  1. In Doom3/TDM the grafik performance in Win7 is worser than in Windows XP. My system: ATI Radeon HD3850 (PCIe) AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Windows 7 32-bit Home Premium I have the feeling, that maybe the CPU is to slow for my HD3850, because if I turn down the resolution from 1280x1024 to 640x480 I got only +10 FPS more (from 25FPS to 35FPS). Am I right with my assumption? Can a better CPU makes things better? I'm not expect a FPS boost of +20FPS, just maybe 5-10 FPS

I've been considering reinstalling TDS for a wile now... I've still got my original CDs. Have these guys fixed the bug where you get stuck floating? Last time I played TDS, that happened and I was unable to get out of it, so I ragequit.

You can surpass that bug by drawing your bow, performing a shot, and draw your blackjack when the bow is tensioned, to abort the bow shot. I'm hoping it's fixed in the Gold patch too though. Alongside the thing where you move sideways, when peeking left or right.

      @Biker Hmm.

      Build TDM mission in DR.

      Export as portions as ASE

Edit in Blender and export in TDS compatible format

      Import into T3ED

      Edit

      Release TDS mission...

      (or just stick with TDM)

  2. And another problem! Trying to beta test Fidcal's latest mission and it won't load. I get to the mission is loaded, please wait stage and it freezes for about 3 minutes and then dumps me out giving this message, (or variations but always the same malloc failure #)(with a whole load of other warnings which Fidcal says aren't important) Shutting down sound hardware idRenderSystem::Shutdown() Shutting down OpenGL subsystem ...wglMakeCurrent( NULL, NULL ): success ...deleting GL context: success ...releasing DC: success ...destroying window ...shutting down QGL ...unloading OpenGL DLL ------------ Game Shutdown ----------- --------- Game Map Shutdown ---------- -------------------------------------- Shutdown event system -------------------------------------- malloc failure for 4194312 I'm running the latest version of TDM and Doom is fully patched, all the other missions will load and run fine. My specs are - Pentium DualCore T4400 @ 2.2ghz Onboard Intel 4 series using 1 gig 3 gig Ram Win7 I've nothing running in the background and tried reinstalled my graphics drivers.

This looks cool, somehow oldschool in a nice way.

I hope the gameplay is unique to justify him reinventing the wheel instead of, e.g., just forking off of us. The art design looks good.

  3. Hey, I have a DVD writer here where when you close it, the motor continues making noise and then it pops out a second or two later. I'm 99% sure this is either due to dirt being far back in the track, or it is out of alignment. Anyone ever repair something like this? I'm thinking about taking it apart and giving it a try. I can make it stay closed if I push it shut (but not too fast). This would likely eventually wear out the gears though. Also, doing that is a pain in the ass. I know, DVD drives are really cheap, but so am I, and I have nothing better to do. I've fixed other drives before, like when a buddy gave me a broken PS2 over a decade ago. It wouldn't read disks. All I did was open it and clean the lens with alcohol and it works great to this day.

Part two is recorded. Now I only need to add the subs and rip it down. Should be on youtube tomorrow.

I didn't know that first trick setting up the base, so thanks for that.

  4. Hmm, I have a straightforward "No Kill" objective, but for some reason when I fail it, the mission doesn't end. I've added it to the "Success Logic" window as a "failure" condition, and the objective is checked as "mandatory" (as well as ongoing and irreversible). It successfully registers as 'failed' when I kill the AI, but no mission end. Is there some special thing that needs to be checked off to ensure that happens?
  5. Love your signature over at the Eidos forums. Hahaha!

I don't normally even use signatures, but I've used a few to voice my displeasure at what EM is doing to Thief. I'll probably stick with that one until I lose interest in visiting the EM forums.

  6. I found out about this http://www.raspberrypi.org/ tiny Linux computer. It looks like a very cool project for hobbiests. The device is capable of playing 1080P video in hardware, has HDMI, audio, OpenGL, etc. They've already shown it playing Quake 3 on a large monitor in 1080P with 4x AA! On such a tiny device, that is unbelievable. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_mDuJuvZjI Sure it only gets about 20 FPS in such high resolution, but he said there is still optimization to be done and it would run MUCH faster on a 4 inch display. I was thinking a cool idea would be to take an old gaming handheld from the 80s or 90s, remove all the guts, and rebuild it with one of these motherboards and a modern LCD screen. It could also be used as an always-on computer that never sleeps and draws almost no power. This device runs the same software stack as my desktop machine (Debian), so I would already be familiar with it. Now if somebody wants to put together a case with an LCD, keyboard and an AA compartment, I'll pay three times as much for that. I wonder how powering it works. They say it uses 5 volts, but if you power it from AA batteries, what happens when your AAs start going dead and the voltage drops off? Would the device shut down automatically, or does there have to be some circuitry to switch off when power drops too low? What about the fact that 4 AAs gives you (1.5 volts X4)? 4 rechargeable AAs will give about (1.2 volts x4)

  7. We build hard drives that last a decade, but we can't build an air matress that lasts over a year.

  8. Can you ask me some not too hard question in italian so I could try an answer it. Something like getting to know each other but in italian. Parlare solo italliano!

  9. What's going on with the Thi4f forums? They've been down for almost a week now.

Well that's not going to work. If they can't post about Thi4f on the Thi4f forums they can come and post about TDM on the TDM forums.

People thought it was the server migration under Square-Enix that we've been told about, but they came back online like nothing happened, and the dedicated thread about the coming migration had no new info.

      Can't see this?:

"for some reason" I imagine is you being sarcastic as we all know everybody and their brother/sister are online on Sunday either shopping or looking at porn combined with all the gaming packets.

I'm sure there are also people just "reading things for the articles" though...

    Forums fixed

Had a problem with the web server yesterday that led to a crashed table in the forum database. This has now been repaired and things seems to work again. I was on travel so it took a while before I was able to fix it. Merry Christmas!
  12. I can get on the main forum now but still get an error when trying to load posts. Anyone else?

  13. Just wanted to say, Hello! From reading through various posts in the forums it seems like a great community and I hope to become a part of it. So I got the hankering for some Thief as of late and stumbled on TDM through some googling. After purchasing Doom 3 through Steam and instaling TDM, I have been nostalgiacly playing through many of the FMs and have also decided to d/l the Radiant editor and start making a mission, maybe many, we'll see. As it turns out also, I just started (today!) my 1 week vacation from work and intend to dive in to the Radiant editor and am currently going through the A-Z wiki on it. A bit of background on me, I 'used' to work in application support till the economic crash a couple years ago and was laid off and am now running a machining center at a local machine shop, using Mastercam daily, 2D/3D stuff and have always wanted to make a mission/game, and decided since I've always enjoyed the Thief series and stealth gameplay so much, this is where I would start. After getting to my third year in Mechanical Technology I changed my major to Information Technology (should have went with straight Computer Science but ahhh hindsight). I've always loved building things and designing things and also really enjoy computers, art, audio, and the entire visual experience as presented to a user. I have created a couple playable maps before using the older source engine editor so I'm vaguely familiar with 3D modeling, skyboxes, lighting, AI pathing, etc. That's been over 10 years ago though. I got familiar with 3dsmax, ProE, Autocad, and Mastercam in my first major during school so that helps a bit when familiarizing with a new editor and as previously mentioned I've dabbled around in the Valve Source editor. I'm also very much looking forward to the Crucible of Omens campaign created by the marvelous talent at TDM and would like to help in any way I can once I'm familiar with the Radiant engine. I can also do many many voices, I've often thought about moving out to Cali from Indiana and finding work in voice-overs, voice acting, etc. All this started as a youngster with little friends, time on my hands, and imaginary friends. Wow that's hard to admit. So anyway, I've been working on a shadowy Garrett voice, and can do guards and some women characters with old, old english, gruff, slippery, sneaky, terrifying, voices and personalities. Just thought I'd mention that as it may be a way that I could contribute early on and would also enjoy. So anyway, too much about me and not enough A-Z wiki, back to the tutorial! Glad to be here and hope for good things to come.
