  1. "May his iron mold the current as we were molded. May his instrument expel all obstruction as we are his instruments." - Collected Sermons of Master Plumber Roto Rooter Few would dare cross the Bridgeport Plumber's Guild. Fewer still could glimpse their secrets and live. CC0 POLYHAVEN PLUMBER PACK BETA Includes: Fully modular pipe kit with optimized shadow mesh, two skin variations and near perfect grid snapping at grid level 4 Moveable plunger prop which is fully compatible with the AI weapon system Worry free CC0 license All credit to the great polyhaven.com for the original mid poly meshes - consider supporting them on patreon. I just decimated and then rebaked the assets as well as converted the maps from pbr and made the additional model and material variations.
  2. Welp it's about that time again to wheel out The Lieutenant for another mission and I could use some help making sure it's at least somewhat playable. Please register your interest here and I'll start a new beta testing thread soon. Due to custom assets the file size is quite large (about 500 MB). Potato users welcome. Some screenshots:
  3. Hello taffers, The campaign "Hidden Hands: Blood & Metal" consisting of five missions is now basically ready for beta testing (the briefing videos are missing and there are still some "real" speakers missing, at the moment there are tentative robot voices in these places, hope to replace them in the next two or three weeks). Unfortunately, the project has become somewhat more extensive than originally planned. It took me about two hours to test each mission. So you should allow at least12 hours for all five missions on the first run. Beta testing shall start at the beginning/middle of next week. The difficulty level is somewhere between "The Anomaly" and "The Lost Citadel". Some things are easier, others are not, but proper exploration and usage of the available resources/objects should always pave the way to success. Sign in here, if you are taff enough! 4. TDM 2.12 is ready for beta test This is how to get beta versions: Upgrade from any version (fast): 1 - Start tdm_installer in darkmod folder. 2 - On the first screen, check "Get custom version" and click "Next". Choose the first name in beta/2.12 list, should look like "beta212-NN". 3 - Click on "Refresh" button to ensure that it is not going to download too much stuff. 4 - Continue installing with "Next". Fresh install (slow): 1 - Create darkmod folder anywhere you like. 2 - Download the TDM Installer from downloads section of the website. Extract tdm_installer executable from the downloaded ZIP and place it into your darkmod folder. 3 - Start tdm_installer (in case of Linux, first edit file permissions to allow executing it). 4 - On the first screen, check "Get custom version" and click "Next". Choose the first name in beta/2.12 list, should look like "beta212-NN". 5 - Continue installing with "Next". In general, upgrade is recommended over fresh install. If you don't want to lose your current TDM installation, then you can copy the whole TDM directory and upgrade the copy. This way you can have both 2.12 beta and 2.11 at the same time. At the end of installation, tdm_installer resets your config by renaming darkmod.cfg to darkmod_{datatime}.cfg. This is a recommended procedure on upgrade, otherwise you are likely to have issues due to old config. If you need your old config for some reason, you can always find it in darkmod folder. 32-bit builds of TDM are deprecated, so they are not present in beta versions. They will be added at the very end of beta phase. Notes 1 - Please try to be specific when reporting a problem. What you were doing, where you were when the problem occurred, can you reproduce it, etc. This wiki article provides many suggestions for good bug reports. 2 - Make sure to check every mission for update just before playing it. We expect to apply small tweaks to missions during this beta phase. 3 - This effort is to find out if we broke anything in TDM with our 2.12 changes, if a new 2.12 feature isn't working correctly. We won't be trying to fix bugs that have been around for a long time. Instead, we will create an issue in bugtracker (if not yet present), to fix it after beta. 4 - If you find something wrong, it would be helpful if you report whether the issue happens in 2.11 too. By the way, you can easily get 2.11 version: just copy your darkmod folder and run tdm_installer on the copy, selecting "release211" on the custom version screen. Thank you for testing !
  5. EDIT - Please note this is Work In Progress and there are more versions available further down this thread ------------------------------------------------------- Hey, A post about a handheld lantern met my eye and sometime later @RedNoodles shared the source files. I don't know who created the lantern in the first place but as per the below post @Dragofer, @Amadeus and @Goldwell were involved. EDIT: @Obsttorte is to be credited BIG TIME, according to Amadeus: I have since been toying with the files and made further improvements: Term "Lantern" replaced with "Lamp" to distinguish it from the former. Comprehensive code clean-up. Removal of unnecessary files. Adjustments here and there. There still is room for more improvement: Better looking inventory icon Better sounds (it currently uses Blackjack sounds) Sounds improved thanks to @Goldwell The lamp clips through walls when up close (no idea how to fix this) The lamp still makes use of def/tdm_player_thief.def and script/tdm_user_addons.script and therefore it isn't compatible with all mission or other mods. I would like this lamp to be truly standalone and compatible with everything but I am not sure how to proceed from this point on. If you ask me, this neat lamp should be properly integrated in the game for mappers to make good use of it. You can find my version attached to this post. Place the *.pk4 in your TDM folder and access the lamp by scrolling through your weapons. Remember: the lamp isn't compatible with other mods. Cheers! z_handheld_lamp_v0.1.pk4
  6. "...to a robber whose soul is in his profession, there is a lure about a very old and feeble man who pays for his few necessities with Spanish gold." Good day, TDM community! I'm Ansome, a long-time forums lurker, and I'm here to recruit beta testers for my first FM: "The Terrible Old Man", based on H.P. Lovecraft's short story of the same name. This is a short (30-45 minute), story-driven FM with plenty of readables and a gloomy atmosphere. Do keep in mind that this is a more linear FM than you may be used to as it was deemed necessary for the purposes of the story's pacing. Regardless, the player does still have a degree of freedom in tackling challenges in the latter half of the FM. If this sounds interesting to you, please head over to the beta testing thread I will be posting shortly. Thank you!
  7. TDM Latch Pack (Beta) By Frost_Salamander and wellingtoncrab with special thanks to Dragofer Tired of picking another lock or hunting for that missing key? Imagine The City is itself an elaborate lock, and you are the key. Embrace progression through careful exploration and navigation of the environment. Embrace the latch pill: Included is a new entity type and scripting for a door mounted toggle lock, or "latch", as well as new CC0 assets and prefabs. https://github.com/thedarkmodcommunity/test-latch/wiki Example Video Asset Pictures All models and textures in this pack are released under CC0 license and may be used freely without need of attribution. This is a beta release - so your feedback is appreciated!
  8. Is there something wrong with the forums lately, or is it my browser? I've been having trouble formatting posts, and just now I couldn't format anything at all.

    I'm using Vivaldi.

Usually I have to: select text, click bold, nothing happens, select again, click bold, then it works.

Same for other stuff, like creating spoilers, bullet points, links. Nothing works the first time.

    1. datiswous

      datiswous

I have no problem. I use Firefox. @Zerg Rush also uses Vivaldi. Have you tried without extensions, or in another browser?

(btw. bold, italic and underline have shortcut keys: Ctrl B, Ctrl I and Ctrl U, you could try that)

  9. Back from a spontaneous 1-week trip to Lanzarote with wife and son. I hope beta testing has been going well...

Lanzarote looks like a nice place. Hope you all had a great time!

  10. This is my first mission, and I think I reached a point where I really could use some feedback on what I'm doing, to see if it makes any sense. It's a small, easy mission, inspired by Thief's Den and The Bakery Job. I also need a bit of help fixing a few issues I'm stuck with.
  11. I'm looking for some beta testers for my new mission, A Night in Altham: This is a large mission - not gigantic like Iris or The Painter's Wife, but bigger than anything I've done before. Content warning: In the next day or so I'll put up a thread in the beta testing forum, with a link to the pk4. Thanks!
  12. It took a while, but I'm very excited to finally make it to this stage! I'm hoping for maybe three volunteers to beta test. Best regards, Groden.
  13. Hello everybody. The Beta Testing subforum said to recruit testers before making a thread there, so I'd like to recruit first and then make a thread there if anybody's willing and interested. I've just finished work on my first Fan Mission, "The Threepenny Revue" and I'd like to get outside opinions on it. I have a zip file with the directory and files that can be dumped into the /fms/ directory and it should play, but it hasn't otherwise been packed up properly yet. The files will be available on my own site, and I'll post a link to it in the Beta Testing thread if there any takers here. I'm still finding my legs with the process of sharing FM files, so I might mess things up but hopefully it works. Thanks in advance.
  14. Hello taffers! I'm looking for three or four people to help test my latest mission, a scary little (early) Halloween mission. Once I have a few volunteers I'll put up a thread in the beta testers' forum. Content warning: I'm also looking for a voice actor to do the thief's briefing info lines. (otherwise I'll have to do it and I'm rubbish!) Thanks everyone!
  15. Almost a year ago I raised concern about reckless overriding of main menu GUI files (which explicitly say they must not be overridden) by mappers. I have changed ton of things now, and I think I'm ready to show the new version for beta testing. If everything goes well, these changes will be released in TDM 2.10. You can obtain the game build for beta testing via tdm_installer. Just check "Get custom version" on the first page and select "test-menugui-N" version in test build. Note that it is close to the latest dev build, and thus includes all the changes done since 2.09. Here is the list of customizations in the new version that I know of: Change background everywhere. Change music everywhere. Disable mission-specific screens. Briefing and Debriefing videos (done the "old" way). Replace briefing screen with whatever mapper wants. Custom mission loading GUIs. All of the above can be set independently for each mission in a campaign. Customize the "Wait until ready" screen. I did not expose the ability to change stuff in Credits screen, since in my understanding that's credits for TheDarkMod itself, thus mission authors should not touch it. The instructions about how to achieve points 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 are given in "mainmenu_custom_defs.gui". Here are things which I have marked as deprecated and want to remove: Videos "controlled by SDK". The "old" approach can now be used both for briefing and debriefing, even in campaign. Custom title. As far as I remember, it has only been used to hack custom background into the menu. Why keeping it? Of course, all the missions which use deprecated features need to be fixed to rely on something else. The missions which override .gui files in unsupported way are most likely broken too and need fixing. All the other missions should work properly now. Here is the policy about fixing FMs: I will fix all FMs, unless mission author wants to do it himself. Fix will only change .gui files, nothing else. Fixed mission should work as intended in 2.10. Fixed mission should play well in 2.09, except that main menu can look differently, and probably briefing/debriefing video can be skipped. Every mission will be briefly beta-tested here. Not the gameplay of course (that would take too much effort), but various menu/gui interactions. Until 2.10 is released, the fixed missions will be stored on separate server and will only be available via special cvars tweaking. Ordinary players will still get non-fixed versions, since they most likely use TDM 2.09. In order to download fixed FMs, you should add the following line to "autoexec.cfg": set tdm_mission_list_urls "http://darkmod.taaaki.za.net/5323_menugui/missionlist.xml" If you want to join testing, I suggest copying TDM installation without FMs, then updating it to appropriate version and changing "autoexec.cfg". Trying to juggle with one installation will be confusing.

  17. Beta Testing: "Seeking Lady Leicester" As most people here know, grayman, longtime lead coder and mission designer (best known for the "William Steele" series), passed away in the spring of 2021 from cancer. According to grayman's will, his son has subsequently donated two unfinished missions to our community. These two projects are completely independent of each other and there is no relation to grayman's well-known "William Steele" series. The mission "The Black Mage" was completed by me last fall and released on Christmas 2021. Bikerdude along with Amadeus and Dragofer have worked for almost 18 months on the second incomplete mission "Seeking Lady Leicester", ready now for beta testing. This is a mansion mission, but it also includes outdoor areas. The playtime is about an hour if you run through it quickly, but if you want to see all the locations and secrets, you'll be busy for several hours. From the feel of it, I would say that this is an advanced mission, so it's surely above "The Black Mage" in terms of difficulty. I haven't played it myself yet, but I've looked at it, and it looks damn good, just like everything else Bikerdude has produced in the last few years. Please sign up here for beta testing, if you can test on 2.11 b4 or higher as this will be a 2.11 release. I then will provide you with details for testing via PM which will take place via Discord. It would be very nice if we could get a lot of testers for this mission, because this release will be the last one that will include graymans name in the authorship. He was very meticulous about testing, so let's not let him down. Jack
  18. Hi all. My new FM is about ready for beta testing and I'm looking for some help. Sign up here and I'll reach out in the next couple of days.
  19. I've spent a lot of time recently submitting patches to fix some bugs and working on a few things that I think would really improve the feel of TDM for 2.11. They are very small changes, and they are meant to polish what's already there without changing or breaking anything for anyone. (Available 2.11 beta 7) Added player "tdm_toggle_sheathe" cvar and "Toggle Sheathe" setting (6232) (thread). Renamed "New Missions" to "Missions List" in main menu (6230). @nbohr1more cleaned up my original patch. Originally, proposed by @snatcher (post). Fixed initial difficulty highlight on Objectives screen (6229). @stgatilov cleaned up my original patch. Fixed Objectives title slightly cut off on low text scale (6234). @stgatilov cleaned up my original patch. Made it possible for the player to change "pm_noclipspeed", so noclip speed can be set (6237). (Available in next beta) Make "tdm_toggle_creep" work like other toggle cvars, and add "Toggle Creep" to the settings menu (6242) (thread). (Not available) Make the inventory parchment background (dds file) separate from the "Missions List" parchment background (dds file). Without the patch, if you change the inventory background, it will also change the main menu. Patch submitted (6241) to decouple the inventory background from the main menu. This is meant for players who want to edit the inventory background (dds file) themselves (e.g. reduce its brightness without affecting the main menu). When you drop a long distance and land in a mantle, damage is shown after the mantle animation is complete. Partial fix submitted (6231). I think I'll need @stgatilov's help on this one. Bikerdude was very kind and provided a test map for this, which helped to expose an issue with my original patch. ("pm_mantle_while_shouldering" cvar available in 2.11 beta 7) It was requested by Bikerdude one year ago to allow mantling while carrying a body. Due to feedback, I've submitted three patches each with a different behavior, starting in August 2022 (5892) (thread) : (Patch v1) Always enable mantling while carrying a body. (Patch v2) Only enable mantling while carrying a body if "pm_mantle_while_shouldering" cvar is set. This is already available in 2.11 beta 7. (Patch v3) Restrict mantling at the waist. There is no agreement about how this should work yet. I've spent over 12 hours of work and testing on (v3) so far, so it would be incredibly discouraging if a final decision is not made between versions (v1), (v2), or (v3) for 2.11. Personally, I think patch (v1) always enable mantling while carry a body is best. This matches Thief 1 & 2 and does not require a cvar. If (v3) is chosen, the rules need to be decided. These are the final issues / bug trackers I have for 2.11. I hope they can make it into the final release of 2.11, because I think it would make TDM feel more polished and give a better first impression for newcomers. And, Thief players would have a better first time.
  20. Woo!! 2.10 Beta "Release Candidate" ( 210-07 ) is out:

    https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/21198-beta-testing-210/

It wont be long now :) ...

  21. Kingsal has graciously converted the highly map-specific animated grass from Arcturus' gorgeous "moonlit castle by a lake with grass plains blowing in the wind" demo map into something that can easily be used by mappers, now also featuring different varieties of grass, different sizes, 2 different wind speeds and LOD stages: I'd like to run a small beta of this asset here for mappers to try it out in their FMs, so feedback on it (i.e. animation, performance impact, looks) before it gets added to core assets would be very appreciated. I won't go too much into the details because the entity & spawnarg tooltips are part of the testing. You can grab the asset here and just drop the .pk4 in the folder of your FM, no need to unpack it. Look for the animated entities in the entity menu. Once the assets are in core you can just delete the .pk4.

  23. I have created an efx version for the next mod release. I have also fixed several minor optical glitches and fixed several defective Visportals. It would be great to get one or two dedicated fans of the mission for testing. Please sign up here before I start a beta thread in the respective subfolder. Thank you.
  24. TDM 2.11 beta 03 is out !

  25. Lets test some bats! You'll need at least version 2.10b5 for testing (Dragofer added "animal_patrol_wait" which is needed properly behaving bats). I've tested the bats in my testmap and now they are ready to be let loose and tested in your maps to see if everything works as it should. Think about free roaming in (very) large spaces and small spaces. Also maybe have them follow paths, I didn't test that, and other things you can think of. The bat can by default be killed but has no ragdoll, instead it has a deathScript that makes the bat disappear with a visual effect. Maybe someone wants to make a ragdoll for it? Set spawnarg "noDamage" to "1" to have invincible bats. The blender files can be downloaded here: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/815315205483397142/936191315845206046/Bat2.0_Blender_Files.rar The files needed to have bats in your map are in the attachment. There are 2 different sized bats and there is also a red test skin for both. I added the original tdm_mage_effects.fx file in the fx folder as an example how it works so you can easely make your own visual effect for the bats deathScript, if you wish. Update 2.01: Fixed aas, size, mins, maxs in the .def. Should work fine now, I hope. Bat2.01.rar
