It would be nice to have location data of these issues.

I have now added coordinates to the bugtracker issues that did not already have them.

I cannot speak for the mission creators, but if was one i would say: "thanks for the suggestions. please adjust them yourself, if you want to do it. The needed source and info are publisched online.  it takes time to repair the problems. I (dont) have time for it. Maybe you get some experience by repairing this yourself, to create some new content yourself."

Normally one would post in the topic of the fm and then hope that someone (the author) comes along to fix it

Yes, while Saint Lucia and A New Job are a little different, seeing that they are parts of the official introductory campaign, we usually use the bugtracker only for engine and core asset related issues. Please use the respective FM threads in the future.

Right now I lack the skill, but maybe in the future. There is no rush, merely suggestions. The missions are perfectly fine already, and these are just details. I wasn't aware if updating other creators' missions, even OMs, was frowned upon or appreciated.

I'll try and remember that. Thanks for your help!

Doing that without permission from the author/s is frowned upon, saying this because if I'm remembering correctly, caused some stir in this community in the past, including a ban.

And telling the truth, if I was a mission maker (that I'm not), I personally wouldn't want anyone to mess with my mission without my permission.

OK. Thanks! In my case the issue is moot because I don't know how to do it. Hence my plea for help... 🙂

If an FM author built their mission using assets that are licensed CC-BY-NC-SA (which I believe all do), if I understand correctly then that means they must license that mission under CC-BY-NC-SA too. Which in turn means anyone can build further on their work as long as they follow the conditions stipulated in the license. It seems odd to release a work under a certain license and then say "but I don't want you to do what the license explicitly grants you to do".

"Applying a Creative Commons license to your material is a serious decision. When you apply a CC license, you give permission to anyone to use your material for the full duration of applicable copyright and similar rights." (https://creativecommons.org/faq/)

If an author once benefited from the license when they created their mission, why would they not want others to benefit similarly from the same licenses? The license requires their name be mentioned in every remix that follows.

At the same time I can understand that some creators more than anything want to create. The desire and drive to create may be so great that they accept conditions during the time of creation, to give them artistic freedom and to use the best available assets; contitions that they regret later when their work is finished and published, and they want to keep control over it.

For the OMs I think the project as a whole would benefit from a relaxed and welcoming stance towards changes.

The license.text (you can find it in the root of tdm install) says this:

Quote

Unless explicitly stated otherwise, all maps, textures, models, def files, audio
assets, and all other non-software components that are distributed with The Dark Mod
are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 3.0
Unported license, as specified at
http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/3.0/legalcode
and described at http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/3.0/

Any missions downloaded through the ingame downloader, the TDM website or external
sources are the property of their respective authors, and different licensing may apply.
Without explicit permission from the mission authors, you may not redistribute, modify
or reuse (parts of) these missions or the assets contained within them.

Anyway, I don't really understand what you want. I think enough has been said no? You posted about the stuff that you think needs fixing. Maybe someone picks it up and it gets fixed.

I suppose I want the same as most who contribute to the project in one way or the other: to volunteer my time, effort, and knowledge to help TDM be as good as it can be.

Fiver, there are many ways you can contribute. Several ways are described on the forum and wiki.

You pointed us to some locations in missions. Please read the forum posts & the wiki, watch some youtube editor tutorials, download and  use the mission files & darkradiant to try fix/change  the things you mentioned.

For starters,

Well, this is just sad...I was not able to play any Thief or TDM whatsoever, why? Too busy the past 2 months, this month I'm not as busy BUT it's also very heaty in my place.
I can't play Thief when it's not at least 15c or lower, the game demands to be played when it's cold for...Well, may sound stupid but I'll just say it, for that "immersion".
It's kinda like playing Quake during Summer, which unless it's the Summer Jam mod, I don't think it's as fun.

The preliminary working titles for the missions in my now-in-development Partners in Crime series:
      - Partners in Crime 1: A Mere Trinket
      - Partners in Crime 2: Beacon Burglary
      - Partners in Crime 3: In the Bleak Midwinter
      - Partners in Crime 4 (5 ?): Fishy Dealings
      - Partners in Crime 5 (4 ?): A Thief in the Night

No title stealing, please.  In return, I promise to finish these. I do stress the preliminary part. Beyond the broad strokes storyline, plot, objectives, briefings and the (currently built) layouts of these FMs, I haven't fully decided about every single detail yet, including the exact order of the missions (4 and 5 might switch places, with the story adjusted accordingly). I want the overall plot to be plotted out a bit in advance and not suffer too much from inserting prequels later. I also prefer to let my FM building fill out part of the details naturally.

Currently working on the second FM, and once I do enough work on the current prototype, I'll work on the first one, until I get that one released. Then complete the second one, get that one ready for release (hopefully) a few months later, and so on. I want most of the early missions to be fairly small and confined, and get a bit bigger as I grow more confident in my FM making skills.

Though there is an overarching storyline to this series, the missions themselves are mostly episodic in nature. They factor into the character development of the two main characters I'll have in the series, but it's the kind of continuity where the mission's own plot and story wouldn't depend on it.
