I made this page about Maya Animation Layers in the Wiki, because any file saved with Animation layers will need the plugin if it's to be modified easily. http://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php/...nimation_Layers If you're really adverse to layers, well you'll only need to install the plugin if you want to work on files I've edited, and setting up the plugin is very quick and painless. Plus I think all our other animators are already familiar with how to work with animation layers. (i.e. squill, heheh) Now I'm keen to strip out Motion Builder from the Wiki - well put all the motion builder stuff in an "archive" section or something. So we can keep the instructions clean and straight forward, for any new comers.

  6. Hey all I need to get good with these programs so I can land a real job like graphic designer. I got a two year degree but my knowledge of these programs is novice. What books do you guys recommend? Remember i'm stateside so try amazon.com or one of the stores over here. I know how to draw pretty good and i've taken a Maya class so I know what i'm doing in that regard. However I have not taken the Illustrator or Photoshop class but i'll learn on my own. Thanks guys .

It's a three part tutorial covering stuff I wished I had known when I started: http://www.thirdfilms.com/darkwiki/index.p...aracter_rigging It covers the basics as well as refining a rigged model. There's some tips & tricks I use when I'm working on a Dark Mod animated character. Which reminds me I should include a section on the export section in a def file . . . maybe later in the week :yawn: Oh yeah, there's a trick to add new meshes after the fact & pointing your Maya materials to the mod textures. Just so I don't forget to add that stuff.
  10. [update] Spoke to Marcus @AMD UK on the phone and as it turns out a number of complaints have been made against "Spyre". My AMD forum account has been unbarred and my Ip address unblocked!!! Bought a new gfx card for xmas, been having issues with mainly the driver So I though a good place to look for support and polity vent etc - or so I thought My second post got flamed by some smart arse fanboy and then promptly locked, to which I reported the posted asking why it had been locked.. and then my account on there got deleted and my Ip blocked (untill the isp dhcp refreshed etc) so I cant login even with a different account name. I have emailed AMD directly about this as I did nothing wrong according the t&c's and I got no warning Pm or email from the forum mods. Now I've been over at the nVidia forums a long while back when I had the 8800GTX when I was equally frustrated when posting about the driver issue with thief etc, but at no point did a thread get locked or worse my account deleted. I don't have loyalty to AMD or nVidia but depending on the answer I get from AMD next week this card maybe going back and AMD will be added to the list of manufactures I will never buy anything from again.   11. Can someone just give me a quick run down of how to get an animated model from Maya to Doom 3. Like what you need in the maya scene, what you need in the Def file, what you need to display the model in doom 3, etc. ATM whenever i try exportModel with a def file of just 1 model and 1 anim command, it crashes (and fucks up my desktop, what's more. You know, just like when you have doom 3 windowed and the desktop is super bright). It's a maya 6 model and i'm using the maya 6 importer dll.
  12. Go to export any model using "exportModels" in Doom 3 console, and for the first MB it encounters, it says (after "Failed to export (blah blah).mb"; "Maya not installed in registry." Then for each subsequent MB file, it says "MayaImport dll not loaded." I'll try re-installing Maya tomorrow (got to go to bed), but if anyone has encountered this problem, let me know.

  14. I'm trying to do this tutorial. http://mentallic.planetunreal.gamespy.com/...Tute1Page3.html The thing is when I create a polygon cube the stupid inputs don't show up. Sure I can go into polygon options and change the subd height and width there. However I use to be able to do it in the editor on the right. Where the hell did it go? I must of changed something. Anyone have any ideas? What i'm talking about is when you create a polygon and then hit the inputs button and change stuff through there. It's gone. Man I hate Maya. My friend now uses XSI and 3d Studio Max slaps Maya a new one. It's so dam buggy and inferior. Grrr .

A few notes about them: Many of the animation meshes do not use the character meshes. This is due to the borrowing of animations from different characters but the animations were tweaked to fit those characters at a later date. So if you want to tweak the Builder Guard walk, don't be surprised to find the Pro Guard walk animation in the BG's directory. I used the directory name in the archive so if you want to export them into the mod, then extract them into darkmod/models to fit the def files. The final directory should be darkmod/models/ask. This archives only contain the meshes that are currently used in the game. I may at a later date match the animation meshes to their character meshes. This will make things much easier for animators.
  16. If any of you have played the game Magestorm me and a few friends are going to re create it. We will use the Irrlicht engine, and someone is making the maps on the hammer editor. We have acquired a programmer from india and he has a friend who's really good at 3ds max. Anyway here is the file. What it's spose to do is travel straight releasing particles. I was trying to color the particles but had no success. Also if you could somehow make the ball break up then dissapear at the end of the animation, it would be great.   19. Hey Dark Mod team, we're watching your mod turning out better and better. Now after your first ampshots and modelrenders you seems to continue sucessfully to give them motion. Well but taht's exactly our current problem with some of our models: We, the Recall to Hell team, have had massive problems recently with exporting animated models from Maya 6. The console prints the following error message: "Copymesh: Too many vertices on a face (4)". Here's a screenshot of the error: http://img483.imageshack.us/img483/4100/spidererror1ab.jpg Logically, we assumed that triangulating the mesh would solve the problem, but it didn't. As far as the export.def file and the bone setup are concerned, we don't expect any errors there, it seems to be something about the mesh itself. Do you have any advice for us how to alter the mesh so we can finally get it ingame? And do we need specific conditions for animating and importing? That would be very kind of you!   20. Just returned from a 7 day holiday, opened up this forum, had at least 4 pages of "new content". Made it past page 2 (to about June 03), and then had to take care of a few things here. When I came back, the forum had logged me out (timeout?), and when you log out, it forgets all "new content". So you log in, and it says "there is nothing new for you". Great, now I never know what I missed between May 30th and June 03.... grrrrrrrrr With email, you would still have all unread messages *sigh* Is there a way to change this behaviour? It has annoyed me in the past, but not as much as this time.. Edit: It's even worse, there is "no new content", but when I go f.i. into the "off topic" sub-forum, it still shows me threads as unread that I definitely already did read an hour ago. So I can't even just look at all the "unread" threads. Oh boy...
  21. Yeah. Unfortunately it seems to be 4.0. I would have to install it to make sure, but I was looking in the installation files and there it says 4.0. What exactly is the issue with M7? What doesn't work?

  23. I've just completed the upgrade from IPB 2.2.x to 2.3.6, the newest official release of IPB. This was done to stay ahead on the IPB version 3 that is currently in the beta stages.
