  1. Tr3B (from XTReal engine) is planning on sharing his old Doom 3 work in the same repo as his BFG fixes: https://github.com/RobertBeckebans/RBDOOM-3-BFG

  2. http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=MTIzMjU I don't think so, TDM it's there!
  3. whats happened to Carmack ? who's to blame ? Bethesda ? You know whats most funny about BFG editon ? There is no dynamic shadows ! Doom 3 for XBOX1 had them !!! so they took XBOX1 version of D3 (yes, they took XBOX version, because PC version graphics was clearly better, also cutscenes was videos instead of being made in realtime engine in XBOX version),removed shadows, added few godawflul levels that was made in 15 minutes, added Doom 1 and Doom 2 as the bonus games (but no one of newer genereation will not play them anyway) and they want 30$ for this. now lets try so solve that mystery together : WHY THEY REMOVED SHADOWS FROM THE RE-EDITION OF 2004 YEAR GAME FOR NEWER GAMING PLATFORMS ? xbox 1 was able to handle realtime shadows so xbox360 should too,PS3 has even better hardware than xbox360 and i'm not even talking about PC. Also take a look at Carmack's 3D headset.I was lolled hard when i saw it is this a 320x240 VGA monitor attached to a head via the adhesive tape ?
  4. How will he adjust to having no shotgun? Prepare to be impressed:
  5. Vanilla Doom 3 is now available on Steam again! http://store.steampowered.com/app/9050/

i think they got complaints about the bfg version not being able to play mods.

      Good news for TDM!

      Springheel

We'll still get lots of confusion from people who don't know the difference, but at least it's available.

  6. I stumbled across the following post on moddb: So I guess this question is, does this actually work? I have a legitimate copy of Doom 3 with TDM installed already so I haven't had a reason to try this. However, I'm curious as to whether this works at all, what issues may pop up attempting to do this, and if it does work would there would be any problems suggesting this to others.

(We can leave the thread for journalism corruption, but just on this...) Then the issue in academia is money flowing to the more corruptable fields like science & engineering with the big corporate grants & revolving door with staff. The humanities might not get that, but OTOH they are getting pressured to "justify their existence" financially. I could probably agree it's rife in almost any human field though, as long as there are incentives there will be corruption.

    3. demagogue

      demagogue

Or then we have the "uncorruptable" critical academics, but then they're basing their work on Derrida or Marx and are so detached from reality they throw their credibility out the window. It's good to be critically detached, not so good to be derailed from reality. My position in law sometimes is something like a critical realism, but it's practically an orphan position. (You want to protect victims *and* think science works??? Wha...?)

    4. Sotha

      Sotha

Who is uncorruptable anyways? I cannot convince even myself that I would be uncorruptable in every situation. And I perceive myself to be situated in the more-reliable-than-50%-of-the-general-population side in the gaussian distribution curve of corruption. Problematic, yes?

  7. Hi guys, As a long term taffer I'm very happy that the team had the courage to start making TDM work as a standalone! I'm aware there must be plenty of work left, but I dare asking about one little (I hope) thing: It looks like half of the missions would already be playable ... if only torches would emit light. Any idea when this could be achieved ? Thanks.
  8. New Brutal DooM trailer!!!

@Sotha, but here in the Uk we always put the work Go at the the beginning of that sentence..

    3. Sotha

      Sotha

Huh? Cannot understand. Sentence seems incomplete. "Put the work" on what? Go to the beginning of what sentence?

  9. For the last 1-2 weeks the forums have been really slow and unresponsive for me, when I type a post half the time it just sits there etc.. is anyone else having the same issues..?
  10. I know this is probably nothing but I thought I would ask anyway. I tried to launch TDM the other day, and Zonealarm crops up and says "Doom 3 has been detected as a keylogger". I clicked for more info and it listed doom 3.exe as the process being picked up as a keylogger. This didn't happen with the plain old Zonealarm firewall, but now that I have the antivirus as well, this is happening. I can just click allow and play the game seeing as it's 90% likely that it's a false positive, but thought I would just post this here to ease my mind a bit. Anyone else get this sort of thing?
  11. Hi, I bought Steam Doom 3 yesterday and the only change I did in D3 was changing the resolution to 1920x1200, which an be done in D3s config file. I downloaded TDM then, put the stuff in Doom 3\darkmod\ and ran the updater. A few files got updated. Then I started "c:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Doom 3\darkmod\tdmlauncher.exe" and the result is this: In the background I can see the TDM wallpaper additionally. And thats it. Crash, bang, exit. What can I do? I wanted to play this mod soooo badly. My system is a Core i7 3.4 - 8 GB Ram - Win7x64 - GTX570 - HD is an SSD. TIA Michael
  12. This is the news: http://www.phoronix....item&px=MTE4ODM http://youtu.be/PYGeXko_xf0 (if some moderators think that it's OT here, you can move this topic on the offtopic section, no problem )
  13. Brutal DooM. Anyone heard of this thing? :D
    1. RPGista

      RPGista

Man, that's brutal alright! I recognize some blood spatter from Blood, but those explosions and gibs are outrageous. Really cool mod.

    2. Xarg

      Xarg

I played it a bit a while ago, unfortunately I had 300 ping to the host and I kept eating my own rockets when teammates ran in front of me. Good fun though

  14. Possibly not K.I.S.S.I.N.G. after all. I'm sure everybody already knows, but there's a new PC rehash of Doom 3 around the corner with the original content running on quite a lot of the newer idTech5 (not the original idTech4) code base and apparently isn't mod friendly - ie it seems likely that TDM won't run on it. I'm hoping that this is a good thing in a round a bouts sort of way and JC will manage to work it so the Open Source Tech 4 engine ends up getting a working renderer. But that's nothing but idle speculation and wishful thinking on my part. In the mean time it's possibly not the smoothest thing for TDM.
  15. Doom 3 $4.99 on Steam atm.

Just over 5 hours left if you want to gift it to someone/have a friend on the fence.

    2. SiyahParsomen

      SiyahParsomen

Normal price of Doom3 is $20! Holy crap, they are daydreamin :)

    3. Bikerdude

      Bikerdude

Gotta laugh at the "normal" price as you say. In what reality do they think the game is worth more than $5 - thats bad enough but then a digital download only copy is worth even less in my book. But then as most people know I have no time for valve/steam due to its abject deliberate failure of its customer care dept and with regard to second hand games.

  16. I wonder if v1.08 would run "standalone" if end-users copied pk4 data from the Doom 3 demo. Nobody could officially condone it but players might get to try TDM without downloading anything illegal...

    2. Tels

      Tels

Using the demo00.pk4 won't work - it might bring a missing few resources, but missions using skeletons or undead will still crash. Nice idea, tho.

      nbohr1more

      Pretty cool find rebb!

@Tels, yeah it was a long shot but I thought there were Zombies in the demo (but probably not the ones TDM uses which probably are from the Hell stages).

  17. mh has taken a stab at a full GLSL backend for Doom 3 too... http://www.quaketastic.com/upload/files/misc/MH-Doom3-GLSLBackendAndShaders.zip

I see. Here's the blip on "mh" I got from google that put it in perspective for me: http://mhquake.blogspot.com/2011/11/doom-3-shaders.html

    3. deadite4

      deadite4

This is nothing more than like 4 other people have released. IE, backend with interaction shader and not a full set of shaders. Honestly just talk to Sikkpin. He's really nice.

    4. nbohr1more

      nbohr1more

Yes, though with this work mh went the extra mile to really prove that the shaders are GPL because they are rewrites of the fixed function backend included with the GPL sources. Still doesn't complete the set though ;)

  18. So I made this thing in honour of The Shard's inauguration; enjoy! http://doom-doom-doom.tumblr.com/post/26700870947/the-prince-of-wales-on-architecture-the-shard-is

heheh, the laser show at the grand opening was a joke. And you can go up in the elevator, but the cheeky gits have the stunning audacity to charge £25a time..

@jay pettit: There is an uncanny resemblance, plus it is an example of a symbol of power ripping up the city fabric.

@Bikerdude: I can probably think of a hundred better ways to spend Ł25 in London...

  19. Does anyone have any recommendations for Doom 3 mods? Ideally something that is very unlike Doom 3. I might try a shoot em up though if anyone thinks it is really good. I did play through Doom 3 when I got a few years ago. It wasn't a terrible way to spend a few hours but the whole experience was quite forgettable.
