x-girlfriend called me FIVE times yesterday, and already once this morning (8AM). She wants to get back together. I have lost track of how many times she has changed her mind in the past. She's older than I am, and yet she still hasn't figured out that this whole thing is a joke.

Life is too short, but if the shit you break up over, and over again is trivial
-
You've gotta be joking. Tonight she wrote me and said "that's fine, but is it okay if I tell people we're together?" This is kinda sad. I don't really care what she does, but it is sad... If you like somebody that much, why the hell do you break up with them so many times, or is it that you have to have a boyfriend to "fit in" or "feel important"?
-
If you have nothing else ...

While beta-testing 2.0 with NHAT2, I knocked out three guards near the tavern and left them in the light. Another guard walks by, right over the bodies and mutters "quiet shift"... lol

Well, I don't seem to have access to the beta-forum currently. I can send it in a PM if you like. I also noticed some other oddities while playing.
-
Stuff was just recently changed regarding AI seeing bodies, so if this is using updated 2.0 it needs to be posted in a thread so it can be addressed.

Its funny. There is HDTV, HD radio, high speed Internet, and yet the phone system still operates at 8 KHz! Why?
-
I'd guess sunk costs in old infrastructure.
-
voice requires barely any quality/bitrate to understand. Just look at Speex/Opus
-
probably because digital can be knocked out by a solar flare, volcanic eruption, heavy rain so they still need a form of communication that isn't effected by these and other natural effects.
-
-
I made myself a private Icecast radio station, which takes sound sent to a "dummy" sound card and streams it to my phone-sized tablet. This way, I can have "wireless" headphones that don't use analog FM technology. FM wireless headphones have terrible SNR, but this setup sounds great!

tasty...

nice, smarty pants
-
I feel like breaking out my wireless headphones now. I think they are analog.

Ever been playing a game, and the NPCs in a "public" level flip out and start attacking eachother, even when they're not supposed to? I saw that today and it was funny as hell. Oddly enough they still did not attack me.

I've also seen it where an NPC steps on A-2 (the spider bot). A-2 does not appreciate this, so it attacks the NPC. Then near-by security forces attack A-2... and all hell breaks loose... lol

I remember one time I was going through the "mole people" tunnels in vanilla Deus Ex, and somehow one of the passive NSF must have gotten hurt by the cat that wanders the area. Suddenly all the NSF in the tunnel were running around chasing and firing at the one cat, and having a lot of trouble killing it because their "marksmanship" was never intended to hit cat-sized targets!
-
There was this funny Deus Ex website, where a fan told you how to cause crazy things to happen. He had UNATCO troopers attacking the vacuum cleaners and stuff. hahaha http://www.it-he.org/deus.htm

TDM + Intel 965 mobile graphics = 3 FPS! I knew I wasn't going to get away with it...

I read a story recently where someone did exactly that. It's not a pretty setup but...
-
lol nice

Or you can use an ExpressCard slot (if your laptop has one): http://www.techradar.com/news/computing-components/graphics-cards/how-to-make-an-external-laptop-graphics-adaptor-915616#null

Don't you love it when hardware breaks the month after your warranty expires? A critical screw (to the backrest of a chair) literally snapped in half. I bet they do this on purpose...

"Those things are timed"
-
"metal screw".
Some time ago I got 6mm screws, they just snap when I tighten them. 30 year old screws are worn and bended, but still work.
-
maybe you should get your screws from MSC.

I set up a local HTTP file server to quickly sling files to any device. I then try to download a .ogg file to my droid tablet from said server. It told me the file can't download because the content isn't supported by the device, even though it can play them just fine. Folks, don't implement anti-features. If the user tells the device to do something, do it! Whether the file is a jpeg, or a zip, or a txt, or ogg, save it!

-
There's an app for that.
-
I did try to cheat and rename the ogg to mp3 on the server end. The tablet still wouldn't d/l it. It must look at the actual file header/MIME-type.
-
This should really be in the tech support section.
-
I seem to have lost my collection of FMs for T1/2/DS. What a shame. I had gigabytes of them.
-
I saw a Windows 98 computer today for 2 bucks! I wonder if it was a decent p2/3, or just a suped up 486... If I had unlimited space, I would have lots of stuff like this around. lol

Sotha, In this case, I'd rather say that one man's junk is another man's server.
-
Heh... The another man could buy rasperry pi and save a lot of money.
-
Except a RaPi doesn't cost 2 bucks.

You know you're getting old when current games have better real-time graphics than the pre-rendered scenes from games you used to play "back in the day".
-
Is it sad that (while watching documentaries and other shows) I frequently hear sound effects from games and I always notice them when this happens? Its jsut that when you play multiplayer games for dozens of hours, some of the sounds become permanently stuck in your mind.

Oh god no. The Wilhelm scream is like torture to my ears. Every time I hear that sound in a movie I immediately hate it a little more.
Â
But yeah. This happens to me all the time, I recognize sound effects very often. It kinda ruined the experience for me when playing the Black Mesa mod.
-
The Wilhelm scream comes in every good movie - like in Lord Of The Rings
-
Aaaand now you know why I'm not a huge fan of movies in general.
-
I was about a foot away from having my foot crushed today by somebody backing up and not looking at the two people walking behind them... But on the bright side, I'm pretty sure they heard me call them an f---ing moron when I passed by their window.

-
they probably never passed their test, and got fake people to do it for them.
-
I have do do that on a dailey basis, but these days I try and educate these morons and if that fails then they get verbal abuse.
-
Here the people mostly forget to turn on the lights in the dawning and sundown too. Some drive too fast some drive too slow. Bad drivers - bad drivers everywhere...
-
A user has a machine that won't boot Windows anymore. I stick in a cheap thumb drive and up comes an accelerated 3d Desktop, with sound, networking, wifi, etc. User is amazed. They can even play their games on Facebook and watch Youtube. Everybody should have these in case of emergencies...

As long as it will POST and *attempt* to boot from something, (CD, USB, hard drive, Floppy) sure! You don't even need a hard drive in the machine.
-
... and I fixed her machine by repairing the MBR. Before I did this, she had another guy look at it and he charged her $50 without solving the problem.
-
There are always specialists like "you need to buy new motherboard".
-
an exercise bike... the *last* thing that should require an external power adapter. Surely riding on the thing can charge an ultra-capacitor, which powers the onboard computer for a wile even if you stop riding?
-
We're still being ignored... Is there some particular reason for this? http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=MTM0NTE

He also ignored the amazing Hexen mod which is still in development and actually released a new teaser very recently:
Â

they only seem to be interested in ioquake3 projects and sources on github

Apparently we're on Freegamer, btw. Some people DO care, after all.
-
It turns out that an old PC with a bad motherboard still makes a pretty good foot rest... until I come across some more parts to stuff in this thing and get it running again.
-
Ever find a player in an online game where the two of you cooperate and (as a result) win every SINGLE time? You stick around and help them build a base, then the two of you gang up on the enemy, box them in, and finish them. This is unusual for public games; usually people just do their personal thing even when it is a team game

Yep. It used to be _very_ popular. Some people forked it and are making a version with a new engine/better graphics. It will be interesting to see what else they change, because I do not believe you can take an old game, just improve graphics, and expect it to return to its former popularity. Game play/levels must be changed to make the experience new again... like TDM did.
-
I also recommended TDM to somebody else while playing Tremulous. They said they were going to check it out. I told them about how many missions there are.
-
I dont know this Tremulous, but it looks very similar to Natural selection (2), which you maybe should try out.
-
So... I just touched a metal leg on my *desk* after I had a lot of static electricity from moving on carpet, and my computer rebooted immediately. WTF?
-
Started cleaning another Vista machine, expired AV, still using IE7, no updates being installed, Acrobat 7, p2p software. This is how malware spreads... The new virus scanner started showing threats before I even began scanning. lol

SeriousToni, you don't know what the problem is? People click online ads... on pornsites... on internet explorer...
-
There must be a way we can make money with this... *___*
-
Dont forget to update flashplayer and java... ^^

managed to trick a couple of guards into falling into the water. They were quite happy to chase me with their swords and throw rocks at me as normal, as they coughed to death! lol

I'm about two seconds from taking my $150 Blu-ray drive outside and introducing it to a bat. The thing produces nothing but coasters on both Windows and Linux. If I do, I will record it.

maybe its a bad batch of disks, I had 30 disks that wouldn't burn all out of the same stack. On close inspection they all had the same twist defect in the plastic surface.
-
I solved it by using another burning program: CDBurnerXP. I recommend it! I was nurvous about looking for free burning apps, but this was recommended by humans on a forum, rather than one of those sleezy download sites.
-
It accomplishes the task without nagging you to order an upgrade, verifies the disk, and writes DVDs/Blu-rays too.
-
I walked to get dinner. I got back and tried to sneak in without allerting the dog. All the windows were shut and yet I heard it moving around before I even reached the door! Do they have ESP? How did it detect me?!

Damn cheaters

My cat can be in someone elses garden but as soon as I open the fridge door she runs into my flat within seconds screaming for milk. Most animals have superior hearing to humans

he smells it

Its funny how (as you upgrade to progressively higher end headphones) you hear things in music that you never heard before.

Enjoy it while your ears last.
-
Hehehe. At least these headphones will. They are the first set I've seen with a detachable cord. Since the cord is always the first thing to break, this is a great thing. It is not proprietary either.
-
I agree. It's for this that now I use an AKG K240 also for my everyday computing :-D
