Just finished playing this morning, this was awesome, in an old skewl way - would love to make a TDM homage to it...

I'm using the CD with TG, T2 and T3 on it. Darkloader doesn't like it. I can't get TG FMs to work

I assume it works with a TG only CD

  3. I had a number of readables before the Readable Editor came out in 1.2.0. The Editor read them just fine, and I could change them, but I had a problem in that no text was displayed in the preview window. I assume this is the bug that was fixed in 1.2.1. However, when I bring up the 1.2.1 Editor on an existing readable, DR crashes. I tried it with two different readables; one I created prior to 1.2.0 and one I created using 1.2.0. Both crashed while trying to paint the Editor window. I tried to create a new readable using 1.2.1, and got as far as typing in the text. At the first character, DR crashed. So I assume the crash is related to displaying text in the text field (not in the Preview window). Anyone else having this problem? Thanks.

  5. I'm getting a problem that sheet paper with carolingia font is showing blank in game. It seems the editor is forcing this to be two-sided when it is only one-sided even if I use the radio button to try to change it. In the xdata it is putting the blanks in for the right side so this is what is stopping it showing anything. If I manually delete that then it is OK. So how does the editor determine which is one and which is two-sided? Only books are two sided. Sheets and scrolls are all one-sided. Presumably it must deduce which from the gui. But some sheets are OK so I don't know why carolingia is different. The gui looks OK although I've not compared it with others. As I recall I would have cloned all the guis when I made these and just changed the font and font sizes etc.
  6. Noticed the Readables Editor in the latest version.... this can't be used to view regular Doom3 GUI's, can it? I tried to just go into the editor, but no luck.... maybe I'm doing something wrong, or maybe it just won't work...
  7. I want to use the new Readables Objective feature (thanks for that!) to set a new objective once a letter has been read. Maybe I'm doing this wrong, but . . . 1. Bring up the Objectives Editor. 2. Add a new objective. 3. Edit it. 4. Change its description. 5. Uncheck "Visible". 6. Add a component and edit it. 7. Select "Readable is closed" from the type list. At this point, I get an error window that says "Exception occurred: SpecifierType not found." Hit the window's Close button and another window comes up: "Runtime Error". Hit the window's OK button and another window comes up: "unknown software exception". Hit the window's OK button and DR dies. Am I doing something wrong?
  8. I miss the brown borders dividing up the sub forums. This great big block of grey looks ugly.

  9. So... What was up with the forums all day yesterday..?
  10. Sorry, guys... I'm totaly new in map-design. 1. I created entity: Darkmode/Readables/atdm:readable_mobile_scroll 2. Added Property: xdata_contents with value wolfnote1 3. Created folder xdata in maps folder 4. Created file dayofwolf.xd : wolfnote1 { precache "num_pages": "1" "page1_body" : { "Test" } } Map compilated succesfully; scroll can be taken, but can't be read... WYSIWYG editor also not starting. Says: "Cannot run Readable Editor on this selection. Please select a single XData entity." What I'm doing wrong? Sorry again for poor English.
  11. Hi, could someone help me correct my readables? They are basicly finished but need correction because i am still doing hard with writing english. If you have time and the mood please sign here or pm me. After that is finished i need 2 beta testers, again pm or tell me here if you are interested. thanks sono
  12. Welcome to the Dark Mod forums! I enjoyed browsing your gallery. =-)

  13. I don't recall any fan missions doing this, so I'm asking here. I want to add an objective after the player reads a readable. I can't find anything in the wiki about this. I can activate a script when the readable is frobbed, but I don't know how to recognize the moment when the player turns away and the readable is dropped, which is when I want to add an objective. How do I do this? If there's a fan mission that does do this, just point me to it. Thanks.
  14. Hello!

I saw on TDM forums that you are a very talented level designer. Could you lend your talents for The Sly Project? (http://tsp.comlu.com)

We have no level designers yet and the project was announced almost a year ago. Please join us! I'm looking forward to your answer friend.

    Best wishes: Oszkár Winkler

  15. Hello!

You mentioned on TDM forums that you are a skilled modeler. Could you lend your talents for The Sly Project? (http://tsp.comlu.com) There are only a few models we need.

If you are interested, please e-mail me: woszkar@gmail.com

    Thank you! :)

  16. [update] Spoke to Marcus @AMD UK on the phone and as it turns out a number of complaints have been made against "Spyre". My AMD forum account has been unbarred and my Ip address unblocked!!! Bought a new gfx card for xmas, been having issues with mainly the driver So I though a good place to look for support and polity vent etc - or so I thought My second post got flamed by some smart arse fanboy and then promptly locked, to which I reported the posted asking why it had been locked.. and then my account on there got deleted and my Ip blocked (untill the isp dhcp refreshed etc) so I cant login even with a different account name. I have emailed AMD directly about this as I did nothing wrong according the t&c's and I got no warning Pm or email from the forum mods. Now I've been over at the nVidia forums a long while back when I had the 8800GTX when I was equally frustrated when posting about the driver issue with thief etc, but at no point did a thread get locked or worse my account deleted. I don't have loyalty to AMD or nVidia but depending on the answer I get from AMD next week this card maybe going back and AMD will be added to the list of manufactures I will never buy anything from again. So whats the moral of this story, well take your pick.. [update] found cached copies of 1 of my posts Cached AMD frum link Cached AMD forum link2
  17. That's how mine used to be. I think you'll find a few of my old posts complaining about readable brightness but not any more. What happens if you go in the trainer gamma room and adjust your settings as it describes just for the book (ignoring the directions for setting it for the room itself for the time being.) If you set the book comfortably how you like it then only slightly change it from that to accomodate the room lighting, is there no acceptable compromise? I found I also had to adjust my monitor and graphics card settings to get a good balance.
  18. when i do a search, it give me some results, I click on a result and exspect to get taken to the post it specifies - but no..... I get taken to the first post of the bloody thread it is in..ggrrr
  19. Apologies if this has already been discussed. I did a quick search and didn't turn up anything. It seems like certain readable items are causing a huge drain on my framerate whenever they're in view. I don't mean the version that comes up when I've frobbed them to read, but the object in the world when they're visible anywhere on my screen. It seems like there's at least one in every mission I've played, while the majority of them are fine. Outpost is the mission in which I actually managed to narrow down the issue to a readable. The note on the desk in the Bishop's room causes massive slowdown, even with the candle taken away and with bloom turned off. If I stand on the desk, my framerate is fine in all directions except looking straight down. If I crouch in front of the desk, my framerate is fine in all directions until I stand up. If I look at just the chair, just the corner table, just the banner, etc., my framerate is fine. In the training mission, I encounter the same thing when I look at the book on the pedestal in the center. In the Saint Lucia demo, was there a readable in the basement? I remember a framerate issue in one particular spot, but I didn't figure out what the cause was there. I can go back and check if need be. I haven't played Chalice or Crown yet, but I can report on those once I have played them.
  20. I made a letter using a handwritten font but not quite enough room so I did a new gui so the body starts at the top and left the title blank. It occurred to me that this might be commonly needed but would double up every gui. Might there be value in doing all the readables guis like this by default? The title space and font still exists but unused. When a title is needed the mapper just puts \n\n\n at the start of his body text. Is it possible to have any font control from the xdata? I've searched the net before for xdata info but I think it is a common variable name in some languages so results get flooded with those. The wiki articles don't give a lot of info and I suspect there is more somewhere. I did find a colour control for about 16 colours but they are one line only and over bright, virtually luminous, for our needs. Wiki down at the moment so can't check what's there. No it's not - I left my firewall locked during an overnight virus scan. Line spacing distance seems to be built into the font unfortunately with a small font size yet wastes line space - almost looks double spaced. Can't recall if I'm using popsie or everett but I'm inclined to increase the font size. Trouble is, it looks so real, like when you try to read real handwriting. That might be good for special cases where you want the player to struggle a minute to make out the whereabouts of a secret crypt but probably not for general use. Can't recall if multi- page readables work yet - fairly sure they do but suit only books. Maybe we need a 'multi-sheets of parchment' model and inventory icon to represent several sheets. Not even tried mixing with graphics yet, would font position vary with screen res? - will be easier to do a custom background like a map and probably the way to go. It's probably not such a big deal to have a few like that in a map zip.
  21. why are they so slow this evening..??
  22. So I'm in the dining room in the church, sitting on the table waiting for the patrolling guard to leave the room, and I decided now would be a good time to catch up on my reading. I whip out the notes I had just picked up and start reading. No problem, right? Same as it's always been with the Thief games (minus the time freeze). Then it dawned on me - How is it that I'm reading this note in an area so dark that a guard passing a few feet away can't see me? Shouldn't I light my lantern or be near a light source in order to read? Wouldn't that be more realistic? So, would it be possible to require a certain amount of light to be available to read the readables? This would require the player to either provide light or be near a light source in order to read, and I feel it would add another dimension of realism along with a little more difficulty if this were possible. The player would then have to be more cautious when reading so a guard doesn't see them. I noticed that if you "drop" a note into your hands and stand near light you can see some text on the note (it's not readable, just visible), but if you are in the dark you can't see the text at all, so it does seem at least remotely possible. Thoughts?
