  1. I've noticed that sometimes the last line of a readable is missing (at least, I have to infer this from other information, because the text just stops short), and I remember having particular problems with the "Heart of Lone Salvation", because I seem to remember that some of the readables there are particularly important. Here's I think another example of the same problem, from the description of "A night to remember", this is from the in-game mission downloading screen before downloading the mission: Note that the last line of text reads And like always, she promises that this one I presume the text is truncated, it stops short at the end of the page, and I can't find any key or button presses to view the next page. In this case it looks like dodgy line breaks in the rest of the text have forced this. I'll keep my eyes open for other examples. My screen size is 1920x1200, 16:10 aspect ratio.
  2. So I was having this same problem but only with the training mission (not downloaded any Fan Missions yet). Teas of St Lucia loaded fine, but the training mission just dumped me back to the objectives screen once it had finished loading. Disabling EAX fixed my issue. I'm running a Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi Fatal1ty, the old PCI version with a front panel breakout box rather than the newer PCI-e version. This is on Windows 7 64 bit. The thing is, if I disable EAX then the game won't detect more than Stereo sound from my system. When I try and change the value I get told 'Unable to load 3D audio. Surround sound speakers not found'. I've got a 7.1 surround sound setup here, configured as such in the Windows control panel section for speakers and audio. Windows will do a speaker test with sound from each speaker individually, and every other game detects it just fine. When in the TDM menus I just get sound out of the front speakers. When I load into a game level I certainly get *sound* from the centre and rear speakers, but i'm having trouble telling if it's actually doing positional audio or whether it's just outputting the 'left' sound out of all 3 left speakers equally and the 'right' sound out of the right 3.
  3. What do I need to do to get surround (5.1) sound working? When I click on "STEREO" in the audio settings I get the following message UNABLE TO LOCATE 3D AUDIO Surround speakers not found. Make sure the speaker settings are configure properly in the Windows Control Panel. I believe I have configured my speaker settings properly in the Windows Control Panel. I have attached a screen capture of the error message and the relevant control panel windows. I'm running a Swedish Windows Installation, but I think the images will speak for themselves. The following is printed to the console when I try to change the speaker layout in TDM, and the complete console output is available in the attachments. Shutting down sound hardware sound: hardware reported unable to use multisound, defaulted to stereo sound: STEREO condump_soundFail.txt As can be seen in the console output, I have tried to fiddle around with the s_numSpeakers variable, but I will have to do some more reading and testing before I can say anything conclusive about that. Is this a direction that is worthwhile to explore further? In other threads about audio problems, e.g., http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/15121-headset-not-recognized-can-only-play-in-stereo/page__hl__surround__fromsearch__1, there is talk about OpenAL and third-party software installation. Is this required for 5.1 speaker systems? I would prefer to not install anything that would risk breaking other things. I have a 5.1 surround sound setup where audio is passed through the HDMI port of a graphics card to a Onkyo home theater receiver. I get proper 5.1 sound both while playing Skyrim and playing videos with Windows Media Player. System: Windows 7, 64bit NVIDIA GTX 580, driver version 314.07 Onkyo TX-NR609-1 Please ask if you need additional details. // Martin
  4. A solution I use has been really effective, which uses a simple script through AutoHotKey. 1. To do this, download and run AutoHotkey_L_Install.exe (I use 64bit myself, no reason this shouldn't work for 32bit I'm guessing) Copy this code below: (I have tried to find the original source for this code, but can't find it so apologies for not being able to give the credit to whoever I found this from!) ;-Caption LWIN & LButton:: WinSet, Style, -0xC40000, A WinMove, A, , 0, 0, 1920, 1080 return ; ;+Caption LWIN & RButton:: WinSet, Style, +0xC40000, A return ; 2. Run your favorite text editor (Notepad) and paste the code into a new document and save it as WindowedFullscreen.AHK (Or whatever_you_want_it_to_be_called.AHK, not a .TXT! You can run this from any folder too.) It is probably a good idea to change the resolution numbers in bold to whatever resolution you run Dark Mod in by changing 1920, 1080 to your game's resolution, but I don't think it matters as I set Dark Mod to 16:9 1280x720 and it still fills my screen running a desktop resolution of 1920x1080. 3. Run WindowedFullscreen.AHK by double clicking it and AHK will load the script. AHK should display as a running program down by your clock in the taskbar. (green icon with a white 'H') 4. Now load up Dark Mod and in the video/general settings change Fullscreen to No and restart the game. 5. Dark Mod should now be in windowed mode. Now make sure that the game is the main active window and hold down your Windows Key on the keyboard and click your left mouse button. This should remove the window border and title bar and... well... make Dark Mod fullscreen-windowed mode! Hold down the Windows Key and click the right mouse button to set the window border and title bar back again! This also works for other games and programs too, even Firefox. I use this for Minecraft and loads more that have the option to run in a window! This works for me, please let me know if this doesn't work for you! I hope this helps!
  5. It's the normalmaps which are the big hit. They are RGBA, the combination of image_useNormalCompression 2 and image_useCompression 1 will mean that at load time they are converted from RGBA->DXT5 with the swizzle, which is very heavy computationally (could be lightened a bit if we borrowed some code from amd). image_useNormalCompression 2 is however required as there are a _few_ DDS files for normalmaps, and without it they are either flat or black, depending on magic that I can't quite remember. TDM however does have 99% of the diffuse/specular textures as DDS, so no harm there.
  6. The system is 32 bit Fedora Linux 19 with Xfce, on a laptop that isn't exactly gaming, with intel graphics but the errors aren't related to poor gl implementation from intel. I've downloaded the game from this torrent: https://thepiratebay...torrent/9024163 that I've found on one of threads here. All seems well after download but when I start the game I must go to tty2 and manually ps and kill the process because it's just black screen and music and I can't/didn't find the way to quit it. It's as if all fonts and gui assets are missing. I get hundreds of warnings such as WARNING:Couldn't load image: guis/assets/mainmenu/downloadable_mission_details WARNING:Couldn't load image: guis/assets/mainmenu/oldparchment_backdrop6 related to either fonts or guis. Updater in the torrent says it's up to date. Updater from site when ran in ~/darkmod/ first updates itself then too says game is up to date: [frex@localhost darkmod]$ ./tdm_update.linux TDM Updater v0.61 (c) 2009-2013 by tels & greebo. I attach(because it's too long to paste comfortably) the file to which I redirected stdout when launching the game, in case it's actually my laptop or intel card that is causing this problem. darkmodout.txt
  7. I have this issue, the screen goes black after the initial briefing for missions. I haven't been able to pay anything except for the training mission. I use an Nvidia card, there is no options relating to "edge detection".. I guess I could use the work-around of deleting the .cfg every time, but it'd be a giant hassle to rebind all my keys and change settings again. I'm open to any other suggestions, if anyone has any.
  8. Hello everybody, I'm RS-STALKER and I just joined. I have to say what you guys did with this mod is simply amazing, nothing short of brilliant. Every single one of you who worked o this mod is awesome and I simply love it. However I do have some problems and hope some of you guys might help. Some fan missions won't start, I haven't tried all of them but I have run into two fan missions that won't start. One is Alberic's curse where no loading screen comes up, and the mission simply won't start. Another is the mission, Business as usual, the game freezes and crashes every time I try to play that mission, particularly when i press the start mission button. I have noticed though, And I don't know if this might be the problem, that both these missions have a introductory screen with the fancy arrows and "X" at the bottom. No other mission that I've played (that worked) had such an introductory screen, But the mission that I did want to play that did have that particular introductory screen, wont work because the loading screen just won't show. If any of you guys have some solutions I implore to please share it, cause I'd really like to play these missions I have windows 7, 64 bit, nvidia GTX 560 graphics card, core i5 intel cpu, and 8 GB of ram, and currently using the dark mod version 2.0
  9. I actually don't care for screen tearing most of the time, but sometimes its a bit too obvious and explicit! That's when it bother me a little....but I guess for now I am just gonna keep it off... How do I use the extra buffering? Is there a cvar for it?(I am too lazy to look for it right now! )
  10. I have to agree with this problem! I have pretty decent PC that can run this game maxed out with < 30% GPU usage! I am using Radeon 7950 3GB @ 960/1250 and turning on VSync, drop the framerate to 30fps all the time...its a double buffered VSync...without VSync like the OP mentioned, the screen tearing is horrendous and unbearable! I tried forcing Triple Buffering and VSync externally using D3DOverrider but it doesn't seem to work!
  11. Goog Evening I just loaded Dark Mod like an hour ago, and got this Problem with the missing Textures or missing dynamic light not shure, and the Smoke being just black squares. And i know there is another thread with about the same Problem, but i have the 2.0 standalone and as far as i understood i dont have to install doom to play this one, so the other thread is not realy helping me either. I tried about every button in my settings and i followed the faq Textures are missing, screen mostly black Look into your darkmod.cfg inside your darkmod folder and check that the following settings are like shown below: seta image_usePrecompressedTextures "1" seta image_useNormalCompression "2" seta image_useAllFormats "1" seta image_useCompression "0" seta image_preload "1" even if im not sure thats the same problem. if that faq entry would be the right one, i looked in the DXDIAG, but there is no way to change anything in there. Textures are missing, shadows are pitch black Try disabling the AGP surface accelerator in DXDIAG. So non of the things i tried did change anything so please help me to fix this. MFG DamKoVosh Edit: P.S. the screen is much darker then its supposed to be, but the only thing u should see is some things having textures, while others havent.
  12. Rather than necro couple year old thread I figured I should just make a new post in case others had the same issue I was and couldn't find an answer. I had the issue a couple months ago when I got Doom3 to try it and decided to give up figuring it was something with Steam version etc. Trying the Stand Alone 2.0 I had the same issue. I was able to launch the game and change game settings (which were muddied) but after I chose to restart the game the screen would be black and could hear the flicking over menu options with the mouse. In order to see the game again I had to delete darkmod.cfg (and run tdm_update.exe to replace it). After looking through old posts (and trying one? FAQ) I couldn't find the answer but did figure out through trial and error that Anti-aliasing was the issue. I have an AMD 5850 and in the Control Center>Gaming>3D Applicating Settings I found that under Anti-aliasing the Filter "EDGE DETECT" was the issue. I could set it to Wide Tent or Box and leave all the other settings alone and The Dark Mod would work. Hopefully if you have the issue you can find something similar in your cards settings. Also for me at least aliasing is limited to x8 in game so just set it to that instead of x16 just in case. The other little issue I had was the training mission not downloading and Tears of St. Lucia not loading after a save. However trying to download training mission and restarting did clear up the muddied menu settings. Anyway found out I had to rename and move the folder which I had so far left where it downloaded. So moving it to C:\games and renaming it simply "darkmod" (and probably running tdm_update.exe which was down the previous day) solved those issues. I don't appear to have any other issues so thanks to the folks who made this! hoping to dive in asap!
  13. You havent listed your full system specs, driver version or screen resolution. Also after a quick look online the Intel G41 (X4500) is the same speed as an old Radeon 9800pro. I'm surprised TDM is running on that card at all, back in the day the 9800 was only just capable of running vanilla D3 @1280*1024 @30fps. Is this PC your playing a Laptop or a desktop..? Also it looks like Intel are upto thier old tricks in of offloading GPU processing to the CPU and if its doing the same thing in TDM then your in-game experience will suffer.
  14. I installed 13-9_win7_win8_64_dd_ccc_whql ( cleaned with driver sweeper too ) and no improvement. With "vsync off", the screen tearing is so big ( on my PC ), that I can not concentrate on the game : (
  15. I'm trying to move the TDM window to my main monitor but it's stuck half way, any way to force it to main? Full screen will also extend the window across both screens. Screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/zMpdXSz.jpg Edit: Press ~ to open the console, this will free the cursor, so you can drag it to the appropriate monitor.
  16. Thanks Obsttorte I used Func_fracture on the first and when it breaks up the frame rate goes to 1-2 fps for 4-6 secs as the pieces brake up and fall to fade. Screen shot of bottom in DR: Screen shot of top in DR: Screen shot of bottom in game: Screen shot of top in game: I've changed the sounds to suit what it is. An ice shelf, With a broken bit that can be destroyed when damaged. Why is it hollow in game? I wounder how I can make it look right in game, It's not bad but would be better if it looked solid and dense.
  17. I've been catching up on TDM missions lately and after I install the mission, I get a Game Error like this at the load screen, "ID AF ENTITY_BASE LOAD AF: couldn't load AF file 'env_skeleton' on entity 'atdm_env_ragdoll_skeleton_1'. What's causing this and how can I repair it? Thanks!
  18. Playing Dishonored and Bioshock games convinced me that spotlights can truly add up the visuals, so I decided to use a lot of spotlights in my WIP. To my disappointment, I noticed a weird anomaly in rendering when the player is under a spot light. See this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zVH1feOXdrA&feature=youtu.be When I am roughly below the spotlight, look down in an 45 degree angle and approach the center of the light spot on the ground, the spotlight crops in an ugly way (@3 seconds) from the botton of the screen and from the sides. When I approach the light spot from a different angle, there are no problems. This makes me reluctant to use spotlights as they seem bugged. Any ideas what is causing this? Is it a general problem in TDM renderer? A video setting combination? Or something specific to my hardware? Do others get it too? Please check. You can copy paste the same test map from the spoilers. See from the video how it manifests and try to see if it happens for you as well. I tried to get a screenshot of this, but the screenshots look fine. Luckily video capture was able to get the effect "on tape." I have an ATI Radeon HD 4800 video card, and the catalyst AI is disabled. I tried to fiddle with antialiasing, vsync, interaction shader and other video settings (from the TDM video menu), but it seems it happens no matter what settings I have.
  19. I run MSI afterburner and have a gigabyte graphics card. It is a good app for capturing video, screen shots or overclocking and displaying real time data on the screen for the active graphics card/cards and will work with most cards. I have found one weird bug where if I select the compass in TDM the OSD ( on screen display ) moves the OSD type on the screen temporarily as if I changed the display resolution. It does not seem to effect anything really but it's curious and needs to be seen. I tried to take a screen shot and it's not working properly. This is what I end up with but not what is displayed on screen during play: https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=F7539D361BD41522!188&authkey=!AIBZiw_9kt8S8Mc
  20. Hi there, I used to play TDM on my Macbook running Snow Leopard a couple of years ago. Absolutely loved it. This other day i wanted to try it again, since a lot has happened both with the mod itself but also the great fan-submitted missions available. Alas, I ran into problems. I have tried every step provided to make 1.08 work (As described here) but cannot seem to get TDM running. Actually, i get the first TDM splash screen but shortly afterwards it crashes. So, my question is if there is anyone else on the forum who have the same issues? Is it even possible to run TDM 1.08 on OSX Mountain Lion? If not, are there any active mirrors for downloading older versions (i.e. 1.07)? I tried the ones linked but they all seem to be down. Would greatly appreciate any help, Best regards, Daniel
  21. Remade it a few more times, without success. There are no unusual spawnargs on the door either. Using r_showportals shows that the engine thinks it is open (green) when you're inside the room, though the entire portal is black. From the other side, r_showportals shows nothing. What concerns me is that I don't think I did anything to this area when I was updating the map. edit: good news...it has the same problem in 1.08.
  22. After I edited a map file in a .pk4 archive, my main menu has gone missing. When I start TDM, I only get a black screen, then when I click the usual background pops up, but all menus are missing. I hear interface click sounds, but nothing else. Anyone else had this happen before?
  23. Okay, so I have this issue as well. My computer is a 2011 iMac with OSX 10.6.8. I downloaded Doom 3 from the App Store, installed Malex' version of TDM and went to play. I used the TDM icon to start the game. However, there is no dynamic lighting and instead of smoke there's black boxes. When I try to launch TDM from inside Doom 3, the application just quits, not even an error message. When I launch TDM from the icon and quit, it gives an error message that Doom 3 suddenly stopped working. I already tried reinstalling TDM and reinstalling Doom 3. Neither of those worked. Here's the error log: http://pastebin.com/eu5g3XYE What it looks like is that it can't find a bunch of assets (I'm guessing these are contained within Doom 3). My Doom 3 was installed into the main applications folder rather than my personal folder, maybe that's a problem? Any help is appreciated, this looks like an absolutely fantastic mod! EDIT: So I looked at it again, and I didn't patch the game. When trying to patch, it said the game was installed incorrectly, with the following error message: The installation of Doom 3 (located at ~/Library/Application Support/Doom 3/darkmod) is not valid. Install Doom 3 again to fix this problem. Also, in console the version number is like 5636. I currently have tried to completely remove Doom 3 (both the Application Support folder and the actual App), and am now trying to reinstall it. EDIT2: Okay, so I reinstalled Doom. The version number is 1.3.1.1304, so it ought to be the right version. I'm now going to reinstall TDM following Malex' instructions to a T and see if that magically solves my problem.
  24. So I decided to play a FM on my desktop today and suddenly there are no dynamic lights in any of the maps. Ambient lights work fine, but all torches show no light and there are black boxes where the torch smoke should be. I didn't do anything that I can think of that would have caused this...
  25. Perhaps a note regarding this should be added to the in-game mission load page GUI...at the bottom of the screen.
