  1. I just downloaded the latest beta version of the Dark Mod right now and by starting this specific FM: Iris, I get this black screen with the music and ambient sounds in the background, but no picture showing. I was only able to get to the mission briefing page showing the objectives of the mission and then by clicking on "Objectives" It takes me to a black screen. What is causing this issue? My other fan missions work just fine, I tested out other ones, so it's not my game. Could be this is a broken fan mission?
  2. Evenin, Taffers! My FM for the Grand Christmas FM Contest, Business as Usual... updated 16-01-10 (fixed all of the minor errors people were having) "Got a new place in the old quarter, but as the saying goes 'the more things change the more they stay the same..." "...Tiss the holiday season and the first snows are upon us, bah bloody humbug. As usual there is a local thief who needs taking down a peg or two and some noble boasting about his wealth down the local tavern. Thankfully this part of town is free from the likes of the Builders, but my 'old friends' the Guardians are as usual keeping an eye on things..." Download links: filefront Build Time: 5 weeks, starting December 13th. Thanks:- Huge respect to the Dark Mod team for such a great mod and for all the hard work they put into it and continue to put into it. Special thanks to Fidcal, Serpentine and others for their help on the forums and to my beta testers: Serpentine, 7upMan, StiFuNelson, FFox, Acolyte, Chiron and others who did an awesome job. Known issues:- # This mission will have less than optimal fps at a few points on the map. # Enabling bloom on low end PCs will drop off 5-10fps # On low end PCs I recommend, V-sync is off, AA is off, Aniso is 4x or lower. # Additionally, on low end PCs you may have to disable player shadow - bring up the cmd line in tdm (ctrl-alt-`) and then type the following line ' g_showPlayerShadow 0 '
  3. Intro: Back among these old walls again, it seems. The alleyways and courts beckon, the smells and flickering lights the same as ever. Have I been away so little that I remember them all? No matter. This time, my objective once more brings me to the Builders: one of their workshops has recently received a shipment of potent explosives... Although inert before it is treated with a volatile compound, there is bound to be a mechanician who will pay a good price for the lot. That settles my agenda for the night. I must be careful, since the Builders aren't known to be lenient with trespassers... and if they knew it was the same fellow who had already paid them a visit... but best not dwell on trivialities. I have found a way to the street where the storehouse is located, and hid myself next to the south gate. If I am unable to open it from inside when I am done, I may just have to find another way out. It is an hour before midnight. Time to go.." Build Time: 3 months. Thanks:- Huge respect to the Dark Mod team for such a great mod and for all the hard work they put into it and continue to put into it. Special thanks to Fidcal, Serpentine and others for their help on the forums. Melan for making the original map and puttin up with my constant tweaking, the beta testers: Serps, Grayman, nbohr1more, , NewHorizon, 7upMan and others who did an awesome job. Info # Please download TDM 1.04 before playing this FM, as a lot of 1.04 textures have been used! # On very low end PC's with a "Pentium"4 or "HD2400pro" that are even considered low for vanilla Doom3, I recommend that V-sync is off, AA is off, Aniso is 4x or lower and "Ambient rendering" & "interaction shader" are set to their lowest settings. Also playing any tdm mission I suggest you do a fresh reboot of windows, this will flush the ram which enables a few extra fps in tdm. Enjoy
  4. If I try to select a mission in the Mission pulldown selector in the Game Setup dialog, the list is not sorted alphabetically. As stated, this is DR 3.7 in Linux.
  5. The Tears of St. Lucia was our second "alpha demo", released in 2008. It has been updated and is now playable using TDM 1.00. If you have played the map before, you won't find anything new--entities have been updated (like candles) but the map and gameplay have not been altered. Those of you who didn't get a chance to play it before are in for a treat, however. http://www.mindplaces.com/darkmod/fmdetails.php?id=15
  6. The newest fan mission titled "Down and out on Newford Road" doesn't want to install because I get an error message saying, "Cannot install this mission, as it requires The Dark Mod v.210. Well, there's a problem, version 210 doesn't even exist yet, so how can I update my game if that version hasn't been released yet?!?!? The current version is still version 2.09. I need help with this issue please, thank you!
  7. Penny Dreadful is a fan mission series dealing with the exploits and misfortunes of Gerald Foxley, lowlife and common opportunist. To stick with the theme of lurid and disreputable pulp literature, these missions are planned to be nasty, brutish and short (more or less). They also allow me to experiment with gameplay ideas which do not fit TDM standards. In the first episode, The Grail of Regrets, what started out as a routine case of extortion ended with Gerald in the possession of the eponymous Grail. In the second, we will quickly learn that his newfound fortunes would be even shorter than anticipated... All the Way Up "Some say sudden wealth is a blessing, but those people are suckers. Me, I am the more careful kind. So when it turned out The Grail of Regrets, this sinister relic I dug up from a long-forgotten undercellar, brought in an unexpected number of the rich and influential, I knew my only course of action was to sell, and do it quickly. My best offer came from Archibald Flint, the boss of Fiddler's Hill and its merry men: one of the bigger names in the business, and as they say, the occult. Not that I would say no: if a man like him wants something, an independent can only hold out so long as he has contacts left - or fingers. Trouble is, someone else also wanted to do him a favour... On my way to Fiddler's Hill, I took a shortcut through Willett's Bridge, an antique thoroughfare bypassing some of the slums I wanted to avoid. The place enjoys a bad reputation - high tolls, confiscated cargo, and a series of gruesome accidents. Not the best place to be seen carrying a precious relic, but when you are in a hurry it is easy to make mistakes. The ramshackle mansion above belongs to a man named Messer Montrose, a factor who lords over the place with a group of thugs, and whose contacts with the Bailiff of the nearby jail has made him above the law. His men were waiting for me high above the city, and after a savage beating, threw me over the bridge down into the muddy streets. And so..." Download links: MEGA (43 MB) ...and the mission downloader! ***Performance warning***:due to its construction, this mission's hardware requirements exceed the TDM baseline. The mission has been tested on a variety of configurations, and generally produces acceptable frame rates on contemporary or slightly out of date hardware. Some older PCs may experience significant slowdowns in the open areas, which may render the mission unplayable for some people. I offer my apologies for this inconvenience -- optimalisation should be credited to Bikerdude, while the remaining problems are all mine. You will need TDM 2.02 to play this mission. Notes: There are multiple ways to accomplish your objectives, and even more to explore the mission - although some are less obvious than others. There are no lockpicks in this mission, as Foxley can't use them; also, he is no master thief when it comes to stealth - be careful! Brute force, if necessary, is legitimate. There is no poll to rate the mission because I do not believe in them. Your comments are welcome in writing, however! You can find my concept art in the PK4 file. These images obviously contain heavy spoilers. This mission series predates, and is thus unrelated to the Penny Dreadful TV series.Special thanks: to my testers; Airship Ballet, AluminumHaste, Lux, Obsttorte, Premier, Skacky and Xarg for detailed and thorough feedback, which has been invaluable. Springheel for the custom GUI and loading screen, RJFerret for help with objectives, Goldchocobo & Co. for voice acting, Grayman for gib generation and, last but not least, the Canon Texture Project for various canonical textures. 1.1 update note: This mission has been released in an updated version. This update contains a number of small bugfixes, it adds slightly more equipment on lower difficulties, and cuts down on file size by removing duplicate assets which have been incorporated into the TDM core since the mission's release (43 instead of 102 MB!). Thanks are due to my testers, Bikerdude, lowenz, nbohr1more and Oldjim.
  8. A Special Delivery is a very small warehouse & factory Dark Mod FM. In this fun little mission you have to find a valuable diamond. Enjoy! DOWNLOAD HERE. (2MB)
  9. My timing was off on this one. Work on beta-testing is much more needed elsewhere as there are several missions for the contest alone. So I apologize.
  10. Story: "Sir Barrington, as he likes to be known, enjoys a prestigious reputation of having lavish yet intimate dinner parties. I've heard the tales about what goes on in the noble's dining room, but I believed none of them 'till now. Orbach, a local shop-keep who makes special deliveries to the people of 'high stature' heard Sir Henry Hughbellow raving about Sir Barrington's special 'Elixir', It cures your ails and gives you vigor... By the Hammer, it extends your very life! he exclaimed. Orbach begged Sir Henry for a small sample, and after one sip he was sure that the potion was nothing more than mineral water and spirit. He asked Sir Henry if other folks were as fond of the elixir as he was, and he found out that folks are paying handsomely for these small vials on a weekly basis. Some lords pay for exclusive treatments and bathe in the tonic. Lord Barrington even brings in an occult expert every month, where supposedly the power of the elixir is renewed by the full moon. Never one to pass up the opportunity for a good scam, Orbach has decided to take a cut of this 'elixir' business. He has made an elixir of his own, but needs to convince Sir Henry that it's really the same as the 'magical' tonic that Lord Barrington has been selling. And that's where I come in. Its rumered that Sir Barrington's prized possession is a painting of the revolutionary inventor 'Guillermo de Sohase' the day after he won the Battle of Billinsdune. If I can steal this painting, Orbach can use it to 'prove' that he also got the elixir from Sir Barrington. Once Sir Henry tells all his friends that Orbach's stolen elixir is healing his heart, soothing his pains, and igniting his libido, they'll be lining up at his shop. Its time to go." Build Time: Version 1.0 was speed build of sorts, to build upon Springheels video's with the new modules. Took roughly 20hrs to build but this ended up happening over the space of a few months.http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/18808-bikerdudes-speedish-build-using-the-new-modules/?hl=%2Bspeed+%2BbuildThanks: Co-auther: Obstortte for all his custom entities, scripting and showing me a thing or two about perfing.Resource: Springheel - new modulesReadables: nbhor1moreTesters: Bienie, Judith, Abusimplea, Cambridge Spy, Gerberox, MayheM, Amadeus, Goldwell, nbhor1more.Download: - mega Info: Repeat after me, "Read and explore, Read and explore"Known issues: This mission has been heavily tweaked and worked on to provide a playable experience for even low end machines. For very low end PC's please make use of the in-game LOD slider, as not only are details reduced, but the ambient_world fog is removed at the lowest setting. The medium difficulty is partially broken, the mission wont end when the player gets to the exit location. As this is the only issue with that difficulty level, I will fix this when I next update it to include the intro.
  11. I'd like a place to start collecting links to off-site reviews and mission walkthroughs. People can also post full reviews of missions here.
  12. Mission Name: A Night Of Loot: One Man's Treasure Author: OGDA Build time: 1 month Version: 1.00 Released: 13.06.2020 Type: Shop/House Size: Small Completion time: 30 to 45 minutes Difficulty settings: Higher difficulties require you to find more loot. I've been toying with dark radiant for some time before, but wanted to get something out, so I kept it small. CREDITS go to: Sotha for his Bakery Job Tutorials and Inspiration Acolytesix, Bienie, Cambridge Spy, joebarnin, manzanita-crow and nbohr1more for beta testing and help with improvements Link to the original beta test thread: Warning, heavy spoilers!
  13. You can get this FM on our downloads page: http://www.thedarkmo...ondetails/?id=1 I guess it's a rather easy missions for players used to Thief Fan Missions, but feel free to post here in case you're stuck. Angua and me, we are humbled that this small map made it out of the door, accompanying the TDM 1.00 release. edit: poll added November 11th, 2011
  14. Since Aluminum directed me here ( https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/9082-newbie-darkradiant-questions/page/437/#comment-475263 ) can we have unlimited renderer effects? Well, maybe not unlimited, by maybe 3-5? Thanks.

Since I wasn't the one mainly asking, I'll just cite you in the original thread instead.

There already is a kind of sorting, sort nearest, sort decal, sort <n>. For things like windows and such, sort nearest should probably have the desirable affect, though looking through multiple translucent shaders might kill performance.

    4. Nort

Is having multiple render effects really killing performance that badly? I don't understand. You're saying that if I have two transparent objects side-by-side, then they'll just count as two render effects, but when combined, they somehow become something much more difficult to render?

Never-the-less, unless we're talking some kind of infinite portal problem, why not let the mapper choose how much he wants to kill performance? Just warn him against putting too many effects close together.

  15. Story: Build Time: Thanks: Download: Available in the in-game downloader, or at any of these below locations: Gallery: Hints, Tips, Walkthroughs, Spoilers(!): Disclaimers, Player Information. Thank you for playing, and a Merry Christmas to all! What did you think of the mission? I look forward to your honest feedback!
  16. Figured I'd ask about this here before posting on the bug tracker, there might be a reason why it hasn't been done yet. Let me explain my reasoning first: When creators are working on multiple FM's at once, each one will obviously be located in its own directory. Most FM's contain custom assets and definitions, when working with maps in DarkRadiant you need to select their data folder for additional defs. This is done by going to File - Game / Project Setup - Mission and selecting it there. The issue: Let's say you want to take a break from one FM and work on another. Each time you load a map from a different FM, you also need to go to that menu and select it from there, otherwise custom assets won't be detected and appear as missing in DR. This is quite a bit of an annoyance. Suggestion: Is it not possible to detect and automatically select the active mission from the path the map is located in? We know every map should be located in "darkmod/fms/name/maps", so why not automatically extract the maps directory and set that to "darkmod/fms/name"? If there's an issue with getting such detection right, we can at worst simply store this information in the map.darkradiant file, so even if the player needs to first select it manually the choice is remembered per map and automatically reverted when you load it. We could technically do this with the other settings in that menu, such as Game Type and Darkmod Path. Not sure how much we need it for those unless someone is working with multiple installs and wants the convenience. Sounds good if doable but the important one is the mission directory as that must always be changed with the map you're editing.
  17. Hey guys, relatively new to the community here but I've been enjoying TDM for a few years now. I'm making my way through the backlog but it seems like you beautiful geniuses never quit! There's so many missions, and many of them are exceptional. I don't have time to go through them all and searching "Best Dark Mod missions" in google shows me results from 5 to 10 years ago. A lot of good stuff has come out since then so I was wondering - what are the best missions of the last 10 years? I'll give my favorites thus far. I'm a sucker for classic mission design and visual polish keep in mind - Sir Talbot's Collateral The Painter's Wife Iris Behind Closed Doors Written In Stone What are your favs of the last decade? The more replies the better, could use some solid data.
  18. So, here is the first map (Great Christmas Contest) I have ever created. It was not easy but I had fun making it. About: You have to break into a mansion and find the "special delivery" Buildtime: less then 2 months Version (1.01): (2012/01/10) http://www.thedarkmo...ndetails/?id=11 (English version 1.02 will be out soon) Small changes, mostly to make it 1.07 compatible. If you have played it already you wont see anything new. Get the German Version (1.02) here!
  19. Hi all, I`ll post my v1.0 mission here in this post and if it gets updated the link will be updated. The mission is a simple one and my first following the Fidcal tutorials online and a lot of assistance and help from the forum users, Thanks to you all. The player comes into the possession of a note that can be used to incriminate another but also contains information about an item of value and possible leads to old order secrets that where never really known outside of the order. Release date: 2013/07/22 By tr00pertj Big thanks to: Fidcal for his thiefs_den mission and tutorials, Obsttorte, Springheel, Melan & Lux for beta testing, advice and readable corrections, Bikerdude for the earlyuse of his fixed models & ERH+ for advice & help. 20. A small "Thieves' Guild" map. Original Map by Silencium Additional Mapping by RailGun and Fidcal Story by Springheel Briefing: Infiltrate a local gang of independents and remove their leader. http://www.mediafire.com/file/znjlj2nizhg/thieves.pk4 http://www.southquarter.com/downloads/thieves.pk4
  21. I can't recall ever playing any TDM maps with it... (e.g. literal event that Happens at 2:59 AM ... not '5 minute delay') Such as; Guard shift changes Clock-controlled locks / safes Other events (informant meetings, witching hours, high-noon duels, street lights, shops open/close...) Requires: Pocket Watches Church / Town clock with Chimes or Bells Grandfather clocks (working hands / hour chimes) Wall clocks (electric or mechanical) New things to see and do; Ability to READ time (by fob-ing, tool use ) Lootable Pocket watches, Fob-watches, other portable time-pieces [usable as a tool once acquired ] Easy / Hard mode variations... 'Easy': start with a pilfered pocket-watch in your inventory and 10 minutes to spare... 'Hard': start with *BRONG* ... *BRONG* a time deficit?! TIME TO DASH FOR IT! Seems odd - that the ever desirable time-piece isn't even present as simple loot...either.
  22. My speedbuild mission is complete, and should be available in the mission downloader. For those who haven't watched the series, I was originally challenging myself to see if I could create a decent "Too Late" style mission in under 4 hours. While I didn't manage that, I did stay under a 6 hour build time, which still demonstrates that you don't have to devote months of your life to creating fun TDM missions, especially by using my new modules and prefabs. In this mission, Corbin sets out to steal a rival gang's loot before they are raided by the city watch. Be aware that the mission is fairly challenging on Expert. Thanks to Oldjim, MayheM and Xarg for beta-testing. You can watch the creation of this map here: http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/18761-springheels-4-hour-challenge/ A playthrough, with final comments, is here:
  23. Just finished mission 1 30g short so wondering what I missed, and whether anyones made a loot list for each mission? Also, are there any missions that take part inside the old underground city? That one was my favourite in Thief. Cheers!
  24. This is the mission I built to learn DR (with some lengthy gaps when Life intervened), and naturally has much in it I'd do differently now. As a starter mission it's fairly simple (manor house; object to steal; locked door; shiny things) and of moderate size, though the evidence from beta testing is that your mileage may vary on that point. Just completing the mission requires one unconcealed key and is mostly about working out where to go. If you want to get all the loot, it's assumed you enjoy hunting high and low for trinkets. And keys. And clues about the first two.The grounds/exterior and the chapel may be somewhat taxing performance-wise.Paintings galore: none of them loot. Don't bother checking.Every mansion needs at least one Dark Secret, but there's no special reward or objective for piecing fragments together, and some strands are left deliberately dangling...If you can't bear even two seconds (precisely) of undead, stay out of Thanks to all the people whose assets, test reports and/or advice in NDRQs went into this.
