Hey there everybody.

 

I just finished my first fm and could need a couple of betatesters.

 

So if you're interrested just say it and I pm you the link.

 

Something I want to mention:

 

- there is a garden in this mission with relatively bad performance (it's still playable on my machine, but low_end machines may have problems here), the rest of the mission should run smooth

- in the garden the sky_portal sometimes breaks, but only if you look from certain positions into certain directions,

static skies work nice, so I'll replace it if its to annoying

- sometimes the AI pathfinding is not optimal

- english isn't my first language, so I could need some feedback on the readables

Glad to see another mission coming down the pipe for us to enjoy. Perhaps one of the folks around here who are highly skilled at map optimization will help you bring the garden up in speed.

I'd love to help, but you seem to have a good sized pool of testers already, and I have my own mission to eventually finish, so unless you desperately need another body, I'll sit this one out. You're already in good hands :)

@Bikerdude: nearly finished I hope, I'm waiting for some replies, but as far as I can see there are only some minor tweaks left

so I hope I'll can "officially release" it within the next few days ^_^

Even though "hidden beta testing" is a tradition here and at TTLG. I don't see what would be wrong with

an "open beta".

 

Eg:

 

1) Release the mission as "Name_of_mission_open_beta"

2) Watch the release thread for bug reports

3) Fix and re-release as the official version

 

Sure, some authors are self-conscience about releasing their work to the public in this state

but it would help to have more eyes in these betas. Most HL2 maps are tested by hundreds of

players. If we get over 10 folks testing a mission that's a very large beta here. :)

I meant that it is currently beta-testet so I can open a "Fan Mission XXX by ..." Thread in the next few days so everyone can download and play it ;)

EDIT: Ah, I guess you mean performance, well it isn't all to bad and I heard no complaints from my betatesters so far

 

there is one location in the map where framerate drops a bit, but it was still playable so far, I guess only old graphic cards may have problems with that (I have a radeon HD 5770)

if I made the last changes I could pm you a link to the map and tell you where the problem occurs so you could take a look for yourself

      The preliminary working titles for the missions in my now-in-development Partners in Crime series: 
      - Partners in Crime 1: A Mere Trinket
      - Partners in Crime 2: Beacon Burglary
      - Partners in Crime 3: In the Bleak Midwinter
      - Partners in Crime 4 (5 ?): Fishy Dealings
      - Partners in Crime 5 (4 ?): A Thief in the Night

      No title stealing, please.  In return, I promise to finish these. I do stress the preliminary part. Beyond the broad strokes storyline, plot, objectives, briefings and the (currently built) layouts of these FMs, I haven't fully decided about every single detail yet, including the exact order of the missions (4 and 5 might switch places, with the story adjusted accordingly). I want the overall plot to be plotted out a bit in advance and not suffer too much from inserting prequels later. I also prefer to let my FM building fill out part of the details naturally.

      Currently working on the second FM, and once I do enough work on the current prototype, I'll work on the first one, until I get that one released. Then complete the second one, get that one ready for release (hopefully) a few months later, and so on. I want most of the early missions to be fairly small and confined, and get a bit bigger as I grow more confident in my FM making skills.

      Though there is an overarching storyline to this series, the missions themselves are mostly episodic in nature. They factor into the character development of the two main characters I'll have in the series, but it's the kind of continuity where the mission's own plot and story wouldn't depend on it.

      I've updated all of the Fan Mission documentation on our TDM wiki. As I've gone to the trouble of documenting every officially known fan mission, we currently have a total of 192 missions (the vast majority of them Single Missions, and a few done in the format of a Campaign). Maybe I should get working on my own again, soon, just to add something to the approaching first two hundred.
