  1. I been downloading the mod. But I don't have doom 3 installed on my computer yet so I just been downloading the mod in a make shift folder for the time being then planning to cut the files and paste them into where they are meant to go when I install doom 3. Will this work or do I have to download the files into the the doom 3 folder for it to work?
  2. My progress has stalled not through lack of enthusiasm or running into problems, it's just through lack of preparation :-/ I booked a hotel with decent wifi this week but forgot to copy my new particle shaders to my usb fob when I copied my debug builds. And the ancient laptop I borrowed from my mum now refuses to launch TDM for some mysterious reason so I haven't even been able to test anything. Installing anything on this coal-fired beast takes 20 mins so trying to fix it is a depre...

Could be worse, we have an old laptop here that takes about 3 minutes to launch a modern broswer :)

      Bikerdude

In the grans scheme of things, the laptop is quite good for old shed if it can manage 14fps. Means its got better-than-sh*t-intel-graphics gpu onboard.

      SteveL

It does have Intel on board gpu, but I was in a tiny test map :) Now back home and setting out to find out how the engine decides whether to draw a particle. With r_showtris on, some are visible across the entire map, others are hidden by visportalling like everything else. I want to understand why before turning off depth testing for the softening shader...

  3. Love your signature over at the Eidos forums. Hahaha!

      Maijstral

I don't normally even use signatures, but I've used a few to voice my displeasure at what EM is doing to Thief. I'll probably stick with that one until I lose interest in visiting the EM forums.

  4. If we help Biker with his driver performance problems he'll stop trying to optimize his upcoming mission... Talk about conflict of interest :)

  5. This might be obvious to some people, but I'm still a noob and my TDM behavior was annoying me. Running LInux Mint 17 and following the wiki to install TDM yields a few errors after you enter "chmod +x tdm_update.linux" in terminal you can install tdm with "sudo ./tdm_update.linux (not mentioned in wiki but might be something new users don't know) here's the part that threw me off. The training mission + Saint Lucia was invisible after the download was completed TDM was also having some weird behaviors with some missions not installing causing CTD The solution I found was that the permissions in the files + subfolders of main darkmod folder was not the same Some items was under root privileges meaning you can't erase/modify it without being a superuser After modifying all the user/group/permissions TDM was happy again. Hope this helps someone.
  6. This sounds very promising...fixes a lot of the annoying audio problems and the shadow problem that has been keeping me from playing the game! Fixed an issue where when finishing a chapter, the user would be brought back to the start. That primarily occurred around the April 1st. Fixed several audio issues, including: - Issues with sound occlusion, being able to hear NPCs talking through walls. - Issues with music being relatively loud in several chapters. - Issue with credits music. Fixed an issue with shadows that would occur on certain Nvidia and Intel GPUs. Fixed issues where the quicksave would be overwritten. - Quicksaves now occupy a seperate slot internally and in the loading menu. To load a quicksave press F9 or go into the Load menu and select the Quicksave Slot. Increased dedicated texture memory pool size for Intel GPUs. Fixed an issue where several documents were missing. Fixed an issue where the Spectral Aspect trinket had no effect. Fixed an issue where player was unable to look around while using the handwheel. Button prompts in the station screens now update automatically based on the user input method. Several minor bug fixes. http://forums.eidosgames.com/showthread.php?t=142975 Credit where credit is due. It's annoying that the bugs were a part of the release, but at least they're continuing to fix them.
  7. Having played TDM for quite some time, I decided to replay the first three Thief games again, after several years. So, I went ahead and downloaded a bunch of mods and fixes (TFix, HDMod, Tafferpatcher etc.; made sure I had the latest NewDark for some interesting TMA FMs). Now, I have them up and running, but I can't get the keyboard bindings work properly: In TG and TMA I have walk and run bound to W and Shift+W, respectively, but whenever I'm already walking forward, pressing shift stops Garret dead in his tracks, which sort of ruins the gameplay. It works I press shift first, but that's really awkward when surrounded by a bunch of guards and you have to scamper. I don't remember if the original games were like this (I think not), so maybe this is something brought along by NewDark? Anyone have any suggestions as to what might be going on here and how to fix it? I'm running the games on Linux though WINE, but I don't think that's the source of the problem as the games run perfectly otherwise and every other keybinding works... Google didn't turn up anything, either.
  8. What's going on with the Thi4f forums? They've been down for almost a week now.

Well that's not going to work. If they can't post about Thi4f on the Thi4f forums they can come and post about TDM on the TDM forums.

People thought it was the server migration under Square-Enix that we've been told about, but they came back online like nothing happened, and the dedicated thread about the coming migration had no new info.

      Can't see this?:

maybe it was a migration test, and it broke.

"for some reason" I imagine is you being sarcastic as we all know everybody and their brother/sister are online on Sunday either shopping or looking at porn combined with all the gaming packets.

I'm sure there are also people just "reading things for the articles" though...

    Forums fixed

Had a problem with the web server yesterday that led to a crashed table in the forum database. This has now been repaired and things seems to work again. I was on travel so it took a while before I was able to fix it. Merry Christmas!
  11. I can get on the main forum now but still get an error when trying to load posts. Anyone else?

  12. Yes, you are still viewing The Dark Mod Forums I've just finished the upgrade of our IPB Board Forums to the latest release. Packed with new features, rewritten code and all that. Have a look around. The skin is currently the default one, but will sooner or later be converted to a darker skin, to fit the Dark Mod universe. Also note that the forums have been moved from http://modetwo.net/darkmod to it's own sub-domain: http://forums.thedarkmod.com - all forum links will still work tho, thanks to Apache's rewrite-plugin. Please report any bugs, requests and comments in this thread. PS: The forums will run a bit slow the first hours as the cache is being rebuilt.
  13. Hi there, all! I've been enjoying The Dark Mod for years now, and finally got myself a brand spanking new computer system, pretty high end stuff. I had been using Windows 8 on the last rig and I had gotten TDM to run, but now I'm having problems. I've done the usual things, of running it as administrator and making sure it has write access to the directory, but whenever I try to play a mission, like St. Lucia, it goes through the intro, lets me pick equipment, starts to load and shows progress, then just drops me back to the main menu -- with no sound. I've got a geForce 780 Ti video card now, and I can get other games to do 3D just fine -- not sure if I've gotten any other OpenGL game to work yet, though. Also, sometimes it drops me back to the main menu, with no sound, and kills my mouse's ability to move. I need to sleep/wake up or reboot to get it back. Keyboard stays fine. I've pulled up the console, and here's the last few lines of the console that I see when it drops me back to the main menu: removed 2 degenerate triangles removed 16 degenerate triangles removed 10 degenerate triangles --------- Game Map Shutdown ---------- WARNING:Door atdm_mover_door_2 is not within a valid AAS area ModelGenerator memory: No LOD entries. --------- Game Map Shutdown done ----- ERROR:idSoundCache Load: error 40963 loading data into OpenAL hardware buffer -------------------------------------- WARNING:idSession: triggering mainmenu watchdog I'm going to guess that I've gotta install some more runtimes to get it working. Anyone have any clues? Oh, and the install directory is C:\Games\darkmod, so no issues with spaces, and I'm running 2.01 so it supposedly fixed the bug where I needed to run it as c:\darkmod...

Not Even Doom Music can make working with patches less awful.

If Doom music is not enough, you can amp it up with Brutal Doom music:

Brutal Doom music *is* awesome, but NEDM is a meme, basically "even the coolest thing ever can't make what I'm doing right now less sucky".

  15. Consider the following. You have a mobile device with two physically separate disks. There's the internal NAND, and the SD card. When the device is powered on, it builds a database of all of the files on both of these drives so that files can be found quickly. Thing is though, it does this even if no changes have been made to the drives since the last power off, wasting loads of battery power and causing UI lag... and it does this at EVERY boot! Proposed solution: When the device is instructed to power off, it creates a file on the drive with a timestamp, and then immediately unmounts the file system. Then when you turn it on again, the device copies the last modification time of the file systems on the drives into memory. Then it actually mounts the file system and compares the date in memory to the timestamped file I mentioned above. If they are within a couple of seconds of each other, no external changes have been made to the drive and it is not necessary to rebuild the entire database from scratch. However, if they are out of sync, that indicates that somebody hooked the SD card to another machine, meaning the database needs rebuilt. Why is something this simple not implemented? I'm not even an engineer and stuff like this seems so logical.
  16. Firefox will no longer download .pk4 files. It just goes to the page and shows a load of junk. IE will get them for me. (first time I've used it in years.) Any suggestions anyone?
  17. Just a heads up that the header images are now missing from the top of the forum. I suspect due to domain forwarding or something like that?

Have I been hacked or is the site being rebuilt or hacked?
  19. Ok I'm at the library using up their bandwidth to download this mod. I am using tdm_updater to download the mod and so far only 4 out of 62 files have downloaded. I am getting a little hungry and I would like to get something to eat... Would I be able to close the download and resume it later on or would it start all over again? Don't suggest using bit torrent since it won't work in the library, thanks in advance!
  20. Just wanted to say, Hello! From reading through various posts in the forums it seems like a great community and I hope to become a part of it. So I got the hankering for some Thief as of late and stumbled on TDM through some googling. After purchasing Doom 3 through Steam and instaling TDM, I have been nostalgiacly playing through many of the FMs and have also decided to d/l the Radiant editor and start making a mission, maybe many, we'll see. As it turns out also, I just started (today!) my 1 week vacation from work and intend to dive in to the Radiant editor and am currently going through the A-Z wiki on it. A bit of background on me, I 'used' to work in application support till the economic crash a couple years ago and was laid off and am now running a machining center at a local machine shop, using Mastercam daily, 2D/3D stuff and have always wanted to make a mission/game, and decided since I've always enjoyed the Thief series and stealth gameplay so much, this is where I would start. After getting to my third year in Mechanical Technology I changed my major to Information Technology (should have went with straight Computer Science but ahhh hindsight). I've always loved building things and designing things and also really enjoy computers, art, audio, and the entire visual experience as presented to a user. I have created a couple playable maps before using the older source engine editor so I'm vaguely familiar with 3D modeling, skyboxes, lighting, AI pathing, etc. That's been over 10 years ago though. I got familiar with 3dsmax, ProE, Autocad, and Mastercam in my first major during school so that helps a bit when familiarizing with a new editor and as previously mentioned I've dabbled around in the Valve Source editor. I'm also very much looking forward to the Crucible of Omens campaign created by the marvelous talent at TDM and would like to help in any way I can once I'm familiar with the Radiant engine. I can also do many many voices, I've often thought about moving out to Cali from Indiana and finding work in voice-overs, voice acting, etc. All this started as a youngster with little friends, time on my hands, and imaginary friends. Wow that's hard to admit. So anyway, I've been working on a shadowy Garrett voice, and can do guards and some women characters with old, old english, gruff, slippery, sneaky, terrifying, voices and personalities. Just thought I'd mention that as it may be a way that I could contribute early on and would also enjoy. So anyway, too much about me and not enough A-Z wiki, back to the tutorial! Glad to be here and hope for good things to come.
