  1. I was playing an FM the other day, and it got me thinking about thief and its universe. I just love how insted of having somthing that can only happen 1 way, like pushing a button, they make many ways of hitting buttons, insted of the 1 standard walk up and smack it method. What are the plans for this(if any) in TDM? Well we be able to shoot them with broadheads/moss etc(assuming they will exist in some form)? Might you even take it farther by making ANY physical object capable of hitting buttons/moving leavers? Maybe even bodies of guards? I just wonder because I grow tired of the closed in linear universe of so many games, where theres a leaver/button that isnt easy to get to, but it isnt really a leaver/button, its an object that can only be interacted with in 1 way, via activation through proximity or touch. Thats one thing Ive always been interested with in gaming/computing. The idea of building a world that operates on basic principles, where there isnt really 1 way of doing anything. Where you dont have to wonder whether or not you can do somthing, apply the basic principles to it and anything that would work will. Buttons/leavers are a simple example but they serve the purpose well. Another, slightly off topic question I had regards AI attention. I love in thief being able to use noisemaker arrows, but they have drawbacks(if you want it to be realistic). A guard would probably find this noisy ass arrow, and then realize without a doubt that there was a thief around. Are there any plans to make noise in general attract attention, not just noises from specific sources? I always thought it would be awsome if you could just throw somthing and it would cause a guard to go look, not in the "search" mode, but just in a curious non-threat mode, and after seeing the object, be on maybe a slightly higher state of suspicion, but not actually worried. It just goes back to my thoughts about how I would like games to work, where you build a system basic enough that it can expand the possible playing styles/gameplay beyond what one could do by just coding every senerio one can think of. I hope not too much of this has been discussed elsewhere, Ive been reading around on these forums a while unable to post because my registration was being silly.

    Credits Update

Tad late to the thread, but yeah you can add my name as well please - Martin "Dram" Melicharek Wish I had completed Blackheart so it could be released, but alas it will have to wait till a later release. I was hoping to see some footage in the credits but that's my fault I didn't get more maps done. Gah..
  3. I haven't seen this thread until now - it's not fixed yet, but it'll be an easy fix.
  4. http://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?showtopic=2955 thats where you'll find the newest version. you have to wait till an admin transforms you into a beta mapper though (damn it admins, stop being lazy! ) Welcome aboard
  5. Thanks, this is just about perfect now. I'll deal with the floating problem in another thread.
  6. Like an idiot I went to delete one of my posts and accidently deleted the whole thread. Here it is in quotes:
  7. Maybe that term is not used on foreign forums... Flooder - someone who writes useless posts.
  8. Already happening http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=101261
  9. Try hitting up the penny arcade forums, they start congo lines for these things all the time.
  10. Didn't bother starting a new thread for this... Well there we have it, more voice sets! Including!...... *drumroll... Zombies!! Two different vocal sets for zombies to boot! More of the TDP style, tortured breathing, lung rotted goodness! We also have the simpleton (man, you guys are gonna LAUGH... could also be used as a dumb guard), the lord, and the young builder finished as well. 6 vocal sets in a day of recording is a record for me (pats self on back). Just engineering and editing them up as we speak... may have a download link for everyone as soon as tomorrow by midday. GC
  11. I'm going to abuse this thread here. @Springheel: we have a few files where I don't know what to do about them. skins/test_springheel.skin skins/test_shadowmesh.skin materials/springheels_characters.mtr materials/springheels_old_skin_series.mtr Can we safely leave them out or are their contents referenced by any models we release?
  12. Yeah. If you checked the posts from the other guys who were supporting me, they were the oines that actually contributed some code or knowledge to the forum, while most others, backing son_of_sam2 were noobs themselve. Well, I don't really frequent the board much anymore. There is no point. I do look there quite often, but this is more out of boredom when all the other forums on other sites dried out and I have to wait for something. I don't really expect much in tems of actual info. Currently the most hottest topic apparently are wether VC2005 is nice or not. What can you do?

    What about these: http://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?showtopic=2109
  14. Err, you are aware that Oddity has done several Belcher models already, right? http://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?showt...=626&hl=belcher They're not quite done yet according to Oddity, but we do have them :/

One of the things we discussed about the original concept art was that the legs needed an extra joint if the thing was going to be able to walk. http://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?showt...=175&hl=belcher
  16. No, mainly because you can use quotes to seach for exact phrases, or include a hyphen to ommit words, but then that's the standard on most forums, and it's completely useless.
  17. There are no ill effects to drinking about three pints every week as I do. It just puts your brain is 'social mode' for five hours a week. My four hour badminton session on Sunday with the same friends more than makes up for it, health wise. If you can't drink in moderation, fair enough, you're an alcoholic and should stay the hell away from the stuff. Speaking of addiction, what about the internet? How long could you go without it? I'm sure it's pretty addictive, and has plenty of detremental effects. I could go a few months without a drink, but would struggle to go a few days without checking my e-mail or various forums to see what's going on.
  18. http://www.halflife2.net/forums/showthread.php?t=96419 I love the source engine. With a new Might and Magic game coming out, plus this... just wow.
  19. Thanks BT, I've been looking for those for a while. Looks really good. Here's a link on the subject just in case: http://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?showtopic=779
  20. This thread reminds of that episode where Lt. Barclay is discussing equations at the chalkboard with Einstein. Couldn't find an image, damnit. I have nothing to contribute here (waaay out of league), except to say it somehow gives me a warm fuzzy to see the actual "attempting to solve a problem" (presumably for the first time?) of graduate work as opposed to the "solve the same damn textbook assignments a million other students also solved" of undergraduate. I recall doing my senior (undergrad) "research" on a platinum cancer drug, only to find out near the end "oh, this is just academic exercise; this compound has already been researched and dismissed as a viable drug." Oh... erm... thanks. :-/
  21. I just use photoshop BT. Format: TGA with RLE 24 bit Lossless Compression. Just follow the guidelines here if you aren't sure what size to make some of them. http://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?act=announce&f=17&id=1 Take care to only use lossless compression as we don't want to sacrifice the quality. On average, the diffuse textures should work down to around 700kb at 512X512
  22. I only have the toolbar, address bar and window tabs, as I'm sure the vast majority of Opera users have at least that much as well. I kee my screen 1280x1024 so it's not a problem for me anyway, but most people have their's at 1024 or even samller.I guess I'll have to try the OPera forums to see if there is a way around this.
  23. Well, I don't call myself "an animator" since I don't consider animation to be one of my core skills. I dabble; I took 3 semesters of digital animation as electives at uni, which is why I know as much as I do. I had to quit the stream early due to increasing workload in year 3 of my degree. So I'm no beginner, but I'm no expert either. I'd like to practice more, just don't have the time these days... bloody Honours year. (Replying to an old post, I know - must have missed this thread earlier due to my forum hiatus.)

Gah... Can't post anywhere on the dev forums NH or pm, please fix it someone
  25. Hey guys, I finally got my new laptop!!! It's amazingly fast and surprisingly not hot at all, for all the power under the hood it runs a lot cooler than my last one. Anyways you can find pics and benchmarks in this thread on Rage3d.com: http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?t=33947556 No registration required WARNING: Lots of large pics, is not suitable at all for dialup.
