The preliminary working titles for the missions in my now-in-development Partners in Crime series:
- Partners in Crime 1: A Mere Trinket
- Partners in Crime 2: Beacon Burglary
- Partners in Crime 3: In the Bleak Midwinter
- Partners in Crime 4 (5 ?): Fishy Dealings
- Partners in Crime 5 (4 ?): A Thief in the Night
No title stealing, please.
In return, I promise to finish these. I do stress the preliminary part. Beyond the broad strokes storyline, plot, objectives, briefings and the (currently built) layouts of these FMs, I haven't fully decided about every single detail yet, including the exact order of the missions (4 and 5 might switch places, with the story adjusted accordingly). I want the overall plot to be plotted out a bit in advance and not suffer too much from inserting prequels later. I also prefer to let my FM building fill out part of the details naturally.
Currently working on the second FM, and once I do enough work on the current prototype, I'll work on the first one, until I get that one released. Then complete the second one, get that one ready for release (hopefully) a few months later, and so on. I want most of the early missions to be fairly small and confined, and get a bit bigger as I grow more confident in my FM making skills.
Though there is an overarching storyline to this series, the missions themselves are mostly episodic in nature. They factor into the character development of the two main characters I'll have in the series, but it's the kind of continuity where the mission's own plot and story wouldn't depend on it.-
Ah, so no campaign then?
-
They will be single missions, but the series will be a campaign in spirit. Hence the numbers in the titles.
I just don't want to apply too much hard continuity, in the sense of, "And this happened exactly one week after the events of the previous mission... which I made years ago.". Precisely because it makes any potential delays with the creation of a new mission all the more annoying in terms of story continuity. Having some flexibility for the time in between the missions helps with less creative constraints on the individual storyline of each mission and the overarching storyline of the FM series. Same as with keeping more setting-related flexibility for the gameplay and locales of each mission.

I've updated all of the Fan Mission documentation on our TDM wiki. As I've gone to the trouble of documenting every officially known fan mission, we currently have a total of 192 missions (the vast majority of them Single Missions, and a few done in the format of a Campaign). Maybe I should get working on my own again, soon, just to add something to the approaching first two hundred.

I think I still have the login details for the Google Account used to log in to The Dark Mod's official YouTube channel. With all the new videos that have been done regarding 2.12 and 2.13, it really feels like it's time for an update. I don't know if logging into another account is going to work, as I've had some issues with it in recent times, but If I manage to do so, I'll do some updating regarding the newer videos.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Sorry, my bad. No idea how that happened.

I've updated the articles for your FMs and your author category at the wiki. Your newer nickname (DeTeEff) now comes first, and the one in parentheses is your older nickname (Fieldmedic). Just to avoid confusing people who played your FMs years ago and remember your older nickname.
I've added a wiki article for your latest FM, Who Watches the Watcher?, as part of my current updating efforts. Unless I overlooked something, you have five different FMs so far.
-
I've finally managed to log in to The Dark Mod Wiki. I'm back in the saddle and before the holidays start in full, I'll be adding a few new FM articles and doing other updates.
Written in Stone is already done.

Sorry about that. You are right, I spotted it myself to be slightly harsh, but didn't change it.. Thanks for the feedback on that and for your help on the wiki.

Righto.
I need to update a fair few things regarding the FM articles (including some of the older links) so I'll have plenty of work with this in the weeks ahead.

Nice work Taffer. What articles have you done the most on so far? >

I've been gone for a while, but now I'm back, have a new desktop and I want to get back to making missions and playing missions. And doing other contributions. Waiting for my reset password for the wiki, but I'll take a look at it soon. Hello, all.

I already wanted to revisit the forums this past autumn and winter, but other stuff kept me busy. Now that I've jumped over to 64-bit TDM on a brand new machine, I also want to revisit my old FM projects and complete a smaller FM.

Btw. in case you come across these 2 pages on the wiki, I modified them quite a bit after you left:
- https://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php?title=DarkRadiant_Video_Tutorials
The contents of the Entity database was hidden and therefore no search could be made on it's contents (everything that is hidden does not excist for search and this makes it kind of useless i.m.o.). I restructured it so everything is always visible (with a back to top-index link after each section).

I'm doing some major archiving and updating on our wiki and the Thief wiki. It should be completed soon enough. I would also like to ask a question: The author "Digi", who made the TDM FM "Poets and Peasants", is Digital Nightfall from TTLG.com ? Or is he a completely different author ? Thanks in advance.
-
Digital Nightfall, aka Dan, has been contractually barred from making FMs as long as he's been working for Arkane, so it's very unlikely to be him.

Thank you.
This is precisely why I'm asking, as I know he's been working at Arkane for years. I wanted to be sure, without a shadow of a doubt, that it was someone else, with a similar nickname. I know that DN's abbreviated nickname back in his TTLG days was "Digi", so that was the confusing element that created the whole conundrum.

Hello.

Alll of your missions are now documented on our wiki:

With my workload finally decreasing and having to stay at home far longer than I planned for this spring, I think I'll try to find more time for TDM as well. For the time being, I want to work on those audio projects.
-
Welcome, SC.
Hope you'll have a good time here. Thank you for all the contributions and willingness to help out.
-
To any core team members and senior devs: If you're willing to provide voice acting supervision/QC for the following audio project for the core game, please let me know. We need a supervisor from among the core team, preferably one who's worked with audio and contributing voice actors before, to get this project properly completed. Any sustained help with providing quality control minded feedback to the VA (not just technical things, but performance feedback) is deeply appreciated. It's been a while since the core game received any new VA, and this is one particular old gap that could be filled with a completed side-project like this one.

Shadow Creepr of TTLG.com has provided samples for what might become our female player voice set:
Emphasis on might, as this is still in development.

The Wiki is currently uneditable, at least for me. See the attached image. I came back yesterday from a visit, turned on the computer, went to the wiki, and I was logged off. I thought "OK, my login simply ran out, it is not indefinite". So I logged in, as usual. However, since then, I have been unable to edit any article on the wiki. Any. Article, discussion, category, no edits can be saved and I always receive this database error. Is this a cache clearing issue, or is this yet another hiccup on part of the official servers ?
-
I'd like to ask: Could the Fire elemental article at the wiki be unlocked ? It's very out of date at this point, we've had a working FE in the core game for a while now, and it has appeared in some of the missions. I'd like to update the info and a more crisp screenshot of the elemental that I've already prepared.
Also, could we have the main Universe article and The Empire article briefly unlocked, just so I could add a Category:Universe tag to those ? They are currently entirely unclassified on the wiki and it's a pain always needing to look them up separately (and not very good navigation for new players searching for info on the wiki).
Also, was the Builder Characters article vandalised that it's also off-limits ? Some of the other character articles (for thieves, noblemen, etc.) have been expanded over time with new entries, as the number of missions (and their contributions to the "lore") has grown, but that article seems stuck in the Tears of St. Lucia era of the project. After 10 years, I think the less set-in-stone universe articles should be slightly more open to occassional updating.
Thank you for considering this ! I appreciate any help I can get while trying to update minor but useful stuff on the wiki. Lately, I've expanded some of the more stub-like, previously unfinished articles on gameplay concepts (especially tools and weaponry) in places where they were still lacking. It might seem the wiki has loads of interesting and detailed stuff, and though that's true, some articles really need more regular updating.

To anyone willing to help with a minor but useful voice acting/vocal set-related project: I'd like to upload a 3,5 MB zip to a cloud, but I don't have a dropbox account (and mediafire has become weirdly unreliable for zip downloads). Would anyone be willing to share their storage space for a few weeks ? The zip file contains the player character voice files (grunts, etc.) and I'd like to share the link with VAs I've asked for help with completing the female version of the player character voice files. Just so they could have a point of comparison with the existing voice files, to have a clear idea of what we're aiming for with the female version of that vocal set. Thank you for any help with this, it's a minor thing, but would be incredibly helpful ! Cheers...

Thank you.
Open your darkmod folder, find the pk4 file "tdm_sound_vocals01". Make a copy of it into some other folder elsewhere. Rewrite the format manually, from .pk4 to .zip. If that doesn't work, use the converter I provide in the attachment (just put it in the same folder as the copied .pk4 and click it). Once you have that vocals .pk4 copy converted to .zip format, you can upload the zip to your dropbox. Like I said, it's only some 3,5 MB, in both .pk4 and .zip format. Then send me the dropbox link, so I can share it with the VAs. Thanks a ton !

I bought the mic today, it should arrive tomorrow. I actually forgot about your request, but if I manage to get the mic working with good recording quality, I'll try to record those lines.

Excellent. On a sidenote: Should I choose a particular accent for the captain ? I wanted to give him this pseudo-Scottish accent, but if you don't need one, that's fine.
-
Sorry for the delay, I had a busy week in work and had no strength to focus on writing. I hope I will make few texts unrelated to the most questionable parts this week.
I'm focusing more on coherent narrative and believable transitions between plot points, than on accent. I don't have a calm moment to think about it all in big picture, but I have progress lately.

Okay. Tell me when you'll need the recordings and send me the lines once you're satisfied with them. I'll be testing my mic until then and practicing. Want to be sure it doesn't need too much fine tuning.

Encouraging news: I have finished the rough structure of my first FM. It's a single-building style mission, a small mission, but hopefully it'll prove interesting. Now comes the hard work of sprucing up and furnishing the interiors of the thing, finalising the texture work, populating the FM and all that good stuff concerning patrol routes, loot placement, environmental effects, and the like. It's been good fun so far, though I'm well aware there's still a lot of effort ahead of me. For those interested, this historical structure provided the initial inspiration for the FM's setting: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kõpu_Lighthouse

Why have I been so quiet for the last several months ? I am slowly developing my series of missions again. I will prefer the individual release model, I might release at least one mission before the year is out. A smaller affair, but with some added verticality.

I currently don't have Internet at home and I'm rather busy, but I'll be back soon. Wishing you guys and gals all the best and I hope you're having a nice summer. :-) Wait for me, I won't be long.

I haven't even begun this year's vacation, haha. Too much unfinished work. :-) But now I'm back and as soon as the site completes its necessary maintenance, I'll be visiting a lot more often once again.

Now I'm sad. TheMasterFoundry has cancelled his channel, even though he had some very good TDM content there.
His Training Mission playthrough was probably the best, bar none. A pity we've lost those vids.- Show previous comments 2 more

Ambients database completed. I'll continue to work on the other not yet finished databases and vocal script overviews. We already have a lot more non-tutorial documentation archived than just half a year ago.
