Tips for improvement

I don't know the origins of this but sometimes my map feels more sluggish than before. Then I delete all files created through compiling; AAS, cm, proc etc, and then the map flows much better...I believe a DMAP do not always replace everything in the files...

Has another experienced this or is this unique for my map?

Yes, that is a known issue... Unfortunately it is not wiki-ed... I will remedy this now...

I go through a thousand then start again. That is, I save in a subfolder just for the backups. The first backup is 999.map then 998.map and so on. I delete very old stuff except a few for reference. When I reach 001.map start again at 999.map. I've never yet done more than 2000 I don't think. I do it backwards so the latest is always at the top of the browser as I'm too lazy to scroll down to see what the next number is.

Is nobody using the autosave-to-snapshot feature?

I haven't used it because the program is a bit unclear on what it actually does, and the last time I looked into the preferences I was afraid to toggle it.

It has happened that I've saved with a new number, but forgot to change the DMAP-text in TDM. Then to become frustrated over why the damn things I have changed in the editor doesn't change in game! rolleyes.gif

I must embarassingly admit that I haven't made any backups of my contest mission more than copying it to the distribution folder...

Must do it when I quit work, or else there may be a computer crash and a mental breakdown... wacko.gif

That is why 'save copy as' is better. It's not the same as 'save as'. It doesn't change the default name of your main save. You keep the same name throughout development, eg, mymap.map and only the backups have different numbers, eg, 123.map or mymap123.map if your prefer. But your main save always remains mymap.map and you use dmap mymap throughout. This is also helpful if you have a map script eg, mymap.script it doesn't need to be changed every time.

I like numbers because it happens occasionally (to me) I want to go back to a specific save point and grab something to pull back over to the latest draft, and I can do branches, where I make a scene two ways, so I can have like _33a and _33b, then take the best one for _34. I still count up from zero; guess I'm not such a stickler for scrolling down, but I started doing it from 2000 so it's sort of a stuck habit anyway.

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!
