  1. Btw, I'm running into the same problem after updating to 2.09. Tried changing all of the aforementioned CVARs, but nothing solved it. I ended up updating to one of the test builds (I think test15973-8787). I'm on a laptop with an Intel UHD 620 and a dedicated nVidia GeForce MX150 here. Switching GPUs doesn't change anything, except that the screen is turning all white on Intel, instead of all black on nVidia. I haven't tried wiping the entire TDM tree to see if any old assets (like glprogs) might be lying around, conflicting with the downloaded ones. I also haven't tried yet recompiling TheDarkModx64.exe, to have the glprogs copied over afresh in the post-build step. edit: a fresh download of 2.09 is working, so it seems something in my existing darkmod/ tree is messing things up.
  2. If it were not compatible, you should be getting a black screen because nothing could be rendered without textures. But in practice, it does render, just with confused texture associations. It looks and feels very much like a bug, but unfortunately I don't (yet) have access to an AMD device myself, so it' very hard to debug...
  3. Addendum: if image_usePrecompressedTextures "0" -> BLACK SCREEN (game is working)
  4. Same problem (black screen on v2.09), same solution (setting r_glCoreProfile "0"). System specs:
  5. _apitrace_record3.cmd works, but 1 and 2 result in the black screen.
  6. Ok, I'll try to get some more information, but that would need more complicated steps from you. 1) Run tdm_installer without any custom checks, and make sure it installs release209 properly. Do not use test/dev versions for this! 2) Delete "currentfm.txt" file in TDM installation directory (if it exists). 3) Download apitrace from this link. It is a 7z archive with a folder inside. Unpack the contents of the folder into "C:\apitrace". Make sure that path "C:\apitrace\bin\apitrace.exe" indeed points to the executable! 4) Download attached zip file. Unpack its contents into the root of your TDM installation directory. Make sure you see files like "_apitrace_record1.cmd" in the same directory where you see "TheDarkModx64.exe". 5) Action time Run "_apitrace_record1.cmd". It will start TDM game, and after a bit of time you will hear music. Now press Ctrl+Alt+Tilde (~) to open console. Type "condump 1" and hit Enter. Then exit game by pressing Alt+F4. Note that you'll have to do it blind, so verify that both "1.txt" and "res1.trace" have been created in TDM directory. 6) Repeat point 5, but now run "_apitrace_record2.cmd" and execute "condump 2". 7) Repeat point 5, but now run "_apitrace_record3.cmd" and execute "condump 3". 8|) Take files "1.txt", "2.txt", "3.txt", "res1.trace", "res2.trace", "res3.trace" in TDM installation directory, and pack them all into 7z/zip archive. Upload the archive somewhere and share it for download. P.S. And if you start seeing the menu instead of black screen in any of the runs, of course report it 209_blackmenu_apitrace.zip
  7. test15973-8793 and test15973-8795 both result in the black screen no matter if it's seta r_useNewBackend "1" or seta r_useNewBackend "0".
  8. I have a Radeon HD 6450 graphics card. test15973-8778 works but test15973-8797 starts with the black screen.
  9. @Jedi_Wannabe, "dev15976-8815" is the very first dev build. Are you sure 'dev15976-8815' gives you black screen but release208 works properly? I hope you do not restore config file when switching versions?
  10. Something I've changed in my map today caused it to show nothing but a black screen after it loads. I can see my lightgem and hear sound speakers that are near the starting position, but no music, no equipment, no movement, no crouching. Things I've changed: - Reworked the script file - Added a few nodrawsolid brushes and trigger entities, moved some items around - Deleted some patches My guess is the script is to blame, but even if I delete the script it loads black. I've seen this happen before in my test map that I used to test my scripts, there it got solved by dmapping again, but I've dmapped twice now for no gain. There's no leak. Has this happened to someone before maybe? [solved] Figured out the dmap wasn't updating the .cm file, only the .proc file. I've deleted the outdated .cm and ran dmap again, now it works.
  11. This has been happening for a while (since 2.02 at least) but I'm just now getting around to posting about it but when I try to use the spyglass all I get is a black screen. Any ideas? Fully updated TDM 2.03. Thanks, Richard
  12. Hi there ^^ After launching thedarkmod.x86, i get a complete (and sometimes partly) Black Screen on openSUSE 12.3 (Updated)
  13. Hi, I've tried to run TDM-2.0 downloaded via torrent (not from TDM website, it wasn't available there at that time) on my gentoo-x64 box. I've fixed a relative path problem by renaming the game's folder to "darkmod", but now it prints lots of errors like "WARNING:Couldn't load image: guis/assets/mainmenu/buttons_loadsave/loadmission" on startup. It finds all files in the search path, but can't load the images. The menu screen is completely black. Sound works fine, I can hear the feedback when I hover the mouse over a button. I guess not being able to see anything has to do with those image loading failures, right? Any idea how I can solve them? I've deleted the Darkmod.cfg and re-ran the updater, but that didn't solve the problem.
  14. The Problem: I can see the mouse cursor and the Steam overlay when I run TDM, but otherwise the screen is black. Gauging by the audio and my ability to exit the game by a bit of careful mouse-clicking and guesstimation, it seems the game is running fine apart from the lack of video. My End of Things: Core i5, 32GB RAM, nVidia 460 2GB graphics card, 100s of GB free HDD space on a 1TB drive C. Windows 7 Ultimate. Steam version of Doom3, claiming to be the correct version for TDM. Custom shortcut to run the game: "C:\Games\Steam\Steam.exe -applaunch 9050 +set fs_game_base darkmod" Customised resolution in C:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Doom 3\darkmod\DoomConfig.cfg to 1920*1200, Disabled Threaded Optimisation in nVidia Control Panel. I made this change after having a glance at the TDM Wiki. Enabling Threaded Optimisation does not appear to have any effect. What I'm Thinking It appears the game resets DoomConfig to a display resolution of 7xx*4xx whenever I run it. I've tried to write-protect the file, but that didn't stop the game from changing it. And I'm guessing the weird resolution the game insists on is outside the range of my panel (a nice, if older, Eizo 26" with a native resolution of 1920*1200).
  15. I've a black screen when I start the training mission, I can hear the sounds but no graphics. My system specs are: Pentium IV 1.6 GHz 512 RAM 64 MB Video Card I can run Doom 3 fine, albeit with low settings and a few tweaks on the configs here and there. Were my config tweaks the problem? Or is it because of the fact that TDM doesn't have Quality options? If so, how can I fix this?
  16. I just installed tdm, and I clicked on the exe, when it loaded, the screen is all black, and what I assume is the main menu music is playing, with no video or graphics in the slightest. Any help is appreciated, thanks.
  17. Presumably this part is the problem? If the lighting interaction shader cannot be compiled, a black screen is likely to result.
  18. Also, for some reason it often helps to delete darkmod.cfg after an update, so that you get a new one when you next start TDM. Worth keeping a backup of it in case that doesn't fix the black screen.
  19. Yes, try to update your video drivers. And if there is a darkmod.log in your darkmod folder, we would like to see it. Open the file with notepad and copy its content in this topic. in the following topics, you can find some other pointers: https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/search/&q=black screen&quick=1&type=forums_topic&nodes=58
  20. Well, when playing full screen it is a black screen with a TDM mouse. When playing windowed screen it is a black screen inside a window with a TDM mouse. Here are the screenshots.
  21. So I recently updated to 2.07, one thing I noticed is that when i'm ingame now the 3d window is only a small window. I thought this was quite strange and maybe somehow a problem with the mission I was working on so I booted up an already released working on 2.06 mission and had the same problem. Then I thought well maybe the issue is that I updated from 2.06 to 2.07, maybe a fresh install will solve this problem. I downloaded a brand new fresh version of 2.07 and i'm having the exact same problem as before. The only settings I changed in the menu is that the screen size was reduced from 1920x1080 down to 1280x720 and "Fullscreen" to "no". This is the exact setup i've run for years now without any problems, however whenever I click the maximize window button on 2.07 with those settings, on a fresh install the screen does this: That 3d window in the bottom allows me to move around but for whatever reason the rest of the screen is just a static image of either the main screen menu or it's entirely black. If I have the window set to the regular size it looks fine, but as soon as I click the maximize button on the window, rather than scaling the 3d screen upto whatever it needs to be, it stays at the 1280x720 and the rest of the resolution is just a static image. So to put simply if you want to replicate this bug. 1- Load any mission 2- Set the resolution to 1280x720 3- Set fullscreen to no 4- Restart the game 5- Load the mission 6- Click the maximize button on the window If I change the resolution to 1920x1080 (my monitors default resolution) and then click maximize there are no issues, and running the game in fullscreen works fine too. This isn't a deal breaker bug, but just something new I noticed with the new version and thought it should be brought to your attention. Perhaps there are other mechanics tied into this that might cause problems.
  22. So I just installed Dark Mod for the first time, and the first time I launched it, it was fine except for the fact that it was windowed instead of fullscreen. I changed the resolution to 1920x1080, and I think I changed the option that said "automatically open unlocked doors", and then I quit the Dark Mod so that the resolution changes would take effect. Now, whenever I restart Dark Mod, all I get is a black screen : ( I don't know what in the world is going on.. I even deleted my doomconfig.cfg file out of the darkmod folder because I figured that Dark Mod would just put a default config back in there when I started it again and it didn't detect doomconfig.cfg. However, although it did replace the file, it looks as though it kept the resolution at 1920x1080 so it didn't seem to go back to default. What's going on here? I play other mods at 1920x1080 no problem.. and I really want to play Dark Mod lol : /
  23. Nevermind, it's always the easiest solution that occurs to one last. I set the windows resolution to 1920x1080, which centers the screen on the 32:9 Samsung and TDM then is also centered with black bars.
  24. Well, I'm wondering if anyone can help me here. Here's the problem: - Installed Doom 3, patched it to 1.3.1.1304 (checked with console), also installed Resurrection of Evil. Note that I can run Doom 3 at pretty high graphics settings without any problems, so I guess I meet the hardware requirements for TDM, too. - Downloaded torrent version of TDM, extracted it into specified directory. Also downloaded some of the missions and put them into the proper directory. - Started up TDM, and at this point it still worked fine. - Chosen to install the Tutorial. The program restarts, but this time I have a black screen with only the mouse cursor visible (and it moves), and the TDM menu music playing. If I move around the cursor, I get some sound effects which I guess indicate me rolling over menu options, but of course I can't see that. - Since I can't see anything, the Exit button included, I can only leave the program by Alt-Tabbing out of it. Further attempts to run TDM (including after a reboot of the computer) produce the same black screen with working cursor and music. My specs: WinXP Intel Duo CPU E7600 @ 3.06 GHz ASUSTek motherboard 4 Gb RAM GeForce 9600 GT GPU Any help would be appreciated.
  25. I'm noting other problems which I'll post issues for once we're up and running again. One of those is related to this one: textures for some non-frobable objects (worldspawn and func_statics) aren't being painted. The same textures will be missing through several dmaps, then suddenly they appear again, and different textures go away. It's as if a) the texture can't be found (though other surfaces with the same texture are fine) or b) the surface is behaving as if no light--not even ambient--is touching it, so it's painted black. In favor of the "texture not being found" thought is that on one load the loading screen was black, as if it couldn't be found. There are no missing texture warnings. Will file an issue with examples when we're back online.
