I'm thinking of turning the Vengeance for a Thief campaign in to a trilogy with a prequel where you steal the Angel's Tear diamond that gets you locked up in prison. I also want to make changes to a already released installment eg a way to get back to the police station and to create the inside of the cathedral for the player to explore. Might take two years assuming I dont get burn out.

That sounds like a great idea! All the player has to do is walk to the other end of the room to retrieve a scepter. To make it challenging there is a row of haunts between the player and the scepter. The player is armed with just the snake lock pick and the spyglass.

Thank you serpentine! I also love the unique ladder textures too. Eg climbable foilage, climbable chains. Its great fun finding all these neat little changes in DR.

How would people feel about a Jack The Ripper puzzle solving themed FM for The Unusual Gameplay contest? I ask because it takes place in 1888 and AI with swords look ridiculous in that time period therefore there might not be any AI. The only challenge is in puzzle solving.

He said there aren't guards to sneak past. But if you're tracking down criminals, you can still have a confrontation with them. But tracking clues itself could be interesting.

How much AI can you get in one room before the frame rate starts dropping? I was going to do a manor FM which takes place during a ball. This might not be a good idea if I cant get more than 4 AI in the ballroom at once.

My friend is such a huge Harry Potter fan that he went to see a hypnotist so he could get all his memories of the movies erased so he could watch them all anew. I'm seriously considering getting this done with the Thief games.

@ Diego & GDV - you make great points. The graphics would certainly be an eye sore compared to todays games. I would also be scared of loosing all my mapping knowledge. Although one might ask the question, is there much to loose?

I get "aas:rat out of date" after I Dmap even after I have deleted all the rats in my map. All other AI behave fine eg follow patrol routes, chase after me when I'm seen. What does this mean?

You should put this in the editors section, have you tried deleting all map files bar the map and darkradiant (or script file if you have one) files and then dmap..?

I just copied and pasted a part of my map thaat I had been working on seperately. It had the rats in it. Also a spider. I deleted the spider and now there's no aas problems. I guess DR doesnlt like copying ai that has random patrol routes. I'll try re adding the rats and spider from the entity list instead of copying and pasting

Finally got a wireless mouse and keyboard for the home. After using a wireless mouse at work for the last few months and being able to swing around in my chair with my mouse in my hand whenever someone came to talk to me, I did the same at home forgetting my mouse wasn't wireless. I accidnetally tore it out of the cable.

Until recently, I've always been too chicken to get a wireless keyboard. I'm always afraid it'll miss a keystroke (which is crucial when programming).

I prefer a wired keyboard too. I hate when batteries die on a wireless KB while I'm typing. Wireless Logitech Anywhere MX mouse for my laptop and Logitech G500 wired gaming mouse for the desktop.

I made my own wireless headphones. I did it by getting up quickly while wearing a wired pair, thinking they were my existing wireless ones! Now I have two wireless pairs, one of which no longer functions.

Is there an easier way to randomize the wood texture on staircases besides selecting step - shifting texture - deselect step - select next step. It results in making staircases one of the most boring things in DR

@DMG I'm probably being thick here but how is that a quick way to texture lots of objects? You still have to go around clicking on the individual faces of each thing you want to texture?

It's faster than changing the texture position for all of them, not as fast as selecting all & clicking the "Natural" button as Sotha mentioned. I was just listing another option, sheesh, lol.

Sorry I re-read the point & let me re-explain that. The advantage of the MMB-click method is: it's for when every face has a different texture. It's a quick copy/paste method. So it's not really there for your task at all (when they're all the same texture).

It appears that if you dmap and then shut down Dark Mod and re open it and map that performance improves significantly? Or am I imagining this?

Following on from Gman's info, shuttong down DR in this isnatcen just freed up a bunch of resources (ram/cpu/etc) and thats why the map ran faster after. Fyi even with 8Gb in my PC I have shutdown and start TDM/D3 after about the 3rd dmap depending on the size of the map Im working on. The smaller the map and the more system ram you have the less times you have to reboot TDM etc.

I'm thinking of rewriting the story for my second FM. I've made half a city and it's already taking ages to Dmap. I was going to make a church, police station and warehouse you can enter too. I might just make the city and leave out all those huge building you enter. There's also a better chance it will be finished this year if I do that.

But I guess if you want to finish then yeah, leave it to the imagination.

With city maps you must be careful not to lose focus. It can easily turn into a confusing set of locations without any common denominator. That is of which the Alchemist suffered, for example: it is very poorly focused.

I've rewritten the story, redisgned the city layout so it's a bit smaller and will still build the police station but not the warehouse and church. I think I can handle that. Still a long way from completion though

I was on the german translation team. And yes, it contains way too many readables. Still a great mission though.
