Debriefings

Is there a way to do a text debriefing?

+1!

Me and someone else too thought about this just the other day. It would be really cool to a mission debriefing, akin of mainmenu_briefing.gui. Mappers could do what they want.

Siyah, most of our missions are single FMs. No continuity. Debriefings would be most valuable.

Indeed, there is a use that would justify this completely, you could have a debriefing story that concludes the plot of your mission with what could be texts or pictures, enhancing the dramatic impact of whatever that story or feel might be. It was done successfully in Above the City and A Score to Settle, but a simple "briefing" would be a lot less expensive to create than an animated movie, specially for not so advanced mappers.

Somewhere Above the City used a cutscene to end the mission, controlled by scripting.

But I've been thinking about a short debriefing text to end the mission I'm working on. I already have a cutscene in the works to end it, like in SATC, but I'd like to follow it with a "If I only knew then what I know now" sort of debriefing text.

It's been a while now since I looked at it, but I think the gui just calls a material shader, and you enter the duration separately. If that's the case, might it work if your material shader pointed to a regular image (that contained text)? You might not be able to fade in multiple paragraphs like a briefing, but that might work for a single page of debriefing text.

Worst case scenario would be taking that image and converting it to .roq format, but I'm not sure there's anything in the .gui that cares whether it is actually a video or not (though I could be wrong).

In the Campaign material, I see that we can do a debriefing video between the Mission Complete and Mission Stats screen.

Is there a way to do a text debriefing?

No, unless you override the mainmenu_debriefing_video.gui file, which is not recommended since it's a vanilla TDM file and subject to change.

One might need to add that option to mainmenu_utils.gui and add the corresponding switches in the mainmenu_custom_defs.gui file.

Finally got round to publishing a tutorial on baking normal maps in Blender, since most of the ones we have are inaccessible or years out of date.

The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.
