Fire elementals

I am new to the mod, I just bought a new computer and I could play it. I passed through the tutorial and I am loving it so far.

(I understood nothing of the sword combat... but who needs that?!?)

I read around in the next release there shall be the zombie and haunts. It made me wonder: what about the fire elementals?

Those small floating guys we loved in the Lost City?

With the Doom3 graphics engine they should come out extremely nicely, moreover they should be pretty interesting to code: in

the Thief game broad head arrow make them shrink, fire arrows heal them, water arrows kill them in one shot and finally the

blackjack confused them...

Well, the main point is: thanks for the good job. Playing The Dark Mod has been like a breath of youth... I swear my heart skipped a beat when I saw the luminous mushroom in the archery training ground...

We actually have a fire elemental already. We just have never gotten around to porting over the D3 code for flying, so he currently just hovers along the ground.

I do not know if the blackjack has any effect in TDM, but I loved the touch of Thief where trying to knock them down as you do with a guard would make them walk as a drunk soldier for a few seconds shooting changing color randomly. Some applies to the fact you could shrink them...

Wouldn't it be possible to turn these flying heads from Doom 3 into flying fireballs and put them into The Dark Mod? I'm afraid I am not a modder, but I really would like to see them too in TDM :)

That's exactly what I did when creating the fire elementals. :)

Oh dear... An alerted fire elemental sounds really scary!

And scary is allways good spice in a game ;)

Hope the new haunts will sound also as good as in thief 1 and 2

I, too, have prodded Springheel in another thread about this - but he's been busy cracking on with the new Inventor / Forge worker models as well as mapping!

Somehow I admire the fact that the material from Dune has now been filmed for the third time. Personally, I could never do much with the material, but as a child of the 80s, I of course know the David Lynch movie...and that movie was at least funny!

Hey @nbohr1morehow come the zombies in The Dark Mod don't have a "resurrection" mechanic to it, similar to how Thief has it?
They're quite a weak creature as of right now, it's merely a walking corpse that slashes you, making attacking them to kill them an actual strategy.
Would be better if they had some cool mechanism to it that truly makes them a danger, such as the resurrection idea itself.

Query: when was the last time a zombie in a video game was unnerving or scary to you? I'm chipping away at my anniversary submission and I've been trying to gather opinions on the subject. I'm perfectly capable of lighting them well, changing their sfx, and creating effective ambience, but I'm worried that zombies at their core are just too overdone to be an effective payoff to the tension I'm creating.
