  1. I had the issue on an X1900 in Theifs Den, Saint Luci and TDM 1.0 are perfect however. Which is the first version of the ATI drivers you installed? You can try uninstall the driver, restarting into safe mode, removing the driver with drivercleaner or such then try installing the 9.10's or whatever the latest is - I do remember someone having this on 9.9... I think! If only they would hurry up and release Rage so that they can get to the claimed source release, such a weak excuse :/
  2. The ampage on the 12V rail/s is what matters most, its not the number of rails - in fact most powersupplies that offer multiple rails are quite bad, ideally you would always want a single rail with insane ampage, eliminating virtual rails etc. Just some food for thought... or something. As for branding, ATi encourage people to use the reference design, though some will change the reference cooler, the boards 95% of the time are exactly the same as other brands (they do change bios stuff however, dropping voltage sometimes if they think its excessive, changing fanspeeds for different coolers, but nothing hectic), if you want a quieter card I would suggest looking for one with a large radial cooler rather than the long blower fan which Sapphire etc come with as they use reference boards + coolers on their non-speciality cards.
  3. Nah, was talking about Windows Server, however, the card is supported under ALSA and OSS (OSS support is a bit iffy, but for many it works perfectly). Its quite strange that they 'opened' the driver, but the driver is all confidential and propriatary, uses a lot of magic numbers etc, if only people would rather release documentation and datasheets.
  4. I'd just hit a newer gfx card, ATI wins hands down on bang for buck, you should be able to get quite a decent card with that. As for OS, might as well head to W7 x64. I didnt really read about the soundcard issues, im running Server 08 with the same card, it had a few issues but I grabbed the PAX drivers, didnt expect them to actually help, but they installed and the card is 100% perfect now, no idea why, but there were millions of issues on the official driver. If your ram is decent, you can get some hefty overclocks out of that CPU without much heat/effort, well worth an afternoon tinkering about.
  5. Opera's had it for years, saved my ass many a time - I have a habbit of closing tabs by mistake when on a posting spree
  6. Yeah, update your gfx drivers. http://game.amd.com/ Sounds like some kind of issue with alpha channel textures... bit strange
  7. ok - quick and easy. Open the folder where you have downloaded the FM's are they called something like : crown_of_penitence OR crown_of_penitence.zip if they are the first case : Go to "Tools"(in the menu bar) then to "Folder Options". Now click the "View" tab at top. Untick "Hide extentions for known file types" The file should now look like : crown_of_penitence.zip right click the file, click "rename", erase the "zip" part at the end and replace it with "pk4" the file should now be crown_of_penitence.pk4 place it in the FM folder and try install. (As a side note : perhaps the installer script could look for zips too? (I dont know how d3 deals with files as filesystems etc), a bad convention, but might be easier)
  8. Well, at least your capslock seems to be working
  9. A friend has been having the same issue, however he had a flawless run-though with the first few maps. Only started happening in Patently Dangerous, will have a look if this fixes it up.
  10. Are you running an ATI/AMD video card? if you are - update your drivers, its a known issue with Cat 9.7 and lower with TDM, no idea what was changed but it seems to work in 9.8-9.10
  11. Good stuff, really enjoyed it! The focus was on story and it did that excellently Did run into something else, managed to get a guard to open the Fressard front door on street level, which isnt meant to be openable, he was greeted to a solid brick wall which he spun around a few times then closed the door and walked off, also the guard path bumps into the corner of Sorens house between Bensons, but thats really minor
  12. Do you have any AA or AF enabled? if so, try disabling etc and make sure they are not forced in the nvidia control panel.
  13. I've been noticing that Doom gets quite angry with some apps running in the background for me. It goes into a race condition loading maps if I have WinSCP in the background... I dont understand why. Anyway, its a thought to try run it after a fresh restart and killing some background stuff that you dont need, I have a feeling things like xfire might cause it to get angry, also have you disabled the steam ingame overlay? Just an idea - I have no idea if it will help
  14. Ummm, they are still supported... I have had no issue installing a 1900XT in 7 with 9.8's (you can install newer, tho it requires editing the inf or using the vista driver) The reason companies do this is that if they officially support old products, they have to actually support them, that means that they have to test a whole extra family of cards etc, nvidia actually have a more aggressive policy towards removing old card support, and hacknig the inf for them is a bit more effort. If I were in your shoes I would be looking for a better way to get fglrx working (tho current versions dont have explicit support for your card, older should be ok), Ubuntu is pretty terrible about letting you hack around and update/do whatever you want however. Another thing to look at is if your drm/dri/mesa libs are up to date with radeonhd and xorg. I know a few friends said that q4 and quakewars were playable(30fps+) on radeonhd, but that was with 3xxx series cards which had full documentation provided. This is an issue with more binary oriented distros and OS's.
  15. I'd go as far as to say it is more of a 'boop' sound
  16. I'm just going to use this to continue talking about audio. I have found a few objects that dont seem to have a sound for when they are dropped/stood on/interacted with, the two that I can remember off hand is the quill in the top room of Outpost, when I drop it it produces a low pitched beeping sound. The same happens with standing or hitting around a fired noisemaker arrow, which is where I first noticed it. I thought that you had given them a double purpose and that when someone stood on it/walked into it it would make a low beeping sound to warn me, and so I started using them as little alarms. Other than that, in a number of areas with the roof being of normal height I am almost unable to distinguish if a sound is next to me or a floor above/below me (as if height was ignored [x,y,z->x,z]). Outpost didnt seem to have thism, it might also be linked to the 'footsteps are loud' issue as I seem to make one hell of a noise moving around quickly. Anyway - as for the rest, you guys have done an amazing job
  17. Unrelated, but a site fix... You're missing : pic[7].src = "images/menu_authors_on.png"; pic[8].src = "images/menu_archive_on.png"; and the relevant array resizing above that from http://www.mindplaces.com/darkmod/scripts/darkmod_js.php
  18. Just dont mention anything about Aldaris needing additional pylons. Protoss traitors are not welcome in the Hive
  19. Should have a look over at http://steampunkworkshop.com/ Though not quite as impressive as the laptop, there's a certain something about the way he hacks everything together, looks a bit too modern in some aspects - atleast for my liking but some quite cool projects
  20. Yeah, the problem with Serious Samurize is that is Seriously Shite. <vent>It's complete crapware, worse than running "pretty widget" systems and other random crap that widnows just gets bogged down with - the sort of stuff that leads to windows issues and then people complaining that windows is such a terrible OS, nevermind the same sort of systems completely love resources on all OS's... but yeah - I would advise agaaaaainst using it if you enjoy the general snappyness of windows and or any performance at all. I have done too much support time to like an app that has no plausable good reason for being installed on 99% of peoples PC's :/ </vent>
  21. Trying to make money out of a mod usually ends up with really bad results - the only way it works is if a company picks up the mod and releases it for you (think GMod/TFC etc). Anyway - on the topic of Steam etc, if iD ever did want to do anything; I think either a free distro via official steam methods - or charging enough for iD to cover release costs would be pretty cool (i.e pay for the bw etc.) All it does is give a larger crowd the oppertunity to play with it - but then you have to have a good few maps to release with it La la la Serp
  22. Hey there, Iv been looking for "the right" PIM myself, so far the top of the pile for me in Windows are EssentialPIM and Exstora , both have free versions and are quite capable, I think that EssentialPIM has degraded in the later releases from what people tell me, but its still quite a powerful one. Im not sure of the tray icon in EssentialPIM, but they are small and quite self contained - so I'd test them and see if they fit your needs. I think EssentialPIM may be a bit more verbose than what you are looking for tho, but it does have some pretty cool things too. And Exstora is perfect for my needs, but the custom UI Controls make it look a bit naffy on my very classic windows box :/ In the end I always have my trusty FreeBSD box next to me running KDE, and KOrganiser is a damn nice little PIM that keeps my life on track these days - I hope they will bring it to Windows with the later ports of the KDE Apps. Anyway - those are the two best I could find for Windows. Serp
  23. The bitch is dead! Finished writing my last important paper for the year at about 1pm - Stats is not a fun game for the whole family... heres hoping for that magical 51% Gonna just chill, get my IDE and all hapilly working with the project first, then tinker around and start looking at loose ends I can help tie up - not quite a maths and 3d hero in my spare time, but I'll do my best to help out where I have experience or find things that look interesting to me Anyway - just wanted to say that I'm back to being more than a name giving random replies to your posts
