  1. Hi, I've tried to run TDM-2.0 downloaded via torrent (not from TDM website, it wasn't available there at that time) on my gentoo-x64 box. I've fixed a relative path problem by renaming the game's folder to "darkmod", but now it prints lots of errors like "WARNING:Couldn't load image: guis/assets/mainmenu/buttons_loadsave/loadmission" on startup. It finds all files in the search path, but can't load the images. The menu screen is completely black. Sound works fine, I can hear the feedback when I hover the mouse over a button. I guess not being able to see anything has to do with those image loading failures, right? Any idea how I can solve them? I've deleted the Darkmod.cfg and re-ran the updater, but that didn't solve the problem.
  2. Bumping this thread. Similar circumstances; I set key bindings in the game, play for a bit, then quit. When I come back, they're all mixed up in some layout that I've never seen. Here's the diff of the keybinds, before and after starting the game again: # diff DarkmodKeybinds.cfg DarkmodKeybinds\ \(copy\).cfg 5,7d4 < bind "APOSTROPHE" "_impulse44" < bind "w" "_impulse45" < bind "v" "_forward" 18,19c15,16 < bind "SEMICOLON" "_impulse0" < bind "]" "_impulse47" --- > bind "SEMICOLON" "inventory_use '#str_02396'" > bind "]" "_impulse49" 21,30c18,28 < bind "=" "_impulse49" < bind "j" "inventory_hotkey '#str_02397'" < bind "e" "_impulse23" < bind "." 3. This may have been asked before but I didn't find it Whenever I take a screen shot I always have to lighten in to make the detail visible and looking at other posts it seems I am not alone in seeing this effect I suppose the next question is - can this be fixed
  4. Hi everyone, my first post here. I've been playing this game for a long time, and I'd like to start by thanking you all for your amazing work. After years of problem free TDM gaming, I recently upgraded to a new PC. I was really looking forward to playing some of my favourite missions on a better rig. Unfortunately, I encountered a problem. I start the game, select a mission and press start. When the loading bar finishes, and it says 'mission loaded, please wait', I get a blue screen of death and the PC resets. My PC works normally otherwise, and other games run fine. I tried out a few different missions, and I also tried some different graphics settings, but the problem is the same. I looked in the FAQ but couldn't find anything relevant to my issue; I tried a search too with the same results. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My PC's specs are: Windows 7 N 64-bit SP1 Intel Core i3 4370 @ 3.80GHz 8.00GB RAM MSI H81M-E33 motherboard 2GB NVIDA GeForce 610 The error message from event viewer was: The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x00000116 (0xfffffa8008d08010, 0xfffff8800f3b793c, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000002). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: . Unfortunately, I cannot find the .dmp file.
  5. Yes, the problem happens no matter the Window manager or DPI settings. Strangely, you can temporarily get it working with a fresh start of a small mission like Closemouthed Shadows but after about a minute of roaming the mission the viewport will occupy the bottom left corner of the screen at a percentage matching the resolution scale percent...
  6. Woo! I just reduced my internal resolution to 65% and applied 4x MSAA and there are almost no crawling artifacts now! Edit: Hmm... Trouble in paradise. Restarting TDM causes any fbo resolution change to shrink the percentage of rendered screen area if MSAA is enabled. I will try other window managers to see if this problem persists.
  7. There are two ways of using multisampling in OpenGL. The "older" one is to ask OS for multisampled default framebuffer. It must be done during OpenGL initialization, and can surely depend on OS and window manager, and uses OS-specific functions and settings. The "newer" one is to ask OpenGL for multisampled off-screen framebuffer. This framebuffer is newer visible directly. It is completely unrelated to OS: a pure OpenGL call. And it has nothing to do with windows. That's what TDM uses since 2.07 at least. It is strange if multisampling in TDM depends on windows manager. It should be more of a driver issue.
  8. I just installed tdm, and I clicked on the exe, when it loaded, the screen is all black, and what I assume is the main menu music is playing, with no video or graphics in the slightest. Any help is appreciated, thanks.
  9. The engine always supplies the "system textures" in absence of diffuse/normal/specular textures, so should get a black texture, which multiplied by model's vertex color should give black, I guess.
  10. Hi guys, Sorry if this has been asked before; I couldn't find anything when I searched. I have two 19" monitors connected to my Linux laptop which has a nVidia card. When the secondary monitor is a duplicate of the primary, TDM runs fine at the native resolution (1280x1024), and I can see the game running duplicated on both monitors. But when the secondary monitor is set to be the extended desktop (at the right of the primary), TDM starts with blank screen, both monitors reporting "no signal". I can hear the music and mouse sound effects. Hitting the console key and tying exit shuts down the game, but the monitors don't recover. The only way is killing xserver or force-fully shutting the machine. Simply turning off the second monitor before starting the game doesn't help, same behaviour happens. This is quite inconvenient as I basically have to keep my second monitor disabled in order to be able to play TDM. Is there any way to have extended desktop and have TDM run on the primary monitor? Spec: TDM 2.03 (already made sure all the files validate and are up to date) Linux Mint 17.3 (64 bit), Cinnamon desktop Dell Precision M4500, 2 x IntelĀ® Core i7 CPU Q 740 @ 1.73GHz, 4GB RAM NVIDIA Corporation GT215GLM [Quadro FX 1800M] (rev a2), running driver 340.96 Thanks in advance.
  11. Presumably this part is the problem? If the lighting interaction shader cannot be compiled, a black screen is likely to result.
  12. The Problem: I can see the mouse cursor and the Steam overlay when I run TDM, but otherwise the screen is black. Gauging by the audio and my ability to exit the game by a bit of careful mouse-clicking and guesstimation, it seems the game is running fine apart from the lack of video. My End of Things: Core i5, 32GB RAM, nVidia 460 2GB graphics card, 100s of GB free HDD space on a 1TB drive C. Windows 7 Ultimate. Steam version of Doom3, claiming to be the correct version for TDM. Custom shortcut to run the game: "C:\Games\Steam\Steam.exe -applaunch 9050 +set fs_game_base darkmod" Customised resolution in C:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Doom 3\darkmod\DoomConfig.cfg to 1920*1200, Disabled Threaded Optimisation in nVidia Control Panel. I made this change after having a glance at the TDM Wiki. Enabling Threaded Optimisation does not appear to have any effect. What I'm Thinking It appears the game resets DoomConfig to a display resolution of 7xx*4xx whenever I run it. I've tried to write-protect the file, but that didn't stop the game from changing it. And I'm guessing the weird resolution the game insists on is outside the range of my panel (a nice, if older, Eizo 26" with a native resolution of 1920*1200).
  13. Also, for some reason it often helps to delete darkmod.cfg after an update, so that you get a new one when you next start TDM. Worth keeping a backup of it in case that doesn't fix the black screen.
  14. Yes, try to update your video drivers. And if there is a darkmod.log in your darkmod folder, we would like to see it. Open the file with notepad and copy its content in this topic. in the following topics, you can find some other pointers: https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/search/&q=black screen&quick=1&type=forums_topic&nodes=58
  15. Nice to know that sollution works for your display monitor. Please note that warning screen is coming from your dell display monitor, not from TDM. On the following site you will find some sollutions for this warning screen from your monitor display: https://appuals.com/fix-the-current-input-timing-is-not-supported-by-the-monitor-display/ (also the sollution to change the screen resolution of a game)
  16. I have a 1080p Samsung plasma set for 1:1 pixel mapping at 1080p. When I boot up tdm at 16:9 1080p only 2/3 of the game is displayed, scaled to cover the entirety of my screen. Amd 7970 with latest driver.
  17. How about setting this screen resolution in darkmod.cfg? I dont have a big screen to test it.
  18. ***SOLVED*** See Steps Quoted in bottom post Hi, I am running Linux Mint 17.1, MATE desktop and compiz. My system (64 bit) has onboard Intel HD3000 video chip. I used the updater downloaded from the site to install the darkmod updater into a darkmod folder in home as per the instructions. I checked and my system does have the ia32-lib installed. The install seemed to go without hitch, on running the updater, files just began appearing in my darkmnod folder. However, when I try to start TDM by doubleclicking thedarkmod.x86, I hear the sounds and can hear my mouse scrolling over options and the music is playing fine. But the whole screen is black and I had to to a hard shutdown to get out. I have searched around, but only see suggestions of changing a doom config file (which I don't have with this standalone version) I also saw some mention of various screen resolutions. I am running on a laptop with a secondary monitor (laptop is closed and the laptop screen is disabled) set at 1920x1080 via VGA (HDMI port is toast) Is there something I am missing? Maybe a setting in the Darkmod.cfg file? Is there a way to get out of TDM without a hard shutdown? Some keystroke, as I try different things to see if I can get this working for my system? Here is what is in my log file, I don't see any errors: Thanks for any clues or tips!
  19. Nevermind, it's always the easiest solution that occurs to one last. I set the windows resolution to 1920x1080, which centers the screen on the 32:9 Samsung and TDM then is also centered with black bars.
  20. Red-cyan mode works on any screen, it's the only mode that does. However it messes up the colors a lot so it's less than ideal. For VR the mode that's needed is side-by-side stereoscopy, one view on each half of the screen. It doesn't even need to be rounded with lens distortion as you see in most cases, though you will need to increase the FOV by roughly 50% since the lenses only see a part of the screen in the middle so it would appear very zoomed in. The HUD also won't be visible since you generally can't see the screen edges, all panels would need to be moved around the crosshair where they're easier to see... here's how I made a VR friendly HUD in Xonotic using the builtin editor:
  21. I've a black screen when I start the training mission, I can hear the sounds but no graphics. My system specs are: Pentium IV 1.6 GHz 512 RAM 64 MB Video Card I can run Doom 3 fine, albeit with low settings and a few tweaks on the configs here and there. Were my config tweaks the problem? Or is it because of the fact that TDM doesn't have Quality options? If so, how can I fix this?
  22. Well, when playing full screen it is a black screen with a TDM mouse. When playing windowed screen it is a black screen inside a window with a TDM mouse. Here are the screenshots.
  23. So I recently updated to 2.07, one thing I noticed is that when i'm ingame now the 3d window is only a small window. I thought this was quite strange and maybe somehow a problem with the mission I was working on so I booted up an already released working on 2.06 mission and had the same problem. Then I thought well maybe the issue is that I updated from 2.06 to 2.07, maybe a fresh install will solve this problem. I downloaded a brand new fresh version of 2.07 and i'm having the exact same problem as before. The only settings I changed in the menu is that the screen size was reduced from 1920x1080 down to 1280x720 and "Fullscreen" to "no". This is the exact setup i've run for years now without any problems, however whenever I click the maximize window button on 2.07 with those settings, on a fresh install the screen does this: That 3d window in the bottom allows me to move around but for whatever reason the rest of the screen is just a static image of either the main screen menu or it's entirely black. If I have the window set to the regular size it looks fine, but as soon as I click the maximize button on the window, rather than scaling the 3d screen upto whatever it needs to be, it stays at the 1280x720 and the rest of the resolution is just a static image. So to put simply if you want to replicate this bug. 1- Load any mission 2- Set the resolution to 1280x720 3- Set fullscreen to no 4- Restart the game 5- Load the mission 6- Click the maximize button on the window If I change the resolution to 1920x1080 (my monitors default resolution) and then click maximize there are no issues, and running the game in fullscreen works fine too. This isn't a deal breaker bug, but just something new I noticed with the new version and thought it should be brought to your attention. Perhaps there are other mechanics tied into this that might cause problems.
  24. I have two screens, one bigger and one smaller. Unfortunately my hardware selects the smaller one as the primary one, which seems to translate over into some full screen applications, which then always run on the smaller screen (which uses DVI, as opposed to the larger screnn which uses HDMI). This is the case for TDM. I have taken a look through the Darkmod.cfg, but there seems to be no way to set a preferred screen or something like that. Is there any way to specify which monitor I want to play TDM on? I've got an NVidia GeForce GTS 250 and am playing on Debian testing. Selecting a primary display in the NVidia X Server Settings doesn't help.
  25. I'm noting other problems which I'll post issues for once we're up and running again. One of those is related to this one: textures for some non-frobable objects (worldspawn and func_statics) aren't being painted. The same textures will be missing through several dmaps, then suddenly they appear again, and different textures go away. It's as if a) the texture can't be found (though other surfaces with the same texture are fine) or b) the surface is behaving as if no light--not even ambient--is touching it, so it's painted black. In favor of the "texture not being found" thought is that on one load the loading screen was black, as if it couldn't be found. There are no missing texture warnings. Will file an issue with examples when we're back online.
