Can you recommend playing Genesis? The ratings are mixed.

I can recommend getting it for free with a single click, which is what I did.

The only game I have played in a while is Ancient Domains of Mystery 1.1.1, which you can play for free directly on Internet Archive.

That's how you add new items to your pile of shame actually :] I've got the problem that I've not played about 90% of my games. And when I find time to play I wanna make sure that's worth it in the future.

Not complaining about your post of letting us know of the free game though. I was just curios if you would've recommended it.

Sometimes, you don't want to do the research right away though whether the game is any good or not, so I just get the game and check it out later.

I recommend using GOG Galaxy, as you can integrate pretty much all launchers there and see all your games. You can tag your games and create gamelists this way. So, these unchecked free games go into my "check reviews"-list. If the game is any good, it goes into my "Playlist"-list. Really nice games I plan to play in the very near future go into my "Priority Playlist"-list.

So, to me, owning a game does not necessarily mean it enters my backlog. 🙂

I played half of the tutorial, and I thought it was boring, confusing, and irritating. Not my cup of tea at all, but it was free so I didn't lose anything.

Thanks, I can also recommend gog galaxy. The idea of the custom tags is really nice, I'll have to try this out too!

Grab Jazz Jackrabbit 2 before Nov 3, 9 AM EDT.

Pretty nostalgic because I remember watching the trailer for this game... over 20 years ago, included on a disc for Railroad Tycoon II. It's also an early game from the company now known as Epic Games... shouldn't they be the ones giving it away for free?

This is probably the start of better-than-usual giveaways from Epic Games.

To be honest, it's amazing what they gave out over the years... my Epic Games library is full of stuff I paid good money for on Steam. It only has been recently that their giveaways have become a bit lame.

As you frequently post the GOG freebies here: They're quite a laugh compared to what Epic Games gave away for free. But, that's not really a surprise, as Epic Games pays a lot of money for their giveaways, to get their store and service running. Didn't really work out so far though.

For my freebie of the day: Portal with RTX was released today. I can only recommend to download it if you have a beast of a high end PC though. Even in Full HD with reduced settings, it runs like crap here... Well, apart from some more graphics eye candy, it's the same game as the normal Portal anyway. ;)

On my 3060 Ti at 1440p, I had to switch to DLSS performance mode and reduce the light bounces a little, to make it half acceptable. Control and Cyberpunk had a lot better raytracing performance.

IDK about GOG, but my understanding is that Epic Games Store is not profitable, and isn't expected to be before 2027.

https://www.pcgamer.com/epic-has-sunk-dollar500m-into-the-epic-games-store-doesnt-expect-to-make-a-profit-until-2027/

But they have made so much money from Fortnite that they can afford to take the hits in order to establish themselves as at least the industry's #2 behind Steam.

I find GOG to be the most "trustworthy" platform with some exceptions, and Steam to be the most interesting/useful with their huge support for Linux gaming via Proton/WINE contributions and the Steam Deck.

I posted about it before, but I think the default tdm logo video looks outdated. For a (i.m.o.) better looking version, you can download the pk4 attached to this post and plonk it in your tdm root folder. Every mission that starts with the tdm logo then starts with the better looking one. Try for example mission COS1 Pearls and Swine.

I finished DOOM - The Dark Ages the other day. It is a decent shooter, but not as great as its predecessors, especially because of the soundtrack.
