  1. Is this allowed? As long as I am not getting any money for this or claiming to be the artist responisble for creating the music will this be OK? If so how do I find out if the artist or their record company allows their music to be used for something like this?
  2. As odd as it is... as I play the Thief 2 FMs more, I am starting to understand where all the Shadowhide's cricism came from in the first place. The missions are really complicated and well done, you don't get this much of complexity these days...

ST has a point I thinks. On the other hand... I wouldn't even WANT to play a HUGE complex FM. No time for such commitment.

Sometime's a Lord Alan's factory sized FM is just right. Like the weekend

  3. Anyone interested in categorizing our FMs by type (City, Forest, Mansion, Church, etc)? It would be a really useful list to have. See this thread: http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/14846-fm-list-by-type/

We may cut this down to some basic categories and specify them a bit more.

Ok. Note there are 2 jobs here. For the TTLG thread, we need to use their categories. For our own purposes we can do whatever after that.

  4. Just wanted to say, Hello! From reading through various posts in the forums it seems like a great community and I hope to become a part of it. So I got the hankering for some Thief as of late and stumbled on TDM through some googling. After purchasing Doom 3 through Steam and instaling TDM, I have been nostalgiacly playing through many of the FMs and have also decided to d/l the Radiant editor and start making a mission, maybe many, we'll see. As it turns out also, I just started (today!) my 1 week vacation from work and intend to dive in to the Radiant editor and am currently going through the A-Z wiki on it. A bit of background on me, I 'used' to work in application support till the economic crash a couple years ago and was laid off and am now running a machining center at a local machine shop, using Mastercam daily, 2D/3D stuff and have always wanted to make a mission/game, and decided since I've always enjoyed the Thief series and stealth gameplay so much, this is where I would start. After getting to my third year in Mechanical Technology I changed my major to Information Technology (should have went with straight Computer Science but ahhh hindsight). I've always loved building things and designing things and also really enjoy computers, art, audio, and the entire visual experience as presented to a user. I have created a couple playable maps before using the older source engine editor so I'm vaguely familiar with 3D modeling, skyboxes, lighting, AI pathing, etc. That's been over 10 years ago though. I got familiar with 3dsmax, ProE, Autocad, and Mastercam in my first major during school so that helps a bit when familiarizing with a new editor and as previously mentioned I've dabbled around in the Valve Source editor. I'm also very much looking forward to the Crucible of Omens campaign created by the marvelous talent at TDM and would like to help in any way I can once I'm familiar with the Radiant engine. I can also do many many voices, I've often thought about moving out to Cali from Indiana and finding work in voice-overs, voice acting, etc. All this started as a youngster with little friends, time on my hands, and imaginary friends. Wow that's hard to admit. So anyway, I've been working on a shadowy Garrett voice, and can do guards and some women characters with old, old english, gruff, slippery, sneaky, terrifying, voices and personalities. Just thought I'd mention that as it may be a way that I could contribute early on and would also enjoy. So anyway, too much about me and not enough A-Z wiki, back to the tutorial! Glad to be here and hope for good things to come.
  5. I haven't been around too much recently, but when I do look into the forums every so often, I am always amazed how much progress is being made on the mod. Great work people!

  6. I felt frustrated trying to play some T2 FMs now

Its light is baked, so it feels a bit abstracted from the world.

      SeriousToni

Its light is baked?? I thought it was dynamic like the fire elementals light o_O Diego, if you have problems with the light you might want to use the DDfix and stuff like that wich solved it for me!

    4. demagogue

      demagogue

Only a few lights are dynamic, like you say elementals & lanterns, etc, and those are easier to avoid too. But all normal lamps & torches that don't move are baked.

  7. Okay, y'all should release 1.09beta to us. Soes that we can help by playing FMs... and identifying missing assets (and general debugging).

  8. Hey all - recently started messing with TDM editing again - I'm a long ways off from finishing anything, but I wondered - are players OK with vanilla missions that use only stock resources from TDM? I'm not much for creating new textures models or devising new scripting or anything like that, but I'd love to make a small mission that only uses basic TDM stuff. Guess I'm not really asking if that's OK, but maybe instead how it's viewed. Is that just too boring or dull for players, do you expect more than that from a new mission at this point in TDM's life cycle?
  9. Evening Got TDM 1.08 working on my macbook air, but where the hell is it saving the missions to..? as its not in the darkmod/fms folder.. ta.
  10. This worked before but for some reason its not working now that I've re-installed TDM.
  11. Darkmod saves one FM.pk4 in Doom3\darkmod\fms and one again in Doom3\FM - so can I delete one of them to save diskspace? Does the game even use the fms folder after extracting the pk4 to Doom3\FM ? FM = name of the fan mission I need to clean up my hard drive
  12. Does anybody else have this problem? In the (European) evenings the forum is unbearable slow. The server is delivering about 8Kbyte/s, sometimes less and usually stops midwhere during loading the page. Sometimes you can't even get the index page, sometimes you can log in, but then only get half of the overview etc. In the mornings everything is snappy.
  13. I thought this might be a good idea. Anyone can go over to TTLG and find threads recommending classic Thief FMs eg Calendras Legacy, Seven Sisters etc. I thought it might be helpful to have a thread recommending recent Thief FMs that are worth playing. Sometimes RL gets too busy and we dont always have time to play every FM that gets released. Also this thread can continue getting updated. Please include a brief discription about the FM. T2 FM; Cryptic Realms by Sensut - Crypt FM with beautiful details and great atmosphere. There is a colour and black and white version of this. I recommend playing the black and white version first. T2 FM: Better Off Dead by Sensut - 2 part campaign. The first part takes part in a haunted monastry and second part in The Maw of Chaos. T2 FM: A Better Tomorrow by DrK - A black and white city FM with a survival horror theme. Actually quite scary. T2 FM: Precious by AntiMatter16 - A small city FM. This proves that it isn't the size that counts but what you do with it. T2 FM: Pestis Cruentia by Haplo - A zombie FM that takes place in part of the TDS city hub which is remade in DromEd. Rope arrows now work along with the ability to swim in water. T2 FM: Finals at the Academy by Larry G - Prequel about Garretts life while he was training to be a keeper. Be warned - there's a Hell of a lot of readables in this.

I never got into BSD, though I've installed it once or twice. This is another reason to check it out.

The BSD's arn't for everyone, but within their goals, simple code and mailing lists lies a lot of goodness and simplicity. I love the underdogs. Anyhoo work will be Linux friendly too. Portability is a cornerstone for good code.

  14. Evening I figured it was about time I get my 1.08 updated versions of 'Business and Usual' and 'Alberics Curse' out the door :-) Many thanks. :-)

(We can leave the thread for journalism corruption, but just on this...) Then the issue in academia is money flowing to the more corruptable fields like science & engineering with the big corporate grants & revolving door with staff. The humanities might not get that, but OTOH they are getting pressured to "justify their existence" financially. I could probably agree it's rife in almost any human field though, as long as there are incentives there will be corruption.

    3. demagogue

      demagogue

Or then we have the "uncorruptable" critical academics, but then they're basing their work on Derrida or Marx and are so detached from reality they throw their credibility out the window. It's good to be critically detached, not so good to be derailed from reality. My position in law sometimes is something like a critical realism, but it's practically an orphan position. (You want to protect victims *and* think science works??? Wha...?)

    4. Sotha

      Sotha

Who is uncorruptable anyways? I cannot convince even myself that I would be uncorruptable in every situation. And I perceive myself to be situated in the more-reliable-than-50%-of-the-general-population side in the gaussian distribution curve of corruption. Problematic, yes?

  15. For the last 1-2 weeks the forums have been really slow and unresponsive for me, when I type a post half the time it just sits there etc.. is anyone else having the same issues..?
  16. Two fms? just when I wasn't looking. Watched pot never boils, right?
