  1. I assume thus must have been discussed before, what was the outcome? Is it as simple as saving in a better or other file format, that wont have any adverse effects? The DDS folder uncompressed sits at 1GB and the Textures folder is at 1.9GB and the models folder Im guessing at around 500mb.

I suppose making a campaign as an individual and building for Thief Gold go hand & hand. You need to be pretty obsessed to do either. XD

I'm just very happy to see how much work still goes on with the original Thief games. Good mods = long life after release!

  5. As fan missions have become their own thing somewhere around 2003-2004, they started to develop their own design standards, many of them subtly different from the original games. This is fine, but sometimes, you have to go back to the roots and see how they did things. Here are a few impressions about the original, pre-Gold Thief based on my recent end-of-the-year replay, which I have found insightful as a fan mission author: Loot placement: Loot amounts are fairly conservative. The 2-3000 you can find is usually all over a huge, sprawling mission, often hidden in challenging locations, some very obscure (I have found loot on this playthrough I never discovered before). There is little "trash loot", like random little coin stacks you have to sweep up from five cupboards and chests. The pieces you find are usually impressive on their own. Hidden loot involves interesting gameplay, from climbing to spotting things against a busy background texture to the proverbial nooks and crannies - but almost always, placed intelligently to form mini-puzzles.Focused readables: very few readables are longer than three or four pages. Most are one or two, and communicate their ideas efficiently, although also with great flavour. No audiolog syndrome is present.Formal variety: architecture, although extremely low-detail by modern standards, is full of interesting experiments. Realism takes a backseat to things like the Bonehoard's multi-leveled 3d maze, Escape's crisscrossing tunnels, or the mind-melting Sara Verrilli levels (The Sword, Strange Bedfellows, The Maw of Chaos). But even a comparatively mundane mission like Bafford is full of intriguing non-cubical places, or cubes broken up into smaller discrete areas. As a result, there is little repetition, and mission areas are distinct and identifiable, with bold shapes to compensate for the lack of detail. The environments are often suggestive or even symbolic instead of descriptive. In The Haunted Cathedral (the sealed quarter), most houses are just odd shapes that suggest crumbling architecture without going into the details.Heavy guard: some areas are guarded so heavily that getting through is simply not a sane option. Bafford's front door is not only lit up like a Christmas tree and guarded by a guards/archer combo, it then opens into a murder gallery that'll alert the whole house if you manage to get in somehow.Varied thievery: the game tries to offer objectives going beyond stealing and hiding in the shadows. You break people out of a prison, leave coins on a grave out of superstition, have to hightail it to your home turf to avoid getting caught, and infiltrate the Hammerite church in the clothes of a novice. At one time, you have to manufacture stuff in a foundry. The missions play differently not just because of their environments, but because they encompass a much broader range of thievy activities than we tend to get from fan missions.Fantasy: there are bold detours from gritty steampunk "realism" into Lewis Carrol-on-acid fantasy landscapes. But even the less fantastic missions have an element of whimsy. Ramirez has a burrick pen under his house. The Hammerite prison is built atop haunted mines and a factory. There are a lot of interesting, odd beasts in the missions!Garrett is not yet a master thief. He is an aspiring thief who starts to gain a reputation through the game, attracting increasingly more dangerous enemies and clients, but he is not yet a legendary figure. There is an element of uncertainty, and you are constantly made aware that only player skill can compensate for Garrett's vulnerabilities. Your victories are hard-won, and feel earned. There is a constant element of exploiting loopholes, not just sneaking in and getting out.

  6. I'm wondering if anyone ever checks new posts in the Fan Missions Forums? I've posted 4 questions asking for help for 4 different missions that I can't finish because I"m stuck, and I don't get any help. I posted a question this morning so I don't expect an answer right away for that one. Its frustrating because I would like to finish them. I've read through the posts for each mission and I'm not getting anything from them. If there's someone who could help me I'd really appreciate it. Thanks I guess I'm spoiled from the TTLG forums.

  8. Hi all, me again Now that I've learned how to take screenies on DM (thanks to Aluminumhaste) I wanted to post one that I took but I got an error saying that the image ext that I used was not allowed in these forums, It was .jpg so I changed it to .png and I got the same error again. They're on Photobucket.
  9. Some of us are looking for a coder for a Thief project. A guy named Tos released the sourcecode for his multiplayer version of Thief2. The catch is it's not currently compatible with New Dark. Can any of you think of any coder & Thief fan that might be interested in trying to get it to be at least compatible?

I wished for this to happen since he abandoned his own project and hoped this will becme true since New Dark came out. Sadly I can't do coding. :( Good luck with this VIP (very important project :)

  11. OK, I see Moddb did the favor of mirroring our project to IndieDB: http://www.indiedb.com/mods/the-dark-mod less confusion now...

  12. Afternoon Got a WIP that Ive been working on for a while now, the mission consists of work done by a few big names (Melan, Skacky, Fidcal, Flanders and Tels). People will have seen some WIP screenshots in the "what are you working on thread" - http://forums.thedar...post__p__337060 (and some examples below) The mission requires the last section to be built, in this case a city based castle. I have already built the front and parts of the inside but I lost inspiration a while back. I would like help from an experienced mapper with a mission or two already under their belt.
  13. Personally I think this is the worst idea ever. The Reason forums has LOADS of info and knowledge, built up through years and years. I'm really sad to see it go away, and I can't understand why they've made this decision. https://www.propellerheads.se/forum/showthread.php?p=1579099#poststop
  14. Thought this might interest some of you here - there's a PnP RPG on Kickstarter right now called Project Dark that's supposedly able to closely emulate stealth games. Other things of note: - Card-based mechanics in combination with dice - Optimised for 1-2 player-characters Also based on a brief exchange, it seems the developer's a fan of PC stealth games like Thief. Project looks pretty cool overall, and although I haven't played any games that use cards for conflict resolution, the pitch has me intrigued, if only because running a game set in the Thief world sounds awesome. Too bad existing backers won't get a copy of the rules until March Edit - oh yeah, link here:
  15. Hi there most respected taffers, I'm working on my 5 missions long campaign for TDM and need some help. The problem is, I don't have enough time to build huge and detailed maps, figure out the scripting issues, etc. That's why I need YOU (original TDM developers would be very appreciated) to join me and create one of the best campaigns ever! Trust me, everything is ready to go. Story, characters, sounds, voices, briefing videos, musics, etc. I'm working on this since 2009. Actually I have five 'jobs' to offer: Mission 2 - This is a city-like mission, but the main events take place inside a large building. Mission 3 - Starting in the hills, then break into a huge, elven mansion. Mission 4 - This is a cave-like mission. Additional designer - I create the first and last maps for the campaign, but if I cannot figure out something, I need someone to build / script it for me. Language supervisor - My english is far from perfect so I need someone to check my translations. I will definitely need the help of TDM developers for some of the guards' voice actings. So feel free to respond and apply! Thank you everyone! Best wishes, Oszkár Winkler (from Hungary)
  16. Before I move my project from Alpha into Beta I wanted to have a (preferably experienced) mapper go through and point out any obvious wrong doings. I wont be ready to send out the map for a couple of weeks so this is just more so to see if anyone is interested.

I've been considering reinstalling TDS for a wile now... I've still got my original CDs. Have these guys fixed the bug where you get stuck floating? Last time I played TDS, that happened and I was unable to get out of it, so I ragequit.

    3. chakkman

      chakkman

You can surpass that bug by drawing your bow, performing a shot, and draw your blackjack when the bow is tensioned, to abort the bow shot. I'm hoping it's fixed in the Gold patch too though. Alongside the thing where you move sideways, when peeking left or right.

      @Biker Hmm.

      Build TDM mission in DR.

      Export as portions as ASE

Edit in Blender and export in TDS compatible format

      Import into T3ED

      Edit

      Release TDS mission...

      (or just stick with TDM)
