  1. Sorry for going somewhat off topic but I've seen this problem before in fhdoom and it can be a clue for TDM has well. When using a custom post process glsl shader, a small window at the lower left corner of the main window shows up, the effect works in the small window and the rest of the screen gets like you said. I know almost nothing about shader coding, but it could be connected to the way id tech 4 renders the screen first to 640x480 then converts it to the users screen size after. Here is one of the shaders with problems, for those that want to see it. Btw this code was not written totally by me (just made changes to try blindly convert it to fhdoom), this is a modification of a shader from Total Chaos a free game (gzDoom engine), nice game btw and credit for it should be giving to them.   2. So I just installed Dark Mod for the first time, and the first time I launched it, it was fine except for the fact that it was windowed instead of fullscreen. I changed the resolution to 1920x1080, and I think I changed the option that said "automatically open unlocked doors", and then I quit the Dark Mod so that the resolution changes would take effect. Now, whenever I restart Dark Mod, all I get is a black screen : ( I don't know what in the world is going on.. I even deleted my doomconfig.cfg file out of the darkmod folder because I figured that Dark Mod would just put a default config back in there when I started it again and it didn't detect doomconfig.cfg. However, although it did replace the file, it looks as though it kept the resolution at 1920x1080 so it didn't seem to go back to default. What's going on here? I play other mods at 1920x1080 no problem.. and I really want to play Dark Mod lol : /
  3. Playing in several different missions, it seems that black or very dark areas of the screen seem to take on a bluish-gray tinge, and stand out very strongly. This is visible in a variety of places - dark portions of wall near windows or sky; the spaces between cobblestones or other patterns and guards in shadow are especially so. It's less apparent in sections of the screen near my character, and also more apparent on the top half of my monitor than the bottom half. I've fiddled with my ingame brightness and gamma, turned the LOD up and down, recalibrated my monitor's display, and installed the most recent video drivers, but it still persists, both ingame and in screenshots. Black areas on other people's videos and screenshots appear normal, so I don't think my monitor itself is the problem. My video specs are: Video card:AMD Radeon HD 6700 Monitor: SyncMaster 920NW/920LM (I do have it set to 32bit color) I've also attached a screenshot; the wall in the mid-right of the image looks bluish-grey and is more visible than it should be.
  4. Hey guys I just installed TDM for the first time, after seeing it released as a standalone game. I am running Win 8.1 on an older pavilion g7 hp laptop with intel hd graphics and an i3 core. At first the game seemed to work, I was able to get to the main menu and even change the resolution settings. However as soon as I tried restarting the game to make the changes happen, it returned to leave me with a black screen. Just to reiterate: when I start the game now, the screen turns black, the resolution of the screen changes to 640x480 and a few seconds in I can hear the menu music and the scroll-over sounds of the buttons. I can only quit by using the Taskmanager. I tried all sorts of compatibility settings and I am running the game as administrator. in addition, I have already deleted the .ini and cfg files to let the updater download newer versions, to no avail. I appreciate any help I can get, because I really want to play TDM!
  5. First thanks for providoing such great game! Following the instruction at www.thedarkmod.com/download-the-mod/ I download the tdm_update.linux. It looks ok in updating process because no error message found. When launching the game, the screen becomes blank/ black, but the sound is playing. It looks like texture problems or something from the log below, but I am not sure. How can I fix it? My environment is lenovo t420s with debian testing. Yeah I figured it was coming from the monitor, as if it can't display the output from the PC then it wouldn't be able to display any message from it too, but for those who just get a black screen & music this might help. Hi all, I just put the 64 bit version of TDM on my machine running Zorin 15.2, I figured it's based on Ubuntu so it should be OK When I ran thedarkmod.x64 I got the intro music playing & a black screen with a pop up saying - I couldn't stop TDM & had to blip the power button to get the system to shut down. So I dug around a bit on my old windows system that ran TDM on the same monitor & found the following lines in Darkmod.cfg seta r_customHeight "1080" seta r_customWidth "1920" on the Linux system they were seta r_customHeight "600" seta r_customWidth "800" So I changed the figures to match the old windows system & tried again & it worked the training mission loads nicely I couldn't find any setting for 60hz, but as it seems to work I'm fine So I'm posting this in case anyone else has a similar issue

Clicking around leads to the game "not answering". Which brings the necessity to close it because it won't work after this anyway.   9. Can someone reproduce this bug? See screenshots - when I have finished a mission, it´s not showing the "finished" mark, even if it is finished, as you can see on the shots. It´s always the same line on screen, where the mission has no "finished" mark. Maybe something to revise in one of the next TDM-updates, if not already known/worked on?
  10. Well, I'm wondering if anyone can help me here. Here's the problem: - Installed Doom 3, patched it to 1.3.1.1304 (checked with console), also installed Resurrection of Evil. Note that I can run Doom 3 at pretty high graphics settings without any problems, so I guess I meet the hardware requirements for TDM, too. - Downloaded torrent version of TDM, extracted it into specified directory. Also downloaded some of the missions and put them into the proper directory. - Started up TDM, and at this point it still worked fine. - Chosen to install the Tutorial. The program restarts, but this time I have a black screen with only the mouse cursor visible (and it moves), and the TDM menu music playing. If I move around the cursor, I get some sound effects which I guess indicate me rolling over menu options, but of course I can't see that. - Since I can't see anything, the Exit button included, I can only leave the program by Alt-Tabbing out of it. Further attempts to run TDM (including after a reboot of the computer) produce the same black screen with working cursor and music. My specs: WinXP Intel Duo CPU E7600 @ 3.06 GHz ASUSTek motherboard 4 Gb RAM GeForce 9600 GT GPU Any help would be appreciated.

Personally I have a 3D screen and I don't play games that way for the most part, I don't even remember the last time I played a game using the 3D capability of my screen, but for VR I comprehend why people would want it. Btw idtech 3 (quake 3 engine) if i'm not mistaken has stereo capabilities perhaps someone with good knowledge of rendering code could see how it was done back then? Or even see how BFG does it? On my basic comprehension on how this stereo stuff works, it could be made by rendering two views (using two player cameras?!) with a small separation between them, then you just, interleave them for a 3D screen (like mine) or you color one view red and the other cyan for all screens, how that would be done on code is for a rendering programer to think about.
  12. Hey guys, So i have an issue that keeps happening, and after investigating all the logic possibilities, i have not clue what this is about. First, there is a room that all the inside walls appear void when looking from outside of it. When i get inside, the surfaces are rendered, but the place i come from becomes void (black). I removed ALL the visportals from that region. (From outside) (From inside- Lighting adjusted) Second, a wall used by 2 rooms also becomes invisible, but you can see the inside of the rooms from outside. When inside these rooms, everything is just fine. Then again, no visportals. Any clues? Thanks!
  13. Hi there! I bought a new PC (my old one was from 2001, so there's a lot of new stuff for me now ^^) and just installed TDM, but after starting it the title screen won't show properly. The upper left part of it takes up the whole screen, leaving only the first letters of some of the menu entries on the far right side. I guess this is a resolution problem, but I can't fix it. I already checked the graphic card drivers, tried other Windows resolution (can't change them ingame because I can't see the options menu) and tested various compability modes. The title screen stayed the same. Anyone got an idea what I'm doing wrong?   14. The system is 32 bit Fedora Linux 19 with Xfce, on a laptop that isn't exactly gaming, with intel graphics but the errors aren't related to poor gl implementation from intel. I've downloaded the game from this torrent: https://thepiratebay...torrent/9024163 that I've found on one of threads here. All seems well after download but when I start the game I must go to tty2 and manually ps and kill the process because it's just black screen and music and I can't/didn't find the way to quit it. It's as if all fonts and gui assets are missing.   15. Rather than necro couple year old thread I figured I should just make a new post in case others had the same issue I was and couldn't find an answer. I had the issue a couple months ago when I got Doom3 to try it and decided to give up figuring it was something with Steam version etc. Trying the Stand Alone 2.0 I had the same issue. I was able to launch the game and change game settings (which were muddied) but after I chose to restart the game the screen would be black and could hear the flicking over menu options with the mouse. In order to see the game again I had to delete darkmod.cfg (and run tdm_update.exe to replace it). After looking through old posts (and trying one? FAQ) I couldn't find the answer but did figure out through trial and error that Anti-aliasing was the issue. I have an AMD 5850 and in the Control Center>Gaming>3D Applicating Settings I found that under Anti-aliasing the Filter "EDGE DETECT" was the issue. I could set it to Wide Tent or Box and leave all the other settings alone and The Dark Mod would work. Hopefully if you have the issue you can find something similar in your cards settings. Also for me at least aliasing is limited to x8 in game so just set it to that instead of x16 just in case. The other little issue I had was the training mission not downloading and Tears of St. Lucia not loading after a save. However trying to download training mission and restarting did clear up the muddied menu settings. Anyway found out I had to rename and move the folder which I had so far left where it downloaded. So moving it to C:\games and renaming it simply "darkmod" (and probably running tdm_update.exe which was down the previous day) solved those issues. I don't appear to have any other issues so thanks to the folks who made this! hoping to dive in asap!
  16. Evening Atm I have a bunch of shortcuts for my various mission in my quicklanch and a main shortcut on my desktop. The mission shortcuts are as follows - E:\Darkmod\TheDarkMod.exe +set com_allowConsole 1 +set r_fullscreen 0 +set fs_currentfm campaign I would like to force the short on my desk(which i use to play a mission rather than test it) to full screen and use a specified resolution (1680*1050),I can force to full screen but not at the correct res. So my question is can I edit the shortcut to suit or perhaps run a custome config file..?
  17. I've just downloaded the updater and run it to create a fresh tdm install on my laptop (running Fedora 20), and when I run TDM it causes my login session to quit! Here's the result of running ./thedarkmod.x86 >&tdm.log: The truncated last line is how it appears in the log. The graphics card is reported as VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 4th Gen Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 06) by running lspc | grep VGA , so I guess it's pretty basic. I can't think of anything else relevant to report. Any thoughts?

  19. Do you know where to find vcrun2015? It doesn't seem to be among the other components. The video problem (the black screen) remains when I launch the game in windowed mode with low screen resolution.   20. Downloaded 2.07 update, neither the x64 launcher nor the normal x32 launcher work. The x64 launcher only gives me a black screen and then goes back to desktop. The usual x32 launcher gets me a black screen with the TDM mouse in the center and nothing more, if I click around the game goes into not responding mode and crashes as well. Tried deleting and redownloading the game but still doesn't work. Is the forum working correctly? Can't upload any files from my game directory, but I can upload the DxDiag file (it says "Error You aren't permitted to upload this kind of a file"). DxDiag_laptop.txt
  21. This just started today with my update of SVN to 15737/8388 followed by a rebuild. Some textures (not limited to the door texture shown) are painted black in-game. (Working fine prior to the latest update.) For textures on frobable items, normal highlighting appears when the item is frobbed. For textures on non-frobable items, the texture remains black regardless of distance from the object. Backing away to turn off highlighting paints the texture normally. Anyone else seeing this?
  22. I'm having a bit of trouble with my resolution settings. I had to recently reinstal my game. Doom 3 and TDM went in just fine. But everytime I load the mod, regardless of the resolution, the entire title screen is oversized so that I only see the top half of the thief and the left corner of the title menu. I've tried manually setting darkmod.cfg and creating an autoexec.cfg to 1920x1080, r_mode -1. Nothing works. If I go to windowed mode, I can get the game to display in a low resolution 480 window, but that's about it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, and keep up the good work. This is a truly amazing mod you've created.
  23. I can repeat this BUT black is resolved by quick save\load, i.e. it's only black between map start and first load. Also, I can see the quick save/load adds draw calls and tri count. Is this what you see too? If so, it's probably related to BFG-style area\portal culling changes.
  24. This matches what I’ve been seeing. Consecutive game starts w/o rebuilds might blacken the same textures, or the previously black sections might render normally and new sections turn black.
  25. That's a really poor analogy, since car mirrors are one of the core functionalities of a car. It's more like an FM being shipped with light gem being dark all the time. You seem to be great at dogmatic theories from decades ago, but you're out of touch with modern practice. That's how development works these days, for quite some time now. Project scopes change all the time. Deadlines move, people have to abandon functionalities or settle for less. They leave half-working things in the background, move items to the backlog, so they can work on them when time / client allows. There are select people that prioritize bugfixes, but again, noone in their sane mind would waste time on implementing something that makes non-critical errors critical, just to push people to work harder. And getting back to FMs and more personal projects, the practical side of things is, again, that the map can contain several thousands of entities. Missing even several of them (or missing textures, materials) is a low to medium priority fix. Might be a high priority if it's a plot item, but engine still will render a black box not sure whether it's frobabble. But technically, it still might be possible to finish the mission with a key loot model missing. If a texture or material def is missing, it will just turn black, so again, a high priority, not critical. Nothing worth crashing the game.
