  1. I haven't been around too much recently, but when I do look into the forums every so often, I am always amazed how much progress is being made on the mod. Great work people!

      I never got into BSD, though I've installed it once or twice. This is another reason to check it out.

      The BSD's arn't for everyone, but within their goals, simple code and mailing lists lies a lot of goodness and simplicity. I love the underdogs. Anyhoo work will be Linux friendly too. Portability is a cornerstone for good code.

      (We can leave the thread for journalism corruption, but just on this...) Then the issue in academia is money flowing to the more corruptable fields like science & engineering with the big corporate grants & revolving door with staff. The humanities might not get that, but OTOH they are getting pressured to "justify their existence" financially. I could probably agree it's rife in almost any human field though, as long as there are incentives there will be corruption.

      Or then we have the "uncorruptable" critical academics, but then they're basing their work on Derrida or Marx and are so detached from reality they throw their credibility out the window. It's good to be critically detached, not so good to be derailed from reality. My position in law sometimes is something like a critical realism, but it's practically an orphan position. (You want to protect victims *and* think science works??? Wha...?)

      Who is uncorruptable anyways? I cannot convince even myself that I would be uncorruptable in every situation. And I perceive myself to be situated in the more-reliable-than-50%-of-the-general-population side in the gaussian distribution curve of corruption. Problematic, yes?

  2. For the last 1-2 weeks the forums have been really slow and unresponsive for me, when I type a post half the time it just sits there etc.. is anyone else having the same issues..?
  3. Does anybody else have this problem? In the (European) evenings the forum is unbearable slow. The server is delivering about 8Kbyte/s, sometimes less and usually stops midwhere during loading the page. Sometimes you can't even get the index page, sometimes you can log in, but then only get half of the overview etc. In the mornings everything is snappy.
  4. Working on a map with SirTaf and Im getting a comAAS error that I havent see before - "during compiling AAS "warning: no entities insiude" - WTF does that mean..? Im not entirly sure, but I think there was either a corrupt patch (which I cant see how...), or the map hit a patch amount limit (again on such a small map I cant see how...), but after spending 4hrs narrowing down which patches were causing the dmap freeze/lockup, I made FS out of the problematic patche. After each dmap/map I get the in-game error that says AAS is out of despite deleting the .aas file after each compile etc... arrgghh..
  5. I've upgraded IPB to the latest stable version, and since this was a major upgrade (from 2.3.6) I also had to re-do the forum style. Most of the new stuff is in place, but I bet that the logo will be changed. One of the many new features in version 3 is rating of posts and also a "report spammer" ability which will make it easier to single out spam bots and ban then at sight. Hopefully this will stop some of the spam threads we've seen recently. Make sure to empty your browser cache if you're experiencing any problems. And please report any errors etc in this thread.       I'm using the CD with TG, T2 and T3 on it. Darkloader doesn't like it. I can't get TG FMs to work

  8. hi guys! i hope that anybody can help me out... so here's the base problem: situation: think of a map with one indoor and one outdoor area; the outdoor area contains some big trees. both areas are connected by some kind of hallway, tunnel or whatever. the task i demand help for is about hiding all the trees in the outer area as long as the player is located inside the inner area. this aim refers to having some trees rendered even if the player sneaks through the indoor by default - although they are located in a complete different visportaled and so culled place. for the moment, just believe me that this is not caused by internal leaks but lies in the engine's responsibility. so i'm aiming for hiding the trees as soon as the player reaches the indoor area (forget the LOD-system, as this solution would require some distance) and unhiding them as he gets close to the other place. by default, this can be done by simply triggering the tree-entities (sets "hide" to "1"); another triggering-effect unhides them. so, there should be 2 triggers in the hallway: one sitting close to the indoor-entrance and hiding the trees and one sitting close to the outdoor-entrance and unhiding them. and here lies the problem: i'm only capable of creating triggers/multitriggers that, as soon as the player runs into them, trigger the trees. but that only changes the hiding-state, whatever it is at that moment - so if you run into the same trigger twice, that state isn't really changed after all. that's why i need one trigger only to be capable of saying "hide" and another trigger only being able to say "unhide". of course i'm also open for any other ideas, like a script maybe of whatever... but i hope that i was at least able to carve out the problem itself... oh and one further question: am i right that hidden objects do nearly have zero performance-impact (no polygons/shadows/cm performed as long as they are hidden) ?!

  10. I feel like I should be able to find this easily, but after some time searching both here and on the wiki, I can't. How do you modify the radius of premade light entities? I'm finding that I can crouch directly under a candle half-way up a wall and be virtually unlit, which is pretty useless.
