  1. I have this problem as well, however I can reproduce it quite easily. 1. Install a fan mission after a fresh install of TDM. 2. Install another fan mission or uninstall the one that was installed in step 1. 3. Black screen. Also, the load screen before the main menu is the default Doom 3 one, only without the texts (i.e. Loading game, Initialising Menu) I have tried using the methods found in the previous posts, but none of them worked.   2. Hi, Installation of the mod was smooth and painless. But unfortunately I started experiencing some crashes. There are several cases, when it happens: - when I die - when I load a saved game, being currently in the game (I can load savegame only once - right after the start). - when I quit mission - when mission is completed. When it happens, screen goes black, but not completely - like 95 per cent - I can see a bit of very dark colour, where bright torches were (so it doesn't leave 3D display).   3. I tried it with spaces (C:\Program Files\Doom 3\darkmod), and I had a problem, but I'm not sure if the problem is related to the spaces. The training mission took about 10 min to load - the loading progress bar actually filled up in less than 30 sec, but the message that appeared after that ("mission is preparing to start" or something) was there for 10 min; it would be nice if there was a progress bar for that also, so I know it hasn't locked up. After i d/l it i played it and it worked fine but the next day i went to play it and when i load the game chalice of kings the screen turns blue for a second with a bunch of words and numbers and the screen goes black and sometimes restarts the system doom 3 plays fine 1.8 ghz ram 1024 mb 32 bit win xp
  5. Anyone else have this issue? I've had it for quite awhile. Sometimes I get lucky and get a screen, but it usually has black lines through it. And sometimes it doesn't crash. But right now I basically have to be prepared to reboot if I want to try and grab a screeny. 5850, newest drivers, Win7 64 Home...
  6. You will need to make sure that image_useAllFormats and image_usePreCompressedTextures are both 1. There are situations where these will default to 0, in that case you will get a black screen and cursor, as described. I think this will fix it. You will also need to understand that Intel gfx is beyond the scope of what we will try to actively support. Hatemail for this topic can be directed to Intel. It also looks like you are using PulseAudio - in which case, you're going to have trouble at the next turn. Hatemail for this can be direct to Ubuntu devs for picking the worst horse.
  7. I recently tried to install TDM with the 1.07 Linux installer but for some reason it doesn't download the actual launcher script.   8. I tried all the suggestions and none worked. Deleting the config file, now launches TDM non windowed but still just a black screen. I had several D3 mods, deleted all but TDM, but will try a reinstall. That's about all it likely can be at this point! Thanks for the suggestions and will try to feedback once it is working.   9. cannot start tdm 1.04 after updating from 1.03 ERROR: Error: file script/tdm_events.script, line 215: Unknown event 'log' updater says all ok. 1.03 was working update: downloaded from torrent, works now. seems like my files was changed update2: no, I'm unable to run this version. the second time I launch it, black screen with a cursor appears and music playing. also id logo instead of tdm.   10. Just wanted to test it out in Linux. I have Doom 3 and the expansion installed, and I know they're fine I actually just finished the expansion about a week ago. When I follow the instructions in the wiki, the screen goes black as it changes the resolution, I very briefly see the Dark Mod splash screen, and then it disappears. I'm using 64 bit Ubuntu. Since I can play regular Doom 3, I assume all my 32 bit libaries are in good order. I have libmng1 installed, and I installed libdevil1c2. I did see in the error at the end dlopen '/home/doug/.doom3/thiefs_den/gamex86.so' failed: libIL.s
  11. I've noticed black artefact's for fraction of seconds on the left side of the screen, but they don't appear in the bottom corner (more like distributed all over). I thought it was a consequence of the light gem hack you're doing.
  12. After a while I wanted to play the dark mod again, I am happy to see the community is still active. I once again got the `black screen' on startup, and I solved it the same way. The get the feeling of the game again I wanted to play the Training Mission, but I got the message on post title. Exploring the source code a little I got the game seek that executable using g_Global.GetDarkmodPath() / "tdmlauncher.linux", and according to the log 'Darkmod directory is /opt/doom3/darkmod/'; so it seems a little strange as the resulting path seems correct.   13. I had this at one time with the trainer and also I think for a time during development of my current FM - might have been while I was trying to optimize some big visportals in the city area. I saw black for a few seconds then very briefly the blue screen then reboot. My guess is that it is a normal CTD but also screws up Windows or RAM management somewhere. We used to see blue screens much more commonly years ago but that doesn't mean that Windows is now perfect and traps everything.   14. Guys, I'm having crashes in TDM sometimes. Today was the first time I managed to see a TDM error message (as opposed to just a black screen). It read as follows: IdMovable 'IdBarrel_ATDM:Movable_Junk_WBottle01_Broken_1027': Cannot Load Collision Model Models/Darkmod/Junk/WBottle01/Broken.LWO The crash happened in the third NHAT mission, while trying to open a drawer in a room in the upper floor.   15. I ran into two initial problems when trying out TDM. I have a fix for one that I'll share in case anyone else encounters the same issue. TDM Update CrashesRunning tdm_update.exe results in a crash: 'tdm_update.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.' This happens shortly after the copyright line of text is displayed. A zero length tdm_mirrors.txt file is created. If I manually obtain a correct tdm_mirrors.txt file and run with tdm_update.exe --keep-mirrors, the same crash happens just after 'Fetching checksums from server...'.   16. I have just downloaded TDM using the installer/downloader but I'm having a problem that doesn't appear to be listed anywhere. I've searched these forums, I've gone through the installation guide and the FAQ but everything that seems to be for the problem I have hasn't helped. Basically, when I load the mod I get the music playing but the screen is totally black. I can see the mouse pointer and I can hear the sounds as I pass it over the buttons but I can't see a damn thing.   17. This can be cause by a number of things - the first is please try starting doom3 and putting in the CD key there. If it accepts the key, restart d3 and make sure it doesnt ask again. If this happens chances are that TDM will be fine. If that doesnt work, I remember someone had the same situation regarding gamex86.dll as happens with some people getting a black screen... but try making sure doom3 is happy first. Starting the map directly will skip a lot of 'nice' things, so it isnt really recommended.
  18. I have identified my brand of the black screen problem. Basically, after having gone through the briefings of an appearingly randomly selected number of fms, it gives me a dialogue box saying that the map files cant be found. Which would indicate a problem with the download. I later found out that the problem was caused by me having put spaces between fm names with multiple words when downloading them (i.e. sons of baltona.pk4). Writing sons_of_baltona.pk4 or sonsofbaltona.pk4 completely got rid of the problem.

  20. It doesn't appear that I'm going to get an answer from the Dark Mod team which is odd since this problem seems too large to ignore.   21. Since upgrading my machine (and switching to a Geforce 8800 GTX) I've noticed a couple times now in TDM where I get a strange flicking effect. At first it just looks like the screen is randomly flickering to black for half a second, occuring every 5-10 seconds. Tonight (the second time I've noticed it) it started happening again, and the frequency started getting faster and the effect more severe--after a few minutes surfaces almost looked like they were z-fighting every two seconds or so. It seemed to be somehow related to the flickering of nearby lights...there were a couple places where
  22. Can you post the changes that occur between the DoomConfig.cfg where your screen is pitch black, and the default one? (Since it looks like you're on Linux, a unified diff (use diff -u) would be grand. )
  23. I'm having the same problem on Windows 7 and a GTX280 on 195.62. It starts fine but defaults on 1920x1200, when I set my resolution and restart I just see a black screen.

  25. After a few minutes, the training mission crashes and never in the same place: so far object room, lockpick room, archery range, central room, and even outside. The game however, doesn't actually crash, it just hangs for a second, goes to black screen and I have to go to the task manager to end the game (without the use of my mouse as my pointer refuses to move).
