How to add an avatar

I must be doing something wrong as I tried to upload this as an avatar and it just won't work

An avatar is one of the most important things here in the forums, so I'm glad you came with this concert to me finally after 1462 posts.

There should be an error message displaying what's causing the fault. A jpg should be fine - maybe it's the file size?

Actually, I ran into the same problem when I was trying to upload my avatar. It has nothing to do with file type or size (I tried varying both, nothing worked) - I think uploading directly is just broken. I believe the solution I found was to host my avatar on an image hosting site (like Imgur), then import the photo from a URL.

That sounds possible. I think that'd be a permissions issue. Normal members don't have permission set up for uploading things in general, and then that applies to avatars. But solution is the same. Host it elsewhere and use the url.

I was about to say, downsize your image. I had the same problem, with no error message, when I was trying to use an image that was too big. But the one you posted is only 80x80.

Alright, here's what you do.

 

Draw a pentagram in a circle in chalk on the floor, with the computer in the center. Light five candles and put them at the points. Kill a chicken and sprinkle its blood on the computer chanting mekaleka hi meka hiny ho, make sure your browser accepts cookies for this site, and then try it.

 

If that doesn't do it, I don't know what will.

Edit: Seems that there are some issues with IPBoard photoEditor javascript and some permission issues that I need to investigate further.

This should work now. But I'm not sure if the way I fixed it is correct. I'll have to do some further research so expect it to break again sometime in the nearish future while I experiment.

 

Edit: also, you may have to force a browser refresh for the forums to get the latest versions of the javascript files.
