to get this working for the Mac community? Cheers, Matt
  14. I went ahead and took the liberty of adding The Dark Mod to the Doom 3 mod database at PlanetDoom. I picked a handful of screens and wrote some crappy captions for them. You can see it all here: http://planetdoom.gamespy.com/View.php?vie...etail&id=66
  15. This site got me thinking. Since you guys have slaved away at this mod for quite some years now, I was wondering how you could go about making money from the Dark Mod. Obviously you couldn't sell the game, because you don't have the rights to the engine. But is there anything stopping you selling all the 3D models, textures and whatnot you've created? Presumably these would work with any game and engine, and are all of very high quality. Don't know how you'd split the money between you though.
  16. Hello. It has been awhile since we have indulged in a video, so we felt that now would be a good time. Before you watch, there are a few things you need to take into consideration. 1. This was an internal video made by Dram, but we decided to package it up and release it publicly. 2. Everything you see is a Work In Progress. Nothing has been completely tweaked or finalized. 3. You will notice plenty of glitches. (particle effect issues, some footstep sound problems) We’re aware of them. 4. The AI are nowhere near finished. That being said, we wanted to show you how far we’ve come. It has been a very long journey thus far, and we still have a long way to go if we are to make our 1.0 release date of December 2008. Could we use help? Yes. Do we hope this video will inspire those of you with the required skills to help. Yes, we hope it does. Ideally, we could use help from some experienced programmers in getting the AI up to speed sooner than later. We certainly have people with the necessary skills to complete the task, but if we can get it done sooner, then we will have much more time for tweaking. So, I'll shut up now. Here is a lower res version of the video. If anyone can host a higher res version, please le t me know. The high res version is around 50 megs. http://video.google.ca/videoplay?docid=504...90&hl=en-CA Higher Res version. http://bloodgate.com/mirrors/tdm/ http://www.shadowdarkkeep.com/files/TDM_BLACKHEART.zip http://www.thirdfilms.com/random/TDM_BLACKHEART.avi
  17. i have been hearing about dark mod for years now,i am part of the ttlg board,so if i got this right i will just need a doom 3 game cd and the dark mod tools? will that have the fm player built into it? or do i use my excisting dark loader or garrett loader looking forward to playing it also since my comp can play thief 3 i dont think i will have issues using darkmod
  18. Is it possible to run The Dark Mod through a Doom 3 Demo?
  19. Hey guys, I've been editing quite a lot recently and decided that I want my 2-3 part mission to be set with castles mixed with pagan influence. In thief the pagans were hugely influential to the atmosphere with their strange druidic mysteriousness and the way they always gave people the fear of the unknown. What I mean is as in levels such as "the maw" or "trail of blood". Do we have or are going to make pagan assets and models? You know, ape creatures, those little flying fairies, eyeball plants. Or the assortment of creepy creatures such as the trees that attack you, scaring the bejesus out of you? I really liked the weird and creepy aspects of Thief and would like to make a mission inspired by that. So far I am only using Lucia's assets so I'm not sure if we have this stuff yet. What are your thoughts and opinions on it? If you liked the feeling of the battle between nature(pagans) and man(builders/hammers), what parts did you like most? Do you guys think its essential to our thief inspired universe to include these things? I don't know, but to me I would really love to see a return of the monster portions of Thief along with those extremly creepy robots preaching the builder gospel from Thief 2. Nothing scarier in Thief 2 than hearing the those metalic clanks in the darkness, then all of a sudden hearing that charging terminator sound as your about to be annilated. Those wierd elements combined with the steampunk universe was what sucked me in. The weakest parts of TDS was when it just played only as a castle sneaker, what saved that game for me were the pagans and the "cradle". So lets focus alot on the horror aspects guys!

  22. Hello folks, it has been awhile since our first Teaser Trailer, so we thought it was high time for another one. Disclaimer: The second trailer has been somewhat of a cursed production. It was originally slated for a December 24th release, but unfortunately our original film guy had to quit due to real life responsibilities. Thanks to drewb50 for stepping up and doing a fantastic job for us, and a huge thanks to the Dark Mod team. They're a special group and I am truly enjoying the work we have done together on this project. A good majority of the footage is rather out of date since it was recorded back in October. There are no death animations and the maps you are seeing aren't 'real' maps, they're just our tech maps for testing. It's not perfect, but we really needed to put what we had out there and move on to other things. This will still give you an idea of how things can look later down the road, and considering we still have another two years ahead of us, some great things have yet to happen. Expect to see two or three smaller and up to date 'tech' videos in the near future. Also, if someone could help host the hi-res version until I get it uploaded on a hosting site, it would be greatly appreciated. It's currently on some space being loaned to me by veledan and I don't want to take advantage of his good will. Enjoy folks. 23. Imagine my (slight) surprise when I saw this in my email: looks like happycheese managed to get Thief's Den up there finally, better late than never! I rated it a 5 of course, helped raise the average a little bit
