Heh turns out the RX6800 is actually faster than nvidias rtx 3800 in 4k and beyond unless DLSS is enabled,

AMD uses dx12's native support for raytracing which is not as fast as nvidias but still thats quite impressive :)

Imagine the RX6800 with DLSS support... ouch.

AMD is working on their own version of DLSS called FidelityFX Super Resolution or something like that. But it won't be available at launch.

Also rage mode though im a bit ambivalent on that one since normally the cpu does not handle gfx calls to well.

Originally i would have gone with the RX 5700 xt to replace my aging R9 390 but if the prices on the 6800 hold i would probably go with one of those. My screen cant do 4K anyway xD so its no big loss.

NVIDIA Reveals GeForce RTX 3060: Launching Late February For $329

RTX 3080 = 10 GB
RTX 3070 = 8 GB
RTX 3060 Ti = 8 GB
RTX 3060 = 12 GB

Strange things happening over at Nvidia. If you manage to find RTX 3060 at MSRP, you might want to snatch it up.

I'm just looking at the news of all these new graphics cards, and all I can think about is how to get better at OpenXcom.

I don't think I'm currently the target for this hardware.

A word of warning, Agent Denton. This was a simulated experience; real LAMs will not be so forgiving.

This is the worst time in years to buy any new hardware. Maybe check things out in late 2022 or 2023 if you are fine with what you have. Around that time the multi-chip module (chiplet) GPUs will be shaking things up and raytracing performance will be much better.

good advice, also corona has inflated prices on hardware by a pretty large factor so it might pay of to wait a little.

if you dont intend to play in 4K my sapphire R9 390 is plenty capable still :)

gah my R9 390 just blew up :S so now im using an asus strix 970 gtx with half the ram, performance wise it is quite similar to the R9 390 but in larger resolutions the 390 has it beat (probably because of it only having 4 gb "3.5gb actually" compared to the 390's 8GB).

I managed to find the faulty component on my R9 390 but my eyesight is shit these days and i dont have the tools to desolder smd's so if anyone wants to toy with getting it running again i can point out the components that need to be changed.

Not (yet) exactly directly connected to CPU's and video cards but some good news. Maybe we will do away with the 3 USB connections common for modern devices now and we'll only have 1 - the USB-C. Atm Apple protests a lot because they want to keep their lightning charger for their devices.

Bullet point - "USB-C will become the standard port for all smartphones, tablets,
cameras, headphones, portable speakers and handheld videogame console"

Source: https://ec.europa.eu/commission/presscorner/detail/en/ip_21_4613

I simply hope that this will be the new standard for internal hardware components in the future too. I mean the connectors to and from the motherboard etc. That would simplify and streamline PC buildings and basic maintenance so much... I don't know if it's feasible and so on but it's just common sense...

"I really perceive that vanity about which most men merely prate — the vanity of the human or temporal life. I live continually in a reverie of the future. I have no faith in human perfectibility. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active — not more happy — nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago. The result will never vary — and to suppose that it will, is to suppose that the foregone man has lived in vain — that the foregone time is but the rudiment of the future — that the myriads who have perished have not been upon equal footing with ourselves — nor are we with our posterity. I cannot agree to lose sight of man the individual, in man the mass."

The RX 6500 XT, RX 6400, RTX 3050, and Intel 128 EU launches could help. All low-end cards that will be sold in the ballpark of $150 to $250. Obscene, sure, but it will restrain cards like the 1660 Super. Being in Denmark/Europe you will get worse prices compared to America though.

guess the sellers have humor to, recently while browsing for avaliable cards the page here in denmark listed the rx 6500 at 1 million dkk xD sadly they where all sold out.

The card so bad it's good (at MSRP).

Just buy it online in a poor Eastern European country and have it delivered by mail.

RIP in pepperonis.

With RTX 3050 at a fake $250 MSRP, unwanted RX 6500 XT at $200 sometimes, and RX 6400 going to be a weakling as we could extrapolate from the 6500 XT (and probably OEM-only), now it will be interesting to see where Intel Arc A380 lands. It could be similar in performance to some form of the GTX 1660, with 6 GB VRAM, but better raytracing/encoder performance.

I posted about it before, but I think the default tdm logo video looks outdated. For a (i.m.o.) better looking version, you can download the pk4 attached to this post and plonk it in your tdm root folder. Every mission that starts with the tdm logo then starts with the better looking one. Try for example mission COS1 Pearls and Swine.

I finished DOOM - The Dark Ages the other day. It is a decent shooter, but not as great as its predecessors, especially because of the soundtrack.
