  1. I knew I would like this wad from the start of the first level. Nice scenery and pretty music.
  2. This mission gave me a good laugh... And yes, that's where I got this name from. And... I don't think anyone else in the game says that line.
  3. Not being an expert, I would assume that shadow maps are very very memory hungry, seeing as you are generating an image from the perspective of every light to see what portions of the scene are in shadow and which parts aren't. In fact I think you have multiple images per light if it can cast shadows in all directions, rather than being a simple spot.

Epic and entirely preventable blunder on their part. At least they've fixed the root issue they should have done years ago, for what it's worth I guess.

the signed certificates are built into the addons, just that firefox wasn't recognising thoses signed certificates.

or something at firefox end was,'t recognising things.

Stopped using firefox a while ago due to v60 breaking half my addons, now currently using waterfox.

  6. There's also the question of whether or not it'd impact gameplay. Missions were designed without this feature in mind. And if you can now sneak through/behind the shrubs in shadow, that might make getting past some parts easier than they're supposed to be. Or, I guess you'll still be spotted because of the bright patches of light on you while you pass by.
  7. I think I've found an issue. AMD users, take a look at the running water in the sewers on "Lords & Legacy". It has artifacts. I'm using a Ryzen 2400G...
  8. I'm talking about leaves on trees, bushes, etc. Thoughts?
  9. Since the tax software industry is hiding the fact that they must now let you complete taxes for free when you fall within a certain financial bracket, it seems fair that we spread this story. https://www.theregister.co.uk/2019/04/26/us_tax_turbotax/

  10. Do note that Microsoft sabotaged updates to Windows 7 on newer hardware, e.g. Ryzen, even though Windows 7 still had years of support left at the time they did this. https://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/04/19/chap_fixes_microsofts_windows_7_and_8_update_block_on_new_cpus/ As a former user who paid for the Windows 7 software, that was the last straw, not to mention GWX. I uninstalled Windows and I run straight Linux now. I also do my best to migrate friends and family away from Windows; many of them have done/are doing it themselves to either Mac or Chromebooks, which is quite heartwarming indeed. Fuck this company! Note that this means you will not be able to use your current copy of Windows 7 or 8.1 (yeah, Microsoft sabotaged that one too even though it was supposed to get critical updates until 2023) on a computer you build yourself if it has a modern CPU. At least, not if you want critical updates.
  11. Why the flipping fuck does a bare 8TB drive cost 50% more than this 8TB drive that comes in a USB enclosure? Also, by opening it up, you void the warranty. But the warranty is a whole year anyway!

  13. For anyone who still doesn't believe that you can get surround sound out of standard headphones, play this video with a pair on. This is an old, obscure DOS game from 1995 that has been ported to Java and opengl/openal. That is pure bad-ass. Nevermind the occasional civilian stepping out into the way of the van. lol They did that in the original version of the game too. Don't play in the street, kids!
  14. Been using computers for 25 years, and I've finally run my first java/.jar file. This awesome project: https://m210.duke4.net/index.php

I guess Java is a perfect way to port these old games, because they become cross-platform easily, and performance isn't important; it will run 100+fps on any even slightly decent machine.

  15. I <3 laughing at people like this. Especially when all else fails and someone puts them in their place, they start shrieking like a caged animal. EDIT: Quote of the day: Guy: "You can't shoplift here!" Girl: "Yeah, why not?"
  16. Still spreading the word about TDM on forums to new peops... Funny to see people say "Awesome, I loved playing Thief back in the day!"

Yes it was in a discussion where someone was saying how unhappy they are with the way game companies grant themselves permission to do whatever they like to your PC and personal info today. I pointed out that giving up games completely is an unnecessarily overkill solution when there are free games like TDM to play.

Honestly the mod/Indie genre is still really booming right now. And they aint got no reason to do shady invasive privacy bs.

  17. https://mashable.com/article/shooting-live-stream-christchurch/#SnFNvmjBbaqg If we purge the video from the Internet completely, it will bring the victims back to life. err... If we purge the video from the Internet completely, it will prevent a tragedy like this from happening again. Okay, so that one's not particularly likely either.

Brilliant idea. Bet the executives that came up with the model received a well earned fat bonus for the scheme.

  19. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/03/21/business/boeing-safety-features-charge.html Game over. Please press the reset button on your console and then purchase the "superb safety" DLC to progress past this point.

  21. I wanted an OLED monitor until I saw this video. Guess I'll be stuck with LCD monitors and their shit black levels for the foreseeable future. That is the big advantage of OLED: it can display 100% black pixels right beside bright ones, and anything in between. Playing Thief and TDM on an LCD monitor still feels like I'm doing some kind of injustice to the games. Anyone who ever played Thief in a pitch-black room on a CRT monitor knows exactly what I'm talking about. One of the scams that manufacturers of LCD monitors pull is dimming the backlight to simulate black. But then, that limits the maximum brightness of other pixels on the screen. But this enables them to advertise that the monitor has 1,000,000 to 1 contrast ratio!
  22. https://www.pcworld.com/article/3344476/windows-10-should-never-reboot-your-pc-without-your-express-permission-researchers-conclude.html Windows 10 reminds me a lot of AMD and their Bulldozer chips, which lost in benchmarks when they were tested against the prior generation of AMD chips! If your product is less performant and more complicated with the new iteration than the old one was (Windows 7 in this case), you screwed up big time. We don't see people complaining about forced reboots or excessive down-time on Windows 7! Ceasing to bundle stuff into Windows that nobody asked for like Skype, Xbox, and Candy Crush would be a good place to start. Because, believe it or not, most computer users don't play video games. A vast majority of computers aren't even equipped to run demanding games in the first place. But the hell with that, everyone gets Xbox. And Skype. And Candy Crush. And anything else Microsoft earns a commission to install onto peoples' computers with their oh-so vital updates. https://www.howtogeek.com/342871/hey-microsoft-stop-installing-apps-on-my-pc-without-asking/

  24. Progress is great and definitely appreciated. But you also have to laugh and "appreciate" some of the amusement from bugs that used to be there but no longer are. My personal favorite was when blackjacking someone laying on a bed, they would clip inside the bed and start flopping around violently. Then they would die a second or two later, because the game engine didn't like them being in the level geometry very much. This bug was almost as comical as blackjacking people in t1/2 and seeing them instantly pop up and then fall down because there was no animation for being blackjacked when already laying down.
