  1. I have this problem as well, however I can reproduce it quite easily. 1. Install a fan mission after a fresh install of TDM. 2. Install another fan mission or uninstall the one that was installed in step 1. 3. Black screen. Also, the load screen before the main menu is the default Doom 3 one, only without the texts (i.e. Loading game, Initialising Menu) I have tried using the methods found in the previous posts, but none of them worked. Deleting all TDM related files in my Doom3 file and then re-downloading the whole 1.4GB TDM again solves this problem though. So far it meant that I need to download the whole mod again for every fm i want to play, but I'll now try making a backup of the TDM files to get quick acess to them.
  2. Hi all, I'm so happy that I found this mod again - I totally forgot about it, although as a Thief fan I really anticipated it back when it was first announced. But there's a problem when I launch it. The menu screen is completely black, just the cursor is visible. I hear the menu music and hear when I select menu items, but no visuals at all. Here's the console log (I can access the console just fine): http://pastebin.com/pzJEG30r As you can see, he was unable to load many of the files/textures/images, including "WARNING: Cannot find guis/mainmenu.gui", so I guess that's the problem. Doom 3 itself (and all other games as well) runs without any problems, it has the required patch, and the TDM updater did its work without a problem. I have an early Intel Dual Core CPU and an NVidia GTS 450 card, if that matters. Running on Windows 7 x64 with latest updates. Also, latest NVidia driver. I already looked through the FAQ and changed the multi display mode to "Single Display Performance" (since I use two monitors). But the problem persists. Doom 3, on the other hand, always runs, with or without these tweaks. Furthermore, I ensured that the "darkmod\DoomConfig.cfg" contains these settings from the FAQ: But that didn't help either. I also tried changing the resolution from 1920x1080 to 800x600, but as expected that doesn't change anything as well. Was just a try. Any help is very appreciated.
  3. Hi, Installation of the mod was smooth and painless. But unfortunately I started experiencing some crashes. There are several cases, when it happens: - when I die - when I load a saved game, being currently in the game (I can load savegame only once - right after the start). - when I quit mission - when mission is completed. When it happens, screen goes black, but not completely - like 95 per cent - I can see a bit of very dark colour, where bright torches were (so it doesn't leave 3D display). Then it hangs up for about 5-7 seconds (mouse coursor appears) and it goes to desktop without any message. Strange thing is, that I was able to reload quicksave, quit mission and install another one, I could see death screen as well. So something has changed meanwhile. I naver finished any FM properly though - I got that crash even with the first finished FM. I have Win7 64 bit system and I didn't touch any config settings. I would appreciate any suggestions.   4. I tried it with spaces (C:\Program Files\Doom 3\darkmod), and I had a problem, but I'm not sure if the problem is related to the spaces. The training mission took about 10 min to load - the loading progress bar actually filled up in less than 30 sec, but the message that appeared after that ("mission is preparing to start" or something) was there for 10 min; it would be nice if there was a progress bar for that also, so I know it hasn't locked up. Once the mission started, it seemed to work okay for a minute or 2. I walked around a bit, then suddenly the game locked up. Then a few moments later the picture disappeared but my controls start working again. I could hear my footsteps as I continued to walk around, and I could hit escape and open the menu screen and hear the sound of my mouse rolling over the options, but the screen always remained black so I couldn't actually play. I have 2 questions. 1) Does this sound like a problem caused by spaces in the install path, and if not, do you have any idea what would cause this problem and how I can fix it? 2) Can I simply move the contents of the "Doom 3" folder to a new directory with no spaces, or do I have to uninstall and reinstall doom 3 to get rid of the spaces?
  5. Thanks so much for this I waited years and its better than I thought it would be. After i d/l it i played it and it worked fine but the next day i went to play it and when i load the game chalice of kings the screen turns blue for a second with a bunch of words and numbers and the screen goes black and sometimes restarts the system doom 3 plays fine 1.8 ghz ram 1024 mb 32 bit win xp
  6. Anyone else have this issue? I've had it for quite awhile. Sometimes I get lucky and get a screen, but it usually has black lines through it. And sometimes it doesn't crash. But right now I basically have to be prepared to reboot if I want to try and grab a screeny. 5850, newest drivers, Win7 64 Home...
  7. You will need to make sure that image_useAllFormats and image_usePreCompressedTextures are both 1. There are situations where these will default to 0, in that case you will get a black screen and cursor, as described. I think this will fix it. You will also need to understand that Intel gfx is beyond the scope of what we will try to actively support. Hatemail for this topic can be directed to Intel. It also looks like you are using PulseAudio - in which case, you're going to have trouble at the next turn. Hatemail for this can be direct to Ubuntu devs for picking the worst horse.

  9. I tried all the suggestions and none worked. Deleting the config file, now launches TDM non windowed but still just a black screen. I had several D3 mods, deleted all but TDM, but will try a reinstall. That's about all it likely can be at this point! Thanks for the suggestions and will try to feedback once it is working. PS: launching via D3 tdm mod and TDMlauncher results in the same thing btw. Happy gaming all!!
  10. Just wanted to test it out in Linux. I have Doom 3 and the expansion installed, and I know they're fine I actually just finished the expansion about a week ago. When I follow the instructions in the wiki, the screen goes black as it changes the resolution, I very briefly see the Dark Mod splash screen, and then it disappears. I'm using 64 bit Ubuntu. Since I can play regular Doom 3, I assume all my 32 bit libaries are in good order. I have libmng1 installed, and I installed libdevil1c2. I did see in the error at the end dlopen '/home/doug/.doom3/thiefs_den/gamex86.so' failed: libIL.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory but /home/doug/.doom3/thiefs_den/gamex86.so does exist, and libIL.so.1 does exist as well, in /usr/lib, so I'm not sure what it can't find, if it's libIL.so.1, where does it want it to be?   11. cannot start tdm 1.04 after updating from 1.03 ERROR: Error: file script/tdm_events.script, line 215: Unknown event 'log' updater says all ok. 1.03 was working update: downloaded from torrent, works now. seems like my files was changed update2: no, I'm unable to run this version. the second time I launch it, black screen with a cursor appears and music playing. also id logo instead of tdm. I'm on Windows7 64, nvidia drivers 266.58 it seems it was a problem in DoomConfig.cfg now working after deleting it)
  12. I've noticed black artefact's for fraction of seconds on the left side of the screen, but they don't appear in the bottom corner (more like distributed all over). I thought it was a consequence of the light gem hack you're doing.
  13. After a while I wanted to play the dark mod again, I am happy to see the community is still active. I once again got the `black screen' on startup, and I solved it the same way. The get the feeling of the game again I wanted to play the Training Mission, but I got the message on post title. Exploring the source code a little I got the game seek that executable using g_Global.GetDarkmodPath() / "tdmlauncher.linux", and according to the log 'Darkmod directory is /opt/doom3/darkmod/'; so it seems a little strange as the resulting path seems correct. I read about in the wiki, but my dmargs.txt contains only comments (or so I think, it contains only lines starting with #). What can I try? Thanks etb
  14. I had this at one time with the trainer and also I think for a time during development of my current FM - might have been while I was trying to optimize some big visportals in the city area. I saw black for a few seconds then very briefly the blue screen then reboot. My guess is that it is a normal CTD but also screws up Windows or RAM management somewhere. We used to see blue screens much more commonly years ago but that doesn't mean that Windows is now perfect and traps everything. BTW are you using either of the Alchemist patches and what date did you download (because the combination lock patch was included in an FM update but the spiky ball one remains a separate patch.) The spiky ball bug was the one that CTDed but only on some systems. The combo lock didn't cause a crash just failed to work properly in some situations.
  15. Guys, I'm having crashes in TDM sometimes. Today was the first time I managed to see a TDM error message (as opposed to just a black screen). It read as follows: IdMovable 'IdBarrel_ATDM:Movable_Junk_WBottle01_Broken_1027': Cannot Load Collision Model Models/Darkmod/Junk/WBottle01/Broken.LWO The crash happened in the third NHAT mission, while trying to open a drawer in a room in the upper floor. Just before doing that, I had snatched a golden bottle from a table on the opposite side of the room. Does anyone have any idea what causes these crashes, or where the error message is supposed to point me to? P.S.: I'm experiencing this kind of crashes in other FMs, so it's definitely not limited to NHAT 3.
  16. I ran into two initial problems when trying out TDM. I have a fix for one that I'll share in case anyone else encounters the same issue. TDM Update CrashesRunning tdm_update.exe results in a crash: 'tdm_update.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.' This happens shortly after the copyright line of text is displayed. A zero length tdm_mirrors.txt file is created. If I manually obtain a correct tdm_mirrors.txt file and run with tdm_update.exe --keep-mirrors, the same crash happens just after 'Fetching checksums from server...'. To workaround this problem, I used the torrent to get the game. Following the wiki suggestion of cleaning out %temp% did not solve this problem. Second start of game = Black screen with sound, invisible menus, and generic grey mouse cursorThe new 'DoomConfig.cfg' created after the first run of the game had a setting that would cause this error. Through trial and error I determined the setting I needed to update: Change seta image_usePrecompressedTextures "0" to: seta image_usePrecompressedTextures "1"
  17. I have just downloaded TDM using the installer/downloader but I'm having a problem that doesn't appear to be listed anywhere. I've searched these forums, I've gone through the installation guide and the FAQ but everything that seems to be for the problem I have hasn't helped. Basically, when I load the mod I get the music playing but the screen is totally black. I can see the mouse pointer and I can hear the sounds as I pass it over the buttons but I can't see a damn thing. When I bring up the console I can see that there were 166 warnings during loading saying 'could not load image', so my guess is that the game can't find the images and so it's just using blank ones instead. I have followed the installation instructions, I am running the 1.3.1 patch, I've added commands into the DoomConfig.cfg file as mentioned in the FAQ, I've also switched the Thread Optimisation off under the NVidia control panel. But it's not working... Any help would be greatly appreciated.   18. This can be cause by a number of things - the first is please try starting doom3 and putting in the CD key there. If it accepts the key, restart d3 and make sure it doesnt ask again. If this happens chances are that TDM will be fine. If that doesnt work, I remember someone had the same situation regarding gamex86.dll as happens with some people getting a black screen... but try making sure doom3 is happy first. Starting the map directly will skip a lot of 'nice' things, so it isnt really recommended.
  19. I have identified my brand of the black screen problem. Basically, after having gone through the briefings of an appearingly randomly selected number of fms, it gives me a dialogue box saying that the map files cant be found. Which would indicate a problem with the download. I later found out that the problem was caused by me having put spaces between fm names with multiple words when downloading them (i.e. sons of baltona.pk4). Writing sons_of_baltona.pk4 or sonsofbaltona.pk4 completely got rid of the problem.

I just wanted you to tell me what you thought was the best way to solve the Black Screen problem. It seems like a simple request. If you didn't have a suggestion then I wanted you to tell me what post from this thread seemed like the best solution again, seems like a simple request. It's true I said I have tried the suggestions in this thread but I also said that I would be more than happy to repeat a suggestion that looked promising to an expert such as yourself in the event that I didn't correctly follow the instructions the first time. I just wanted some Dark Team Mod advice.
  21. It doesn't appear that I'm going to get an answer from the Dark Mod team which is odd since this problem seems too large to ignore. How about this, does anyone know how to fix the black screen problem? I've tried the above suggestions but they didn't work for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  22. Since upgrading my machine (and switching to a Geforce 8800 GTX) I've noticed a couple times now in TDM where I get a strange flicking effect. At first it just looks like the screen is randomly flickering to black for half a second, occuring every 5-10 seconds. Tonight (the second time I've noticed it) it started happening again, and the frequency started getting faster and the effect more severe--after a few minutes surfaces almost looked like they were z-fighting every two seconds or so. It seemed to be somehow related to the flickering of nearby lights...there were a couple places where the flickering stopped, and it was always where there were no lights. As soon as there were flickering lights visible it started up again. Anyone heard of this before?
  23. Can you post the changes that occur between the DoomConfig.cfg where your screen is pitch black, and the default one? (Since it looks like you're on Linux, a unified diff (use diff -u) would be grand. )
  24. I'm having the same problem on Windows 7 and a GTX280 on 195.62. It starts fine but defaults on 1920x1200, when I set my resolution and restart I just see a black screen.

Hi and thank you for the replies and suggestions so far. @Fidcal I haven't played St Lucia on this machine. @Serpentine I had the 9.10 driver and I have now updated to the 9.11 driver, no change. @New Horizon I realise your second last reply was meant for Noisycricket but with the new driver I have again gone through and tried both the default (My default) config as well as the change you mention and after that didn't work I tried the other changes as well. @Noisycricket I haven't fiddled with DOOM 3 settings at all and the game had detected as Ultra, I changed that to High instead, changed seta image_useCompression back to 1 since it got set to 0 when I changed my DOOM 3 settings. I still have a black screen. image_useallformats makes no difference whether its set to 1 or 0. Uncertain if this is relevant, but my resolution settings don't seem to have any effect on the game. Low res even though I've got the config set to 1920x1200. Regards,
