New forum bugs

This is an issue with this forum, not TDM itself. I didn't find another area to report this, so I hope it's still the correct place.

I was just surprised to see that for some odd reason, specific topics on the forum cannot be accessed due to a server error. In essence, all topics work fine... except one, which tells me "The page isn't redirecting properly" when I go to it. How can this be, and can an admin look into the issue please? Here's a link to the topic in cause:

[EDIT] Renamed this into a general thread for forum bugs introduced by the software upgrade, as suggested below.

Thanks for the report. The forums moved server and had a software upgrade this weekend. taaaki is working through all the bug reports. We should start a thread... or this could be it if you edit your post, go to full editor mode and change the title to something like "New forum bugs" :)

Also another thing I noticed which isn't so much a forum bug but moreso a problem caused by the server switch ( I assume) but all my forum notifications I recieve via email for some reason end up in my spam folder in gmail. I have added the email address to my contacts list so it shouldn't happen anymore but if someone notices that the emails suddenly dont appear in the inbox then they should check the spam folder.

Before the switch I had 0 problems with receiving emails from the forum.

grayman had exactly the same problem. Is your junk filtering client-side or server-side? And did you have a "safe sender" rule for the old forum which stopped the notifs going into junk? It's probably not something that's fixable remotely either way, but maybe something to let people know about.

New bug, something that was working earlier on the new forum: I get the error message "No file was selected for upload" when trying to load an image to a post. This happens after the image has (apparently) been uploaded but before I can attach it to the post.

It doesn't appear to like the # character. Looking at the web server config files now to see if I can resolve this.

# in URLs are not sent to the server, they denote an "anchor", and the anchor part is kept client-side and used to access the first href with that name. So the server only sees the part up to the "#" character, which is probably an incomplete URL for it. Hence the loop or error.

I have bookmarked that thread in my own mission list.

And it uses some odd encoding which I have never seen anywhere else:

forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/12894-fan-mission-%2348-a-score-to-settle-by-springheel-20110701/

http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/12894-fan-mission-%2348-a-score-to-settle-by-springheel-20110701/

The # is replaced with %23. But the link still works!

However you can not even move on to another page in that thread.

Edit: Oh, that is actually standard URL encoding.

One bug that I'm seeing only when looking at the forums on my phone is that when you click on "New Content" each thread says that the last user whose posted is "Array" (as opposed to "Melan", "Bikerdude", etc).

But you should walk having internal dignity. Be a wonderful person who can dance pleasantly to the rhythm of the universe.

Me too, only on the phone version. It was doing the same thing on the main website when it first came back on line, but taaaki fixed the main site already.

Fan Mission #48: A Score to Settle, by Springheel (2011/07/01)

Can't click that link and go anywhere maybe because of the # sign? Anyone have issue loading that page?

I'm getting: "The page isn't redirecting properly."

Which is odd considering I found the thread in the New Content section after someone had posted in it. If it loaded for them, why wouldn't it load for anyone else.

Yeah, I'm getting the same problem.

Was able to use gnartsch's link to go in and edit the title, so it should work for everyone now. Not sure why it suddenly became a problem.

Attachments should work again. Also, I think I've resolved the 3 issues with the mobile version of the site (Full Version button didn't work, usernames on New Content view showing as "Array", and quotes not displaying correctly), but could someone please confirm for me.

Thanks taaaki. I confirm all the mobile browser issues are now resolved for me (Android / Chrome).

  • 2 years later...

Looks like the link in the top menu of the Forum to the Bugtracker is outdated.

It points to http://bugs.angua.at/ and produces the following:

The Dark Mod Bugtracker

The Dark Mod's Bugtracker is currently offline for maintenance. Please check back later to see if it is online again or contact greebo for details.

The outage should not last more than a couple of hours or so, expect it to be online again on 2011-01-30. To speed up things, you might try cleaning your DNS resolver cache by executing

ipconfig /flushdns

at your DOS command line. --greebo

The actual bugtracker is here:

Hey @nbohr1morehow come the zombies in The Dark Mod don't have a "resurrection" mechanic to it, similar to how Thief has it?
They're quite a weak creature as of right now, it's merely a walking corpse that slashes you, making attacking them to kill them an actual strategy.
Would be better if they had some cool mechanism to it that truly makes them a danger, such as the resurrection idea itself.

Query: when was the last time a zombie in a video game was unnerving or scary to you? I'm chipping away at my anniversary submission and I've been trying to gather opinions on the subject. I'm perfectly capable of lighting them well, changing their sfx, and creating effective ambience, but I'm worried that zombies at their core are just too overdone to be an effective payoff to the tension I'm creating.

Has anyone had any luck with textures from Polyhaven? Their OpenEXR normal maps seem too washed out and give incorrect shading in the engine.

I tried to upscale the TDM logo video. First try:

briefing_video.mp4 You can test it ingame by making a copy of the core tdm_gui.mtr and place it in your-tdm-root/materials/ , then edit line 249 of that file into the location where you placed the new briefing.mp4 file.
What I did was I extracted all the image files, then used Upscayl to upscale the images using General photo (Real-Esrgan) upscale setting and then turn it back into a video.
I might have to crop it a bit, the logo looks smaller on screen (or maybe it's actually better this way?). My video editor turned it into a 16:9 video, which I think overal looks better than 1:1 video of original.
