  1. A huge Thank You to everyone who voted for the mod, we made it into the Top 100. Phase Two of voting has started and you need to vote again for the The Dark Mod to progress to the finals. You can find the voting station here: http://www.moddb.com/events/2010-mod-of-the-year-awards/top100 Click on Doom III: Then click on Vote And that's it. I know we didn't win last year, but let's get a good effort started right away. Head on over to http://www.moddb.com/mods/the-dark-mod , log into your account there and vote for TDM! EDIT: Don't forget you need to register an account with moddb.com. You can vote as a Guest but those votes DO NOT COUNT UNLESS THERE IS A TIE! EDIT 2: From "THE RULES" The top 100 is determined by "quality" of vote. For example a vote from a long time member is worth more than a new members vote which is again worth more than a guests vote.
  2. I stopped checking TDM download numbers when the updates first began because lots of files were being downloaded over and over. Now updates are just downloading changes so the original pk4s should give a clue to how many newcomers there are per month. But from my fidcal site these vary from 60-odd to about 90-odd per month for each pk4 in the set. I'd have thought they'd all be the same or close because after all, if you download the whole of Dark Mod you need one of each. But presumably because of errors and re-downloads etc I guess the average is around 70-odd for this mirror. Here are a couple of recent sample months for FMs. The figure on the right is the number of downloads for that month. They are listed in order of number of downloads. There are other download sites of course. Tels site virtually duplicates this so in theory it should be double these numbers for the two mirrors. @Tels, are you able to verify your figures are approximately the same? 3. The first time I heard the sweet music box playing in the background I knew I was going to end up being haunted by its melancholic beauty. Thing is, I have a thing for music boxes and their melodies, so I wanted to know whats the name of the music that plays at the menu and where can I get it? I don't plan on using it on anything, its just I want to add it to my playlist I freaking love the Dark Mod, I found it recently when I was browing for mods for Thief and at first I thought it was an actual game or expansion pack, but this is amazing too, already finished two missions. Keep em coming! Good job TDM team and fan-mission creators I apologize for my english, but I'm not a native speaker. Its not that I don't know how to write it, its that I try to type fast and don't check for typos xD
  4. Please guys! Please don't put the news page to sleep like the ModDB-page is (compared to the news section on darkmod.com) and post the most updates on this crappy facebook. Please!
  5. Alright, the forum has successfully been upgraded to IPB version 2.2.2. If you have any comments, bug reports, suggestion or general feedback, post it here. IMPORTANT: Since a lot of the client-script files have been updated it is mandatory to empty your cached files from this forum. You can either empty your browser cache if you want to (check the settings), or you can do a hard refresh (this is usually done by holding the Ctrl-button while you hit 'Refresh'). Cheers, ~m2

Just received a little thank you package from 7upMan for some stuff I did for him, but I will consider it the seasons contest prize instead!
  7. You've had a week or two to get familiar with the Dark Radiant FM editor so we are now running a fast build FM contest. Deadline will be the week before Christmas but with a grace period of two weeks so if you start a bit late or not quite finished then the final date will be New Year's day. Hopefully this will mean a sprinkling of tiny fun FMs over the Christmas period. Even if you don't finish in time you can still submit your FM for voting to get an assessment. The FM can be any topic, style, size whatever you want but obviously, in only say 5 or 6 weeks you should think TINY! Apart from the trainer, all the FMs released to date were initially built in around a month (Outpost in only a week) most by newcomers, plus say a month's tweaking and testing so it's perfectly possible. But think of something with about 10 rooms and don't be too ambitious. By 'rooms' we mean similar areas of complexity, eg a street. Don't try to do anything too technical or clever that might slow you down. Stick with the basics. Better to finish early then spend a week adding something and polishing. Each FM must be submitted in the 'official' FM format - in a .pk4 file, ready to play. Help is on offer for those that need it. You are free to use the startpack or not as you wish. All objectives, weapons, etc. are already working so you only need to eg, adjust loot values. You could make a one room FM all packaged up in less than an hour. Making a title loader with progress bar is as easy as taking a screenshot and saving it in a folder. If you've already started a small FM that might be suitable then I won't tell anyone if you don't. If you've started a big FM that can't be finished in time then consider laying it aside for a few weeks. You can learn more by building quick so when you go back to your main FM you will be more experienced. Each FM will have its own thread for voting a score in three categories and each will be weighted as follows: Gameplay: 3 Appearance: 2 Story & Text: 1 So 4 votes for appearance will count as 8 points. This will have to be calculated manually later. Expect the FMs to have a few rough edges because they are being made very quickly and only rough beta tested. Please use this thread for any feedback or queries on the competition itself but post feedback for each FM on its thread (they'll be created as the FMs are ready.) Also post below if you are taking part or thinking about it. It's fairly informal so you don't need to register as such. If you turn up announced at Christmas with an entry FM then that's fine but it would be fun to have some idea who's doing what! Good luck!
  8. I'm kinda relearning the T3 editor, and I was seriously thinking about dumping the T3 edit & moving on to the Dark Mod editor (radiant I think it's called) instead. Would it be like the T3ed or better? After trying the T3editor & then trying Dromed for T2, I said to myself "forget that!", I'd rather do T3 The Reason for my change of heart to the Dark Mod is that it's so much more "thief realistic". Everything is so BLUE in T3, literally... Take for example: St. Lucia, the secret switch in the priest's room... it was grey, Not Blue when frobbing was possible... I really liked that, took me forever to find it (Thank You 'sNeaksieGarrett' for the spoiler on that one)... I love the realistic water in the Dark Mod as well... I know there's issues yet to be figured out with the Dark Mod, but if I'm going to put a lot of time & dedication into this I need to know what system would be better for my game...
  9. I keep reading people who work with radiant and some with Doom3 Editor. Are they the same thing. Which one should I be learning for the Darkmod. Which is better if they are different. SO many questions so little time.
  10. Hi, For research purposes, I'd be interested in porting the Dark Mod to an open source engine (mainly because one can then plug in high-level language environments like Java or erlang on which to quickly test new AI). The game engine itself should be no problem, I guess, but I'd like to know if there's any reason (lack of dynamic lighting, for example) for avoiding one. My initial choices are ioquake3 and DarkPlaces. Does this sound remotely feasible? Thanks a lot!!! Javier
  11. Looks like somebody added hardware eating components in TDM 1.04. I've tested some of the old missions. They're running slowly or crash. The main menu looks blurry, too. Display resolutions were TDM 1.04 @ 640x480 and TDM 1.04 @ 1280x720. It's running smoothly with TDM 1.03 @ 1024x768. System Configuration: AMD Athlon X2 2.8 GHz Dual-Core, 2 GB RAM, ATI Radeon HD 3200, 22" (1920 x 1080), Win XP Pro with SP3. Any ideas how to solve this problem ?
  12. Happy new but also dark (as in DarkMod of course) year to you too! :-)

  13. Composer to composer forum @ finalemusic: http://acf.finalemusic.com/ This fairly new & isn't very busy at all. http://www.music-web.org/forum/index.php Better organized & a lot busier. So this would be a great place to introduce ourselves It has music theory, composition showcase, music encyclopedia, & more.
  14. Hey guys, I've been trying to solve this problem on my own forever now, and I realize that google isn't getting me anywhere. Ok, so I installed doom 3, play it while TDM downloads, and then install the dark mod, and then I get a runtime error on startup for TDM. I google, and I realized I need to be patched, so I download that latest patch, then the updater tells me that it doesn't know which version of Doom 3 i have, but somehow I can still choose a filepath for the updater, so I choose it, update it, and then doom 3 starts up after the updater closes. That's when It crashes, and I get some console looking window with a blue background, this is what it says: DOOM 1.3.1302 win-x86 May 12 2005 10:40:52 1800 MHz Intel CPU with MMX & SSE & SSE2 & SSE3 & So now I do a fresh install of everything, and I even change file paths, like that would matter. And I mess around a while and mess with different fixes, and nothing changes. So I visit the forums, check out the FAQ, and I read where I need to have version 1.3.1.1304. So I make a fresh install of Doom 3 again, and I check out the version number in-game (Doom 3 works until I patch it) and it is 1.3.1.1302. So before I patch it, I try a fresh install of TDM AGAIN. and now it runs vanilla Doom 3. like the application was just doom 3 with a different icon and filename. I patch the game. and now I get the same exact console thing again.. the Wrong game DLL API Version one. So I guess my main question here is, what do I do to get this game to patch? pre-patch : Doom 3 runs fine, TDM gets a runtime error Post-patch : Doom 3 crashes and I get an error log or something, and TDM starts up Doom 3, which crashes as well. It loads up fine, and right when the initial loading is done (right before the main menu) bam. crash. I hate to have my first post be a problem, but I don't know where else to go. I appreciate the help guys.
  15. cool i knew brown barn spiders are worth something.
  16. Check out our new twitter account @thedarkmod or our facebook page. We'll be aiming to keep everyone up to date with the latest updates.
  17. Needed to reload the computer this weekend. Previously I had Dark Mod working well and had acquired it by using the updater. I have downloaded the full Dark Mod using the torrent and have a 1.61gb folder ready for use. My main question is how to deploy TDM using the full download. -Do I just copy the files to the Doom 3 folder? -Are there any special instructions/requirements apart from Doom and the 1.3.1 patch? TIA for any comments or hints.
  18. Hello there, I am working for a german online entertainment magazine known as gamona. As I am a Thief-Fan myself (been lurking around these forums for a while now, after learning about your project via ttlg.com) I thought this project deserved more attention. So here is my request: Is someone of your team available for an interview via e-mail? I would like to write an article about the outstanding work done by these creative modders for my magazine. gamona focuses mainly on mainstream audiences but with a focus on "unique content" to spice up our coverage. If you would like some examples from the one who wants to write about you...here you go: A "Machinarium" Preview A "World of Goo" Review A Special about the upcoming Gothic-successor "Risen" Unfortunately, all of these articles are written in german, but as far as I know you have some german team members as well, so they could help you decide if you would be willing to appear in our online mag. There is no need to hurry, as I am going to be out of office for three weeks now. Maybe you will have released "The Dark Mod" by then already. By the way, our magazine could host "The Dark Mod" files eventually. Best regards, Jakob Heiden
  19. I know I've been silent for the past oh, 3 or so years, but that doesn't mean I ever forgot The Dark Mod, or lost interest. Things have changed for me since the first time I learned of it, one of the biggest changes being the fact that I no longer use windows. I hadn't tried Doom 3 in Linux (currently running Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty), until I saw that the dark mod had been officially released, and to my dismay found a gigantic problem, not with the dark mod as much as with doom 3 itself. My problem is that doom 3 doesn't seem to recognize the arrow keys, delete/insert/home/end/pgup/pgdn some of the number pad keys, and the ctrl key properly. it seems to think ctrl is pgdn, and all the arrow keys and the 6 keys above them are interpreted as 0x00. I have my keyboard layout set as "Microsoft Comfort Curve 2000" which is what it is, and I have tried setting it to generic--endev hoping that would solve my problems, but no linux layout seems to help. I'm sure you all have guessed by now that I am left-handed, and using WASD is kind of out of the question--it'd be like re-learning pc-gaming. I have tried manually editing DoomConfig.cfg adding the keyboard codes (i.e. 0x103 for _forward), but that has done nothing. Hopefully someone here can help me? I want to play, but it's nearly impossible with a different key layout, and wine and virtualbox would never be able to handle the doom 3 engine with my current PC.
  20. I just wanna tell you guys who made Dark Mod that your work is really impressive. I can't find the words to express how surprised I am to see such a complex product made only from passion. If I wouldn't see it with my own eyes I'd never believe somebody telling me that this is not created by a company that spent huge amount of money to get it done. And I haven't even played any mission, I'm in training...
  21. I'm sorry this took so long, but I've just restored the forums from a backup I took on saturday. The forums were 'hacked' by a script-kiddie yesterday. I saw in the admin logs that he logged in with one of the admin accounts (probably after 'guessing' the password with some brute force script). He then edited all of the admin accounts and removed their access to the admin control panel (acp). Then he edited the forum description and wrote a text saying we would get acp access back for the total amount of $100. Right. Anyway, since I had to restore a backup of the database, some posts/threads/PM's and new users were wiped, but I couldn't do anything with that. I don't think this guy did anything other than removing the admin powers and editing the forum description when he was in the acp (all operations in the acp is logged), and he had no access to download the database. But just in case I urge you to change your password on this forum, and other sites where you've got the same account name and password. It's better to be safe than sorry. All admins are instructed to change their passwords to a hard-to-guess one. The password should; not contain any words found in a dictionary contain atleast 8 characters or more consist of characters, numbers and signs in a good mix consist of both lower- and uppercase characters/signs Also, always LOG OUT after you're done in the admin cp, and don't click on links in threads when logged into the admin cp. If an intruder fetches your cookie, he can access the admin cp. All admins have lost their acp access. They will get it back once they have changed their password. Please PM Fingernail when you have changed your password. Also, the acp is .htaccess protected with a username/password, and I've given the login info to Fingernail.
  22. Hi. Cant find an e-mail address, so I post it here. It seems the first playable version of the dark mod is getting finished. I am the webmaster of thief-universe.com, a german fansite about the thief-series, but we are interested in projects like the dark mod as well. Especially in this case we would be proud to upload a mirror to our download area to make this mod available for our users and visitors. Of course we would set links to your webpage, write news, etc. In this thread i want nothing more than to ask for permission to get this mirror when the dark mod beta is finished. greetz
  23. Greetings all, your mod was mentioned in one of the front page articles for Fileplanet.com today. Check it out here and congrats. http://blog.fileplanet.com/2011/01/12/some-games-need-a-sex-change/
  24. (For some reason I couldn't find any topic like this) I fired up Dark Mod with mild enthusiasm; it's a mod, afterall. But after having played through Tears of st Lucia, it left me almost shaking afterwards. This is Thief, pure and simple. Thief with Crysis-like graphics. It's an amazing piece of work you have done! It's what T3 should've been right from the start. Dark Mod feels just like Thief. This is Thief!
