Apparently this original version of the game receives some updates for the 25th anniversary:

Styx: Shards of Darkness 100% off on GOG, less than 8 hours left

It's supposedly a stealth game but the two trailers are cinematic.

The second Styx game is a very nice Stealth game, very similar to Thief actually (except that it's third person) and much better than the first title. I hope anyone got this game. If not, it is still on 85% sale right now.

shows what the old quake engine was capable of 😄 even source had roots in the quake1 engine though the renderer got updated quite a lot with shaders etc. xash3d fwgs is an opensource interpretation of the old goldsource engine and plays pretty much all the older titles not only on PC but on phones and tablets as well, it can also be built natively on linux since it relies on SDL2. The original author uncle mike long since dropped the project but the fwgs guys have made some strides in enabling the missing renderers so now it runs in both opengl and software (no d3d yet). There also a modkit enabling a more modern renderer with shader effects (XashXt) but for most parts it cannot be used out of the box with the older games (only intended for those who want to create new mods).

the engine itself is a strange mix of a C based renderer and C++ based client code, the funky thing is you can actually override the engines old renderer from the clientside with something quite a bit more modern.

The old renderer got updated with a VBO engine part but it turned out to be buggy as hell and was later disabled (broken flashlight / geometry).

Epic giveaway starts in just over an hour. I think it's one game every 24 hours:

Nope, it's Destiny 2: Legacy Collection for a week.

I wonder if Epic Store soon gives Deathloop away. It's already been given away on Amazon Prime Gaming, obviously in cooperation with Epic Store, where it can be activated, so, I wonder if one of the next freebies will be Deathloop directly on Epic Store.

Would be nice, as I at least want to take a look at it, but, don't want to spend any money on it (I really dislike what Arkane did in the recent past...).

They will supposedly do the one-game-a-day spree for 15 days starting on December 20, ending noon on January 4, with a Jan 4-11th game after that. Totaling 17 free games during their "Holiday Sale", counting Destiny 2 here.

Other than Redfall, Arkane really didn't do anything wrong in recent years in my oppinon, and that game was publisher ordered, so it doesn't count! ;) DEATHLOOP is awesome, if you embrace the multiplayer part of it.

I've only seen videos of it yet, and read reviews, but, the opinions about it seem pretty split... especially true stealth doesn't seem to be possible anymore since one of the updates.

It also looks pretty "modern" in terms of characters and story. I don't want to get more into that, this shouldn't turn into a political thread.

That's why I wouldn't spend money on it, but, would surely take a look for free.

I don't think this is anywhere near the enjoyment of Dishonored for me.

DEATHLOOP has never been a stealth game. It has some stealth mechanics, but it is clearly intended to be an asynchronous multiplayer shooter with mild rogue-elements, wrapped in a nice mystery-adventure. Honestly, the gameplay idea is genius, but you have to like multiplayer in order to be able to really enjoy this game. Playing it offline is really not as exciting.

Hmm... my motivation to try it is getting lower and lower. :)

Arkana's games were a no-brainer for me once. That's definitely a thing of the past.

Anyway, for free I would give it a go, of course.

Ashes series - 2063, Dead Man Walking, and Afterglow

Get the stand alone version in the files section.

Tips: Search for scrap in trash. Take the lantern battery and radio at the hubs.

Other files:

Ashes Weapon Pack and Ashes Monster Pack - Use with other maps. Entering 'summon blursphere' in the console gives weapon upgrade kits.

Sterile versions - No story - Maps only - Use with gameplay mods. The first episode Sterile version is at the forum post linked above.

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!
