Hi all, me again Now that I've learned how to take screenies on DM (thanks to Aluminumhaste) I wanted to post one that I took but I got an error saying that the image ext that I used was not allowed in these forums, It was .jpg so I changed it to .png and I got the same error again. They're on Photobucket.

  4. Even though the description says not to use it, will replacing a coinpurse on an AI with "atdm:prop_empty" mess anything up? the game seems to be fine so far but the description for the prop_empty was vocal about not using it.

      Could you replace the item name in the two spawnargs with a -? Iirc that's how I've been deleting props that are attached by default.

      If the engine doesn't recognize the attached entity it will post a warning in the console and not attach anything (that's what is happening when you use -). You can hardly mess anything up he. But if atdm:prop_empty is an entity that actually exists and you just want to remove it, you should better be using -.

      Thank you both, i've replaced the spawnarg with just "-" to be on the safe side.

  5. It is astonishing how much better performance is if I cut out a map section and use info_player_teleport to move between two separate "big rooms". If only transition is well thought and don't break immersion ofc. But fps boost is really worth it.

      that would only be the case if the room/map section was sufficiently VP'd and optimized though...

      Just put the transition in a really dark room. That's the oldschool way of fudging things.

      Probably because AI stop thinking when they're far enough away. You can tweak that.

  6. Hi guys, i just decided to replay System Shock 2 again , this time on Linux as this is what i use atm. First, i got troubles making mods work but already figured it out (Blue Mod manager was the answer). What i am having issues with is Psi abilities. On my previous playthroughs, i never used them. But i want to explore this feature now, and this is where i need some guidance. Few questions follow: 1. How do i actually get these abilities when i am already into the game (i have chosen these "courses" at the beginning blindly, because i was simultaneously testing the mods and editing .cfg), so i am a marine IIRC, without any Psi abilities. Does that mean i will not be able to use Psi at all ? Or do i get the chance later on ? 2. If i am left with combat abilities only because being marine, how can i cheat these abilities ? I can't get to the console, no matter what. I have tried every key and combinations with Shift, to no avail. I have also tried setting console to my "0" key with "bind 0 edit_command" in user.cfg, but console doesn't show up. Google didn't helped, so i suspect this being Linux issue. And because this is only forum that has lots of Linux users and SS fans i know of, i thought i may ask here So, Linux users, is your console in SS2 working ? If so, how do you do it ? My relevant specs: LinuxMint 17.3 x64, Latest SS2 v2.1.1.20 (GOG),running though Wine 1.6.2 TIA

      NB there's a bug with sound loss that causes sound card pops in a complex enough map. It'll be fixed soon in 2.04

  8. I figure a thread that lists the different programs besides Dark Radiant would be helpful. For example: Sound Effects - Audacity 3d Animation - Blender Tiles - Photoshop Stuff like that...then I'll take everyone's replies and put them in this top post so other members of the community can be informed on what are the best programs to use when creating for TDM.

Guy passed out in bathroom floor with vomit and the toilet bucket would knocked over with piss and shut spilled all over him, the floor some walk and door while hes passed out sleeping in it. Add in body set up arrangement, add various bottles in difderent directions, vomit and blood, how? Decals? To spice it up. I have many other scenarios

I've been playing Thief games since Thief was the only Thief game, and recently while sitting on the floor in the nave of St. Roderic's it occurred to me that life could be made easier if I didn't leave the timing to guesswork. There were three guards I had to worry about. Two were in sight most of the time, while a third patrolled othe rparts of the building before bursting in every now and then. Turns out he showed up about every two and a half minutes. Sometimes longer, but never less than two minutes and fifteen seconds. All I had to do was coordinate that with the two guys I could see, The solution? My watch has a chronograph function. It's one button push, and I can't believe I never used it for this before. Now, I knew exactly where I was in my two minute window, and just had to worry about two guards, rather than three. Smashing!
  14. As the topic already implies, I was able to implement the possibility to disable manual saves done by the player either by quicksaving or via the menu. In addition, I'm going to create an entity which will save the game under a name secified by the mapper when it gets triggered. The system would allow missions using checkpoint, or a system with limited saving capabilities, like it was done in Hitman for example. It would also allow to add this as something the player could turn on or off in the menu to increase difficulty, if the mission uses this and the mapper allows the player to do so. The question is whether it would be good to have such a feature available for mappers.
  15. This sends up red flags. What data are they collecting if I was to use that browser? It is also what I would call crossing the line. Look, a lot of people bash Google for invading privacy. However, you can use an Android very effectively without signing up for Google; without giving them a name or anything. You can browse the web, install apps, make calls with SIP, and on and on. This thing with the PS4 is a disturbing trend, though. I do NOT want to see it spread. Imagine if the new version of Windows made you sign up with MS before allowing you to browse the web. Its obvious that MS is in trouble because Google is putting the squeeze on with Chromebooks and tablets. I mean, Windows is now free with certain types of devices (and more pushy than ever before about getting you to sign up for the cloud). Back to Sony though, why would I trust them after the rootkits and removal of "other OS" feature from hardware that was already paid for? They also demonstrated that security is an unimportant concept at best with all the security breaches and passwords that were encoded as plain-text among other things. I wonder if anybody has investigated this with something like Wireshark to see what info gets sent to Sony when you use the browser? I build PCs myself and use Linux, so I really do not need to use the PS4 browser, but I was just curious. I also wasn't expecting them to be so pushy about getting you to sign up like this. For example, even a Dreamcast allowed you to surf the web with nothing more than a log-in for the ISP. I got a PS4 so I can play games offline from a disk with no connection to the cloud. TLDR: this needless lock-out of simple features until you sign up for something is creepy and crossing the line, especially in a post-Snowden world.

      I've been considering reinstalling TDS for a wile now... I've still got my original CDs. Have these guys fixed the bug where you get stuck floating? Last time I played TDS, that happened and I was unable to get out of it, so I ragequit.

      You can surpass that bug by drawing your bow, performing a shot, and draw your blackjack when the bow is tensioned, to abort the bow shot. I'm hoping it's fixed in the Gold patch too though. Alongside the thing where you move sideways, when peeking left or right.

      I hope the gameplay is unique to justify him reinventing the wheel instead of, e.g., just forking off of us. The art design looks good.
