  1. I've updated both the Blender ASE import and export scripts to work with the newly released 2.53 beta. I've also fixed a few bugs. Links in their respective posts have been updated but they are also included in the tutorial below. Google Doc modwiki.net The Dark Mod WIki If there is anything that isn't clear or needs illustration let me know. It's a Google doc so it's almost like a wiki page and I can make immediate changes.

      I never got into BSD, though I've installed it once or twice. This is another reason to check it out.

      The BSD's arn't for everyone, but within their goals, simple code and mailing lists lies a lot of goodness and simplicity. I love the underdogs. Anyhoo work will be Linux friendly too. Portability is a cornerstone for good code.

  2. I put Nosslak's bellows model into a map and it renders perfectly in DR, but not at all when I run the map in TDM (or load it as a mission). I have tried putting the .pk4 in several locations, both as-is as well as extracted*. I have tried in ~/.doom3/darkmod/maps/mapname/, ~/.doom3/darkmod/, ~/.doom3/darkmod/base/, ~/.doom3/base/, ~/.doom3/mymission/, ~/.doom3/darkmod/fms/mymission/, ~/myname/apps/games/doom3/base/ (path to actual doom3 game). Considering that I tried putting it in all of these paths, both as a .pk4 as well as extracted*, and can see it in DR, I am totally puzzled why it does not render in TDM no matter where I put it. * by this I mean I have tried both methods... putting the .pk4 there, and also I tried extracting the .pk4 to that path.
  3. Some time ago I wrote a small program to process ASE files. It automalically corrects strings after the BITMAP keyword, for example: *BITMAP "D:\Games\doom3\darkmod\textures\darkmod\some_folder\some_texture.tga" is replaced by *BITMAP "\\base\textures\darkmod\some_folder\some_texture" DDS paths are also processed correctly. You can download the program here: http://hedonism.nm.ru/programs/ase_process...DarkRadiant.zip Usage: type ASE2DarkRadiant <modelname> in the command line. For the convenience, I added this command to the context menu for ASE files. http://hedonism.nm.ru/programs/ase_process...ase_export3.png And now, when I need to export a model, I first, hm, export it: http://hedonism.nm.ru/programs/ase_process...ase_export1.png And then I choose Export command again and do so: http://hedonism.nm.ru/programs/ase_process...ase_export2.png ... and then click Cancel.
  4. Just a post to let everyone know I found a converter from Anim8or files to ase. Alot of people at TTLG have used Anim8or (I hate typing that name) as a freeware solution to making models for T2.       (We can leave the thread for journalism corruption, but just on this...) Then the issue in academia is money flowing to the more corruptable fields like science & engineering with the big corporate grants & revolving door with staff. The humanities might not get that, but OTOH they are getting pressured to "justify their existence" financially. I could probably agree it's rife in almost any human field though, as long as there are incentives there will be corruption.

      Or then we have the "uncorruptable" critical academics, but then they're basing their work on Derrida or Marx and are so detached from reality they throw their credibility out the window. It's good to be critically detached, not so good to be derailed from reality. My position in law sometimes is something like a critical realism, but it's practically an orphan position. (You want to protect victims *and* think science works??? Wha...?)

      Who is uncorruptable anyways? I cannot convince even myself that I would be uncorruptable in every situation. And I perceive myself to be situated in the more-reliable-than-50%-of-the-general-population side in the gaussian distribution curve of corruption. Problematic, yes?

  5. Does anybody else have this problem? In the (European) evenings the forum is unbearable slow. The server is delivering about 8Kbyte/s, sometimes less and usually stops midwhere during loading the page. Sometimes you can't even get the index page, sometimes you can log in, but then only get half of the overview etc. In the mornings everything is snappy.
  6. For the last 1-2 weeks the forums have been really slow and unresponsive for me, when I type a post half the time it just sits there etc.. is anyone else having the same issues..?
  7. I've upgraded IPB to the latest stable version, and since this was a major upgrade (from 2.3.6) I also had to re-do the forum style. Most of the new stuff is in place, but I bet that the logo will be changed. One of the many new features in version 3 is rating of posts and also a "report spammer" ability which will make it easier to single out spam bots and ban then at sight. Hopefully this will stop some of the spam threads we've seen recently. Make sure to empty your browser cache if you're experiencing any problems. And please report any errors etc in this thread.       I'm using the CD with TG, T2 and T3 on it. Darkloader doesn't like it. I can't get TG FMs to work

  10. I see that most of the DarkMod models use ASE/LWO, whereas my tree model I just exported I used DerTon's MD5 exporter for 3DSMax 2009. What's easier to get into Doom 3?
