  1. I just have to build a courtyard and then I've finished all the building work on the manor for The Angel's Tear which is the prequil to the Vengeance for a Thief Maps. The manor is bloody massive! A Hell of a lot bigger then I orinally intended. Hopefully it will provide a few hours of fun.

There's 6 pictures in the What Are You Working on Thread. I don't want to spoil any more of the map.

  5. Everning I got a request over on the ttlg forums for some voice work, and primarity we need someone who is a native on the above locations to do some english lines. ta.
  6. I'm posting this here because in my current emotional state (I'm pretty damn angry! ) I believe that I am incapable of making a rational decision. I've also been posting here since pretty much the birth of TDM and I really appreciate the insights and opinions of the very well educated regular posters that frequent this forum. A couple of weeks ago some chap that was helping me out left for a better a job and I got a replacement, a chap in his mid twenties. We got on very well. He had a good work ethic and provided interesting and well thought out conversation. Pretty much all I ask for in a work colleague. The only problem is that he over steps intimate physical boundaries. In my office (I'm sure it's the same in most work places) there is a no physical contact rule. Unless someone invites you to physically touch them eg someone offers you their hand to shake it, then in under no circumstances whatsoever do you lay a finger on another work colleague. I would also never lay a finger on anyone outside the office without their consent and would expect the same from anyone else. At first this started out as him sneaking up behind me and tickling me. I took this as a playful sign of expression, nevertheless I did explain to him the rules and told him that I did not like this. I could tell that he was not taking me seriously and he continued. As I did not consider this to be physical assault and a physical display off affection (even though it overstepped personal and work policy boundaries) I did not consider it a need to be reported. I still did tell him not to do this every time he did even though I could he was not taking me seriously. Things soon escalated. Last week I took a day off for a minor op and needed stitches. The next day when I returned to the office the young man in question for no reason at all slapped me hard on the back very near to where I had my stitches. To be fair he didn't no I had stitches but but I could tell things were escalating from tickling to more aggressive forms of intimacy. Again I let it slide as no physical harm was technically done and I saw it more as a sign of affection. Yesterday things escalated to a whole new level. I get into work at 7am and the young man in question gets in at 8am. At 8am I was sitting my desk working on my PC with my headphones in listening to music. I did not hear him come in and he walked up to me from behind and slapped me hard across the face with his security pass. Enraged I stood up and started swearing at him like a trooper. How I managed not to punch his light out I'll never know. Somehow behind that rage I still had the sense to know that the short term benefit of getting physical revenge would not be worth the long term suffering of loosing my job and having to find employment elsewhere. Plus the potential of getting a criminal record for assault. To add salt to the wound he refused to apologize and spent the whole morning laughing about it. It was only when I told him at lunch time that I was considering accusing him of physical assault that he apologized. Even now I still get the impression that he thinks I'm over reacting. We have had no arguments or anything while he's been working here and the slap in the face literally came out of nowhere. As these physical encounters are clearly escalating I'm understandably concerned as to where they could go. Should I report this person for assault or am I overeacting here? What if I say nothing and he assaults another work colleague to a more serious degree? That would make me somewhat responsible as I knew he was capable of violence but didn't say anything. I believe I have a moral obligation to report this so as to protect the potential physical well being of my fellow employees as well as myself. Am I over reacting as he says or should this type of behavior not be tolerated?

I've been considering reinstalling TDS for a wile now... I've still got my original CDs. Have these guys fixed the bug where you get stuck floating? Last time I played TDS, that happened and I was unable to get out of it, so I ragequit.

      chakkman

You can surpass that bug by drawing your bow, performing a shot, and draw your blackjack when the bow is tensioned, to abort the bow shot. I'm hoping it's fixed in the Gold patch too though. Alongside the thing where you move sideways, when peeking left or right.

I hope the gameplay is unique to justify him reinventing the wheel instead of, e.g., just forking off of us. The art design looks good.

  8. There is an own topic for FTL, but what other Roguelikes people around here play? I played Nethack in the past, but for modern standards, it feels a bit clunky, and the learning curve is very harsh. You learn the risk-level of every monster by getting killed by it. Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup is one of my favourites, in addition to FTL. It very easily approached and witholds no information. You get a lot of data of enemies by looking at them, and features a nice mouse driven UI. It combines the best parts of Nethack but is very user friendly. There is an android app, too, so you can play it on the run! Highly recommended! Tome4 (Tales of Maj'Eyal) I tried just recently (yesterday). It is highly appreciated and has won several roguelike contests, but I have a bit mixed feelings about it. Sure it is pretty, and has particle effects, sound effects, beautiful artwork, and all but... I dunno, the DD4 edition-style character-power-based gameplay with no consumables feels a bit too simplified for me. Consumables have always been like an ace in the sleeve of the player. Powers work like in FTL: you use, for example, the shield bash skill, and it returns after a cooldown period. The UI is very user friendly, but still there is something about this game that puts me off. It was very easy in the beginning: so easy it was almost frustrating. Then suddenly a level 23 monster appeared and killed me. The monster did not look much different from the lvl 4-6 fodder I bashed down with impunity. It may be I haven't learned to ropes yet, but somehow encountering new baddies in Dungeon Crawl always provoked fear. I probably got desensitized by the too easy start of Tome4. Will play more later.

  9. Hi guys. I’m looking at some tracker issues in the hope of providing some useful patches to grayman and greebo. For this one I could do with advice from mappers who've used objectives in plenty of ways I've never thought of! Should a target_setobjective_amount give the mapper any control other than the new "amount" requirement? The other objective-affecting targets (addobjectives, setobjective_state, setobjective_visibility, setobjective_component_state) don't have extra spawnargs to let the mapper control whether there's a HUD message or anything else. The one exception is setobjective_state which lets you add an "unlatch_irreversible_objectives" spawnarg so you can choose whether to undo irreversible objectives. Would a target_setobjective_amount need any? I guess "unlatch_irreversible_objectives" is relevant to this one too, as the default behaviour should probably be: undo a completed objective if the required amount gets raised above what the player has achieved, except if it's an irreversible objective. The lazy way to go about this kind of thing is to add a dozen spawnargs/options so every mapper has to look them up and answer the questions for themselves, but it'd be better to take the cue from the existing targets and implement just the most useful behaviour instead. Any thoughts on how it should work?
  10. Anyone familiar with trigger_presize who might explain how to use it? It's description is identical to trigger_multiple, "Variable sized repeatable trigger." How does it differ? Why does it exist in addition to other triggers? Where/when would a mapper want to use it? What spawnargs are used with it? I actually find not a single forum post or wiki reference to it other than my placeholder in the trigger wiki page on it, which is no help whatsoever. ;-) Appreciate any insights please! PS: Note to self, I do notice unlike trigger_multiple, it doesn't use worldspawn brush boundaries, but comes in at 128x32.
  11. Anyone familiar with trigger_hurt who might explain how to use it? The benefits of using it instead of simply applying a damage stim to an existing entity? The cons? Is it obsolete? Any particularly useful spawnargs associated with it? Do different damage defs do different things (aside from the obvious numerical magnitude)? Are they explained anywhere? The current wiki page on it is no help whatsoever. ;-) Appreciate any insights please!
  12. Maybe it's a good idea to collect all console commands etc in one topic? like this one: and others like add/remove indicators and important command lines..

  14. My boss told me off today. he said I have to do more work and spend less time talking to the new little redhead girl. The thing is, whenever I make her laugh or smile, I feel like my heart explodes and enough fireworks detonate to blow the houses of parliment to the moon.

  15. So I've been complaining about this and that here and there and haven't yet taken the time to deliver some very deserved praise. Shame on me. So here it is, my thank you thread. (I don't mind if others use this thread for the same end. It's always good to have less threads saying the same thing, right?) Some back story: I've been craving for a proper stealth game for years, and thief seemed like it was dead (and in two weeks we'll probably confirm it really is). I tried replaying thief 1 and 2, but during the first mission I just couldn't keep going. For some reason, even though I nearly worship certain old games, I just can't play them. I tried my most favorites, such as thief, Strife, DK, JA2, XCOM Apocalypse, Pizza Tycoon, GTA. Carmageddon... to name just a few, and I just can't keep going past the first level, and I don't really know why. Not even Thief 3... but in this case it's maybe because I replayed it a couple of times before and I burned out. Modern stealth games don't really cut it for me (frowning at you Dishonored). Either the stealth elements are just dumb and stupid (AC, a stealth game??), or a plain fudge like Betheda's thieving (isn't all bad, but........... it's bad). So, modern games, bollocks. Back to old games. Oh wait, I can't play them... Though dilemma. I could keep going if I was playing a proper remake. If a modern game brings back the feel of the old one, I'm a happy panda! I couldn't play the new XCOM for too long, it's not bad game, but the XCOM title makes me expect a proper tactical game, I couldn't play Jagged Alliance 3, and these are way worse in comparison to the new XCOM, I want my money back from Duke Forever... I couldn't stand Doom 3 even (which is why I hadn't tried, nor looked into, TDM before - I could go on all day about how bad D3 is, so don't tempt me - same with Oblivion). I've been craving for something to chew on, and found nothing at all. Found plenty of messed up crap . And none of it are stealth games... So I'm feeling like I'm going "down the shi'er". Then I found TDM. And this is what I found so great about TDM, is that it feels like thief (it kinda lacks that Josh Randall music style though :S). At first I barely even noticed the differences (the ones that prevent copyright issues), I just felt like I was playing thief! Another interesting thing was that I read the gameplay article on the wiki and learned that there were guards with helmets, but they fit so nicely into the game that I only noticed them after I crossed paths with them quite a few times. The lockpicking mechanics didn't feel out of place either. Everything so far seems to fit perfectly into the game. I not only want to thank you for the mod, but I also want to congratulate you on the execution of it. The voice acting is amazing, very... natural. And oh, am I a voice acting critic.... I keep destroying bethesda on this subject (and many other subjects) whenever I can, and I praise Valve endlessly for it. I try to be fair, but it's something I take as very important in games, and not a lot of games get it right. I must congratulate the voice actors here (I'm not yet fully aware of who they are). Other than that, aesthetics are also really good (textures, models, etc - non-mapper stuff). I wouldn't expect this level of standards when considering taking a look at a mod. I might not find this level of quality a few years back, but to be fair that wouldn't hurt my opinion. I like good graphics, but to me it's by far not as important as the gameplay and sounds. That said, it's still surprisingly good. Also, that said, the mapper sided stuff seems to be doing very well. The standards here blossom some really good quality and good looking stuff. So I found a "remake" of one of my most favorite games ever, which looks amazing, plays very solidly, feels pretty much like the original, and has entertained me for a lot of hours already. Plus, it's on a BSP engine (quake based? I don't know if doom engine is based on quake's engine per se, but seems too similar), which I happen to be quite acquainted with, and that allows me to scratch my mapping itch that I had nagging me since Valve destroyed my beloved HL2dm for which I was mapping for a few years (and where the mapping quality standards where as good as the bottom of my toilet after I let go of a generous, reeking torpedo). What else could I ask? I'm sort of living the nostalgia of my teenage years with this game. For all that and more, thank you all so much. PS: Now I just need Jagged Alliance:Flashback, Carmageddon 4 and War For The Overworld to be some proper remakes/reboots, and I'll have all I need to morph into a teenager for real. And someone in this freaking world should remake Strife!
  16. Seems with the amount of knowledge here that many of us here would have a computer related income. Not I, my primary income has nothing to do with using computers. My side work is sound engineering. Now if I could turn that into the breadwinner I'd be a happy goose.
