Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

OK, looks like the button is supposed to evenly spread the pixel density of the texture across the selected surface tris so that the UV range is from 0 to 1. https://help.autodesk.com/view/MAYAUL/2022/ENU/?guid=GUID-3FDE8873-2169-412F-9A07-26F44E52C5DD

That's what I'd normally understand by "normalise", but that's not what the button does (you can achieve that effect using the Fit button with values of 1.0 and 1.0). It seems that Normalise is designed to take an extreme offset like 250% and reduce it to a corresponding smaller value like 50% without changing the visual appearance. But I'm not sure when you'd need to do that or how you would end up with such an extreme offset in the first place (the Surface Inspector wraps the offset value if you move past one texture width).

I've never understood what it's for either. Are there people in the D3 community who'd know that you can ask?

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Sorry, my bad. No idea how that happened.

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?

Maybe it's because 2 of the 4 were actually from the 4th of Januari while the other 2 were released on the first of april.

Finally got my PC back from the shop after my SSD got corrupted a week ago and damaged my motherboard. Scary stuff, but thank goodness it happened right after two months of FM development instead of wiping all my work before I could release it. New SSD, repaired Motherboard and BIOS, and we're ready to start working on my second FM with some added version control in the cloud just to be safe!

Wait, how can a SSD corrupt and damage a motherboard? I gotta know so I can avoid it.

@The Black ArrowWish I could tell ya, but unless I decide to ship it off to a data recovery company to interrogate it further, I'm not going to be able to figure out how it got corrupted or why it was as catastrophic as it was for the rest of the system. All I know is that even when I removed my old SSD to boot from my backup HDD, parts of my bios, partitions, and even some parts of the built-in recovery options weren't functional. It wouldn't even let me boot from my trusty USB repair media! I don't think it was a virus or anything, the repair shop I went to has apparently seen something similar four times in the last two years with Samsung's 970 series, but whether that's a genuine issue or a coincidence is anyone's guess.
-
Okay, that's very scary now...I really hope it was a coincidence because I also have one Samsung 970 and I don't ever want anything bad to happen to it, I think I've had it since 3 years now as well.

I've updated the articles for your FMs and your author category at the wiki. Your newer nickname (DeTeEff) now comes first, and the one in parentheses is your older nickname (Fieldmedic). Just to avoid confusing people who played your FMs years ago and remember your older nickname. I've added a wiki article for your latest FM, Who Watches the Watcher?, as part of my current updating efforts. Unless I overlooked something, you have five different FMs so far.

I've finally managed to log in to The Dark Mod Wiki. I'm back in the saddle and before the holidays start in full, I'll be adding a few new FM articles and doing other updates. Written in Stone is already done.

Sorry about that. You are right, I spotted it myself to be slightly harsh, but didn't change it.. Thanks for the feedback on that and for your help on the wiki.

Righto. I need to update a fair few things regarding the FM articles (including some of the older links) so I'll have plenty of work with this in the weeks ahead.

Nice work Taffer. What articles have you done the most on so far? >
-
I like the new frob highlight but it would nice if it was less "flickery" while moving over objects (especially barred metal doors).

New for me, but I don't think it's that new in development terms. I just haven't updated my SVN for a while.
-
Do you mean the frob outline?
-
Yes, the white outline which appears around the frobbed object.

Should someone post something on https://www.ttlg.com/forums/ ? Especially since this release brings features Thief players might be happy with.

Thanks for all your work. 2.12 is great. Especially the one click shouldering of bodies is a HUGE improvement.

Thanks for all the hard work guys. Playing this game since the early versions and wow - so much has changed to the positive!

I was playing Skyrim, got bored fast. Got back to The Dark Mod just for one mission, played "Somewhere above the City" which is not really a great mission but still good, as in above-average.
My biggest regret is living in this country, where there's a heat wave, I am sweating at 20c and I really wish for temperatures below 5c.

Interestingly, the Bethesda games sell well, and still earn a lot of shit storm.
But then, that isn't exactly rare these days either, with all the envy.
I also have a lot to criticize with them, but, I wouldn't smash them for it. They're just AAA games for nowadays audience. That audience likes repetitive and boring graphics demos.

Isn't just number of sails? I mean if 10 milion peeps buy the game and 1000 people complain, this looks like a lot, but not in comparison.
If 30 people on the forum don't agree something will not get implemented.

Is there something wrong with the forums lately, or is it my browser? I've been having trouble formatting posts, and just now I couldn't format anything at all.
I'm using Vivaldi.
Usually I have to: select text, click bold, nothing happens, select again, click bold, then it works.
Same for other stuff, like creating spoilers, bullet points, links. Nothing works the first time.
-
I have no problem. I use Firefox. @Zerg Rush also uses Vivaldi. Have you tried without extensions, or in another browser?
(btw. bold, italic and underline have shortcut keys: Ctrl B, Ctrl I and Ctrl U, you could try that)

Whenever I eat fried chicken these days I think of this scene in The Black Mage..
-
Incidentally, it's not entirely mine, I spun it together from quotes from a movie and a book and then integrated it into a setting that fits the Dark Mod.
